Wyze Video Doorbell v2 - Released 10/24/2023

What kind of wyze doorbell do you have? Mine isn’t working

I’m not sure whom you’re addressing with your question, but I’m using the Video Doorbell v2 (the subject of this topic). If you could provide more detail about what isn’t working for you, then that might enable other users in this topic to provide better assistance. If the thing that isn’t working is the integration with notifications in Google Home, then that’s being discussed in another topic.

I can confirm that announcements are now functional on Google Home for the WVD v2 for both my front and back doorbells. My son has WVD v1’s and I will have him test on his GH. A little disappointed that it does not work for any other cams. No others have the announcement on/off button in their GH camera settings. At least we have a successful first step.

I have the doorbell pro and there is no such option… anyone else have luck with it?

That seems like a question you might want to post in the Google Home (e.g., Nest Mini) ring with Wyze Video Doorbell topic, since this topic is about the Video Doorbell v2. That might be a better place for your voice to be heard, and you can also submit a vote on the feature.

I see this on my VDBv2 too. I don’t see it on my other doorbell models yet though.

The one concern I have is that I’m afraid it will do the announcements on all Google speakers, including the ones in my kids rooms while they’re sleeping. I’d like a little more control over which speakers get the announcements and when.

That’s valid, and I imagine it’s something that would have to be done on Google’s side. It also seems like an argument for sticking with the aforementioned work-around using other Wyze devices and rules, because when you’re using a Google Home automation to make an announcement, at least there you have the ability to choose which speakers play the message.

It’s not ideal, but it does work…albeit with the unfortunate delay. :man_shrugging:

Um, well… I enabled this and I get a nice “ding dong! someone’s at the front door” from my Google speakers now.

One problem: It’s for EVERY EVENT THE DOORBELL CAMERA SEES, RATHER THAN DOORBELL PRESSES.

Um, did nobody think this through at all?

That’s been described in another topic, as well, but I haven’t yet seen any official response from Wyze since this apparently showed up in the Google Home app. I also haven’t yet been able to get this feature work for me, but there’s some unanswered discussion in that other topic about whether or not a subscription (e.g., Cam Plus, which I don’t use) is required in order for this to work with Google Home/Nest devices, so for now I’m still using a work-around.

Hopefully at some point we can get an official update here as well as an update to the FAQ.

If I install a Video Doorbell V2 with a micro SD card but without Cam Plus, I understand there is a 5 minute cool down on 12 second video clips stored to the cloud. Considering this installation:

  1. Will the V2 record each/every event onto the micro SD card or only following a 5 minute cool down period?
  2. Will the V2 record to the micro SD card constantly or only when an event occurs?
  3. Will the IOS app allow me to view a live image from the V2?

I’m not an iOS user, but I do have a Video Doorbell v2 installed with a microSD card and no Cam Plus subscription.

  1. In my experience, all events are recorded, but subsequent events after the 5-minute cool-down period has begun will not be tagged in the timeline nor will notifications be sent until after the cool-down period has ended. It’s my understanding that the issue affecting doorbell button presses was addressed with a firmware update last year.
  2. Video recording is continuous to a card, whether or not generic sound or motion events are detected/tagged.
  3. This has been my experience with the Android app. I would expect iOS to provide a similar experience for all cameras.

Thank you. Your responses are very helpful.

You’re welcome. I appreciate the feedback.

I finally got around to modifying and fabricating an existing design that meets the needs for my own doorbell:

Congratulations, well done!!

My front porch is elevated, about 16ft wide and maybe 3.5ft in depth. It would be ideal if I had another 5-7⁰ downward angle from my wedge fix. I get the steps and edge of the porch and more overhang than I desire. To compensate, I have an OG at the far end of the porch next to a window pointed towards the front entrance. It gives me a 90% view of the full porch, steps, and walkway up to the front. The camera is mounted as high as possible with a flat power cable through the window to an inside outlet.

There is a little overkill with “Hi, you are currently being recorded” since I have both the doorbell and OG making the announcement, often at the same time depending on AI detection.

What do you think of the new Cam Unlimited multi-cam viewing? Can’t wait to see what Cam Unlimited Pro has to offer and cost.

Thanks! I didn’t know when I got this thing that it was eventually going to lead me down a path of 3D design and fabrication. I guess that was just a bonus, because I enjoy learning.

For the record, I also really like your minimalist approach to the mount. There’s an elegance to how clean it is.

I get that. Even though I wasn’t using professional CAD software, I figured out how to dial in the angle I wanted using the original design as a template. Once I developed that process, the rest was very easy, so further revisions at this point (if I did them) should be relatively straightforward.

Yeah, I’m still getting a little more overhang than I need, but I felt like I had to draw the line somewhere and didn’t want the angle away from the wall to be too extreme.

I considered something similar, but I had already installed a different camera a few years ago that provides a view of most of the front of the house, including the porch. (That camera is actually visible in the “before” and “after” photos I included on the Printables site.) The fun thing about that camera is that its IR blasters come on at night, so if the Video Doorbell v2 is in Night Vision Mode it appears to have a spotlight shining right at it. That got me to try setting Night Vision Mode to Off, which actually turned out to be a better view (and in color!) anyway.

I saw the announcement video yesterday and have so far looked at the revamped Monitoring tab only briefly. The interface isn’t as intuitive as I’d like, and I had to repeat some actions to get the multi-view to fix itself (it was overlapping the live views like a stacking window manager), but I expect that it’s a work in progress and will probably get better over time.

I haven’t subscribed to anything yet—one of the major draws to Wyze for me is the ability to have local storage, so all of my Wyze cameras do continuous recording to microSD cards—but I’m always willing to see what they come up with for features and plans.

I’ve already detected a flaw in the new Cam Unlimited 9that complete regressive testing should have caught before the release. I’ll make a notice of it in the forum. Do better Wyze.

(That’s for Wyze, not for you. Thank you for contributing your findings.)

What does “Activation Date” mean for the Video Doorbell v2?

Discussion in another topic has me wondering, because my Video Doorbell v2 shows an “Activation Date” of “08/29/2023” in the app, even though the product first became available in October (the date noted in the title of this topic), and I installed it on 6 November 2023.

Other cameras show Activation Date data in the app that coincides with the dates I first added those cameras to the app and set them up, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this Doorbell, so now I’m wondering what “Activation Date” actually means….

@Crease - both of my dbv2’s show 10/31/2023 activation dates. I was one of the early buyers but I know I didn’t buy and have installed on this date. I would have to check my purchase history on wyze.com.
