Wyze Video Doorbell v2 - Released 10/24/2023

That would be nice if most of them did this by default, but I saw an article a while back that said they found that while a few did so, most Video doorbell models they checked did not have this capability, and the ones that did offer it, they found that screws and backplates were not enough to prevent thieves from pulling the cameras down or tampering with them. Because of this, they said there were often 3rd party sellers making anti-theft mounts or brackets that can wrap the video doorbell in a metal or plastic housing and attach it to the door edge with a C-clamp or screw for the majority of videodoorbells that didn’t support this by default (very few brands support this by default). Thankfully these improved anti-theft mounts or brackets are available for the most popular brands. There are even third party anti-theft mounts and brackets for most Wyze VideoDoorbells too.

If you wait long enough, they will also make some for the new Wyze Video Doorbell v2 as well (if there isn’t one out there already).

No. if someone buys the Video Doorbell and discovers this is a dealbreaker for them, with few exceptions, they can usually contact support right away to process a return. If someone decides to keep it, then they are agreeing that they are satisfied with their purchase of the product in the way it is currently designed and currently functions. If a person does not feel that way and it is a dealbreaker for their satisfaction, then the person should ASAP contact support about returning the product as soon as they notice that it did not have everything they expected/wanted.

It should also be mentioned that under the rare circumstance that someone steals your video doorbell off of your house, then it should be covered under your renter’s or home-owners insurance. For that reason, I have never bothered with paying the extra cost for anti-theft mounts and brackets and personally prefer that companies don’t raise prices to include the extra materials for it by default, but instead allow the people who want them to pay the extra cost when they feel it is needed for their particular circumstances, and not raise prices for everyone.

I haven’t seen the 3rd party anti-theft mounts for the new doorbell yet, but I am keeping an eye out for them since I know there are a lot of people who would be interested and I like to share such things with people when I see them available. For now, if it is something that is needed, I would wait to buy this or return it if that is a dealbreaker, or do like I do and just rely on home-owners insurance to cover any theft/damage. That’s part of what they are there for.
I’ll post if I see a new anti-theft mount come out, or if someone says they found one that fits this model.

I found this:

You can print the bracket if you have access to a 3D printer.

Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Also, a lot of local libraries will print things for free (up to a certain amount of material), while others will just charge for the filament used.
So it’s possible this is basically a free solution.

Does anyone know why I would be getting this alert from my firewall?

@tle & @carverofchoice, that’s exactly what I plan to do, as I noted in another topic (which I think deserves more votes). I really dig my local library, and I’m lookin’ forward to gettin’ my learn on.

@ElOsoPeligroso, I haven’t, either, but apparently it actually happens or some companies have considered the possibility. I noted in another topic that an Arlo doorbell I installed will actually generate a tamper notification when it’s removed from its mount and disconnected from power, so there’s that, for whatever it’s worth.

Without documentation, I’m skeptical of this claim. The Arlo product I installed requires a tool to cleanly remove the video doorbell from its mount, but if you lose the tool it’s possible to achieve the same thing with a paperclip, so I don’t know how much additional security for the device itself that kind of design actually provides.

Because your camera uploads information to the cloud.

I had to mount my V2 horizontally and that option was mentioned in the installation instructions . I’m disappointed that the image isn’t able to be adjusted 90° to compensate for that. It would be nice if that was made available in a future update.

Why horizontally? Siding overhang accommodations? If so, wood shims from Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc would solve that. I made wedges to accommodate siding from scrape siding I still had on hand. Are you referring to the “Select your doorbell’s positioning: Perpendicular or Parallel.” installation instructions? I don’t think that meant mounting horizontally. Can you clarify.

It is confusing, yes. To me perpendicular to the door is horizontal. Did I miss something by interpreting it that way? My vinyl siding is too narrow for vertical installation and I don’t need the unit badly enough to mess with shims. It would have looked out of place. Easy fix for a Wyze programmer. They already accommodate mounting cameras upside down and rotating the image 180°.
I’ve used Wyze products exclusively since they hit the market. This is my first disappointing product.

Parallel is on the same wall, next to the door. Perpendicular is on a wall perpendicular to the door. In both cases, the doorbell is mounted vertically.

I believe that’s the correct interpretation.

I can understand why someone might interpret the instructions that way. While the installation workflow in the app includes an illustration to demonstrate how Wyze is using those terms in context, the picture chosen to drive home the point could be more clear. I think a few things in the app’s setup guide could be improved, specifically that illustration and a prompt at the time of installation for the user to choose the chime type (as I’ve mentioned elsewhere). Perhaps @WyzeJasonJ could pass that along as feedback to the app team for this product, and maybe Wyze could also add an item to this doorbell’s FAQ about mounting it in a vertical orientation to try to minimize other customers’ future disappointment.

That’s true for some cameras. I’m not sure how difficult it would be to change the orientation by 90º, but that certainly seems like something you could suggest on the Wishlist (or vote for it if someone else has already suggested it). I know that the FAQ for Cam Pan v3 specifically says, “Wyze Cam Pan v3 can be mounted right-side up, upside down, and sideways. But the live stream can only be rotated 180º, not 90º.” I suppose it doesn’t cost you much to ask for that feature for the Video Doorbell v2 in the future, though!

In any case, welcome to the Forum!

Thank you for clarifying that. Perhaps Wyze will add that to their installation guide to make it clear to others in the future.

dnmacdonald,

Thought I would show you my mounts and how minimalist my scrape siding wedge looks. Invisible from the front and little appearance from the side. Could make a shim work practically the same. Parallel mount. Wall in background of side view would be perpendicular. Hope this helps.

That is pretty sweet! Perfect fix.

Thank you. Same fix on the back doorbell.

Same issue here with broken Google integrations. Other than that, no issues other than the chime controller being like 2mm too tall to fit under the cover

Yeah, there’s another entire topic about that (and an opportunity to vote for a #wishlist item). In my personal experience, I can see the live feed in the Google Home app and on a smart display/TV/Chromecast most of the time, but notifications on smart speakers are apparently a no-go without some kind of workaround.

Looks like they finally got voice integration with google home? I stopped checking as I had given up but happened to be in the Home app today and see this

Well, that’s new! Thanks for updating this topic with that! I can confirm that I also see “Voice notifications” in “Device Settings” for the doorbell in the Google Home app on Android.

I haven’t yet tested it (still have the workaround in place), but now I’m eager to see if there’s any official update from @WyzeJimmy or @WyzeJasonJ.
