Is the newer Battery Video Doorbell compatible with the baseplate from the older Video Doorbell Pro, for example if one were replacing a previously-installed VDP with a new BVD? Or do they use different baseplates?
I suspect they’re different. I believe the Video Doorbell Pro (which I don’t have) uses a security screw for attaching to its bracket from the bottom. Battery Video Doorbell (which I do have), uses a locking tab at top that releases it from its back plate with its “Doorbell Detaching Pin” or a paperclip or similar object.
OK, that makes sense. Thanks.
You’re welcome. I imagine the mounting plates probably use different patterns/spacing for the wall screws, too. I know there have been community requests for Wyze to use the same screw mount patterns for all their doorbells, but I think these differ between models. I know when I replaced Video Doorbell v2 with Battery Video Doorbell, the wall screw placement was different.
Not exact)y wanting to make a new topic, but will if recommended.
Can the original wi-fi chime from the db duo be paired with the new battery db video cam? Or does it require the universal wi-fi chime? Considering getting one for my son’s house.
I believe you’re asking about the same Wi-Fi Chime. In other words, when Duo Cam Doorbell originally launched, it included Wi-Fi Chime, which was always described as being compatible with all other Wyze Cams and doorbells. Then users began reporting that they were buying Duo Cam Doorbell without Wi-Fi Chime at places like Home Depot[1][2]. Then last year Wyze finally began selling the Wi-Fi Chime by itself as an accessory, and I think they changed its name by adding “Universal” when it launched, but my understanding is that it’s the same chime. In fact, after Battery Video Doorbell launched last year, there were a number of Forum posts about Wi-Fi Chime unavailability[3][4][5], because apparently it’s so popular that it was out of stock for a long time.
Your son would have three chime options with Battery Video Doorbell, including the use of a compatible in-home chime, if present, and Chime Controller would be recommended for a wired installation with such a built-in chime.
Does that cover it?
Thank you for that detailed post. There is a dbv2 connected to his in-house mechanical chime (courtesy of me installing 1 of my prior dbv2). The problem is the back db at an add-on section of the house. The wiring was destroyed and it doesn’t seem financially feasible to have an electrician rewire. I have tried to trace the wiring short of going into the attic for the wiring going to the chime box. The wiring from the transformer to the chime box can be traced from the basement but not the doorbell wiring. Maybe if I was a few years younger. I’m thinking the battery video db would be a good solution since my duos are hardwired and I have 2 wi-fi chimes just gathering dust.
Your contributions to the forum are literally immeasurable.
You’re welcome! ![]()
That sounds like a potentially fun project if I had a tone and probe. The stuff I’ve had to do with my own doorbell situations has been solvable with a basic multimeter and some test leads, and I haven’t had to try to pull or fish any new wire for that.
I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work. I’ve gotten a few months of battery life out of non-wired Battery Video Doorbell and just remove it and bring it inside to recharge whenever a week or so has passed after a firmware update. (I wait to see if there are problems reported with a production firmware release and then use update time as an opportunity to do a full battery recharge.) It unclips from its mount with a “Doorbell Detaching Pin”, pretty much like Duo Cam Doorbell does.
Must be why I got the demotion. ![]()
If my contributions could be measured, then…I don’t know what. Maybe I’d have to ask a data guy like @carverofchoice. ![]()
Seriously, though, I appreciate the kind words, and I’m glad you find this helpful. ![]()
After a brief analysis of your time as a volunteer, the data is clear: … At the risk of increasing your ego to dangerous levels, I must decline to comment further. ![]()
One other thought: It’s been a while since I’ve tested it, but Alexa will recognize a button press from Battery Video Doorbell, so that’s another way to add a “chime” via routine if your son is already using Echos and wants more than the Wi-Fi Chimes you’re not currently using. If he’s a Wyze subscriber, he can also enable person and package detection voice announcements on Echos for Battery Video Doorbell, and I think that’s one area where Amazon Alexa beats Google Home.
Analysis appreciated! ![]()
Good observation in Alexa doorbell press and echo. It is also an option for the dbv2 and duo. He does have a Wyze subscription and a couple of echo dots. I’ll ask what his preference is, he may choose both. Personally, with all the cam announcements I get, the doorbell press announcement isn’t needed since I already know someone is at the front or back doorbell from Alexa routines I created to compliment person detection.
Thanks for the reminder.
I didn’t even create routines for those. Just enabling Person Detection Announcements in the Alexa app has worked out of the box for me. If you’re doing other custom things with Echo announcements, then I could see how routines could be useful, though. ![]()
I seem to have forgotten my inventory of routines. I am only using the native person detections . I did create a number of routines for smart detections that do not have Alexa options. Confusing myself comes a little too easy lately. ![]()
