WiFi doorbell chime

I received the new video doorbell. I have been waiting to order the wifi chime and it has been out of stock. Does anybody have any idea when that will be in stock? Are there any other wifi chimes that are compatible with the video doorbell? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum, @larryquakkelaar!

I haven’t seen anything about when Wi-Fi Chime will be available again, but I know that’s been a problem. It was out of stock when I checked three weeks ago:

If your “new video doorbell” is the Battery Video Doorbell and you have compatible Wyze Cams, then you can use those as accessory chimes. I’m also using both Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers to receive person detections (with a subscription) from my Battery Video Doorbell, so potentially that’s another option for you for now. (My actual doorbell ring from a button press comes from Cams used as accessory chimes and from the home’s built-in mechanical chime because I have my doorbell wired.)

In case you haven’t already done so, please take advantage of the “Notify me when back in stock!” feature and be prepared to act quickly. There are thousands of us waiting for restock of this product and the supply won’t last very long.

Wyze Universal Wi-Fi Chime

Yeah, that’s one of the reasons I quoted one of my previous posts, because I knew I’d mentioned that. Thanks for the additional context and urgency!:+1:

Thanks for your quick response. I also have the new battery video doorbell wired to the mechanical doorbell. It works but when I was getting ready for bed and the house was quiet I heard a slight buzzing noise coming from the mechanical doorbell. Fearing for potential fire I disconnected and bypassed the mechanical doorbell.
All my cameras were all ordered and received back in 2018 and doesn’t have the capacity to receive any signals from the video doorbell. Just wondering if there’s a way to wire a digital bell or should I order a new Wyze camera that is compatible to receive a signal from the video doorbell?

Thanks for your response. I did clicked on to notify me when it’s back in stock. I also feared that when it comes back in stock it will be gone quickly. I wished that Wyze should have included as an option to order when I bought the video doorbell wired.

That’s good information! My understanding is what you’re experiencing is normal when you don’t have Chime Controller installed. (Did you install that?) If you want to use your existing mechanical chime, then I’d order a Chime Controller and install it per the instructions in the Video Doorbell v2 section of the Help Center. I understand the caution, and I don’t blame you for that at all, but I think the risk of fire is low and what you were hearing is the same sort of humming and buzzing that even Duo Cam Doorbell users have repeatedly reported when they’ve wired their doorbells without Chime Controller.

My standard disclaimer: :warning::high_voltage:  I am not an electrician.  :high_voltage::warning:

I think Wyze would probably recommend installing Chime Controller even with a compatible digital doorbell, but I don’t have experience with those. You could also see what happens with their Black Friday sales. Last year Amazon had Cam OGs (which can be used with the “Camera as Chime” feature) on sale for <US$10, so I picked up an extra even though I didn’t need it (and I’ve actually found a use for it a few times). You could watch for something like that if you want a cheap double-duty solution. Since you’re already trying to use your home’s mechanical chime for the doorbell, though, I’d recommend going ahead with the Chime Controller if you haven’t already done that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll order the chime controller and will also look for any sells.

It’s very much appreciated

You’re welcome! :+1:

Chime Controller installation should be pretty straightforward, especially if your system was wired correctly before you started. If you run into any problems, please feel free to post more questions. I’ve done a lot of troubleshooting with my own Video Doorbell v2 before trying the newer Battery Video Doorbell (they both wire in the same), and I like working on doorbell issues.

Thanks I will keep you updated.

It is my understanding that the Chime Controller will not work with the original video doorbell (Version 1). They state it only works with Version 2 which is why I’m trying to get additional chimes.

I believe that’s correct about the original Video Doorbell v1, and I haven’t seen anyone suggest otherwise. Chime Controller originally shipped with Video Doorbell v2 in order to allow that device to reliably actuate a home’s built-in chime, and it also allows Duo Cam Doorbell and Battery Video Doorbell to do the same.

mechanical doorbell is not working after I hooked up the chime controller. I submitted before and after pictures. The doorbell does show that it’s receiving power on the app. Should I switch the red and white wires?

Here’s the pic that shows the hookup but it’s not working.

Thanks for sharing the photos! Those are excellent, and that’s really helpful. :+1:

What were you using for a doorbell button prior to installing Battery Video Doorbell? Was that working as expected?

Which red and white wires are you asking about: the wires coming into your chime or the wires from Chime Controller?

I think you have Chime Controller connected correctly, but I wonder if the wires coming into your chime were connected correctly before you started. It’s possible that the two red wires coming in were connected to the wrong terminals previously. That’s what turned out to be my problem before I did some testing and figured out that the wires going to my chime’s FRONT and TRANS terminals were flipped. If you have a multimeter, then testing that and figuring out what’s happening in your system (which red and white wire pair is coming from your transformer and which pair is coming from your doorbell button location) is pretty straightforward. If you don’t have that or don’t want to test, then you could try something like this (looking at your second photo):

  1. Remove the orange wire nut from the Chime Controller’s black wire and the one red house wire from the red and white pair on the right.
  2. Remove the red house wire from the TRANS terminal and use the orange wire nut to connect this to the black wire.
  3. Connect the remaining free red wire (the one you disconnected from Chime Controller’s black wire in Step 1) to the TRANS terminal with the Chime Controller’s red wire.

You could then check the app to see if the Battery Video Doorbell shows that it’s connected to wired power and see what happens if you press the doorbell button. You may also want to move the grey/white wire nut away from the striker just to make sure it’s not interfering with that.

I think this might solve the problem, but, personally, I’d rather know by testing the circuit so that I’m confident about what’s at the end of each of the red and white wire pairs coming into the chime box. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions. I tested the wiring and it’s correct. I did as you suggested with switching the wiring around. The video doorbell showed that it was receiving power but when I tried the doorbell the mechanical chime didn’t work.

I contacted Wyze for suggestions and they admitted the controller was most likely faulty. They refunded me the cost of the controller.

I’ll just wait for the wireless chime to come back in stock. I do have the doorbell to ring on my phone. It’s just too bad that it can’t ring on both of my phone and my wife’s phone. Wyze says it only will ring on the account holder’s phone.

Thanks again for responding and offering those suggestions. It’s very much appreciated.

I wonder how they arrived at that conclusion. I don’t know enough about electronics—and, specifically, how Chime Controller operates—to know how to test something like that (or what tests to attempt) in order to determine whether or not a Chime Controller is faulty, but now I’m curious about that. In any case, I’m glad they took care of you with a refund.

I’m also still curious about answers to the other questions I asked, but I understand if you’d rather move on instead of spending more time troubleshooting this.

I don’t think that’s accurate, and I don’t know why Wyze would tell you that. I have Virtual Calls enabled ( Settings âžś Virtual Calls âžś Virtual Calls ) on a Battery Video Doorbell, and I have shared the device ( Settings âžś Sharing) with another Wyze user who has a separate account. Both phones ring when the doorbell button is pressed. We both happen to be Android users, but the OS shouldn’t really matter. Even with regular notifications (not Virtual Calls) enabled on the Wyze device owner’s account, a shared access user should receive those notifications, as there’s currently no way for such a user to control individual Wyze device notifications within the app.

How are you trying to get the doorbell to ring on your wife’s phone? You should be able to do this in either of two ways:

  1. Share the device as described above.
  2. Sign into the Wyze app on your wife’s phone with your own Wyze account credentials. This would give her full control and would be like if you used your own second phone or tablet to sign into your account. Some users prefer not to do this for various reasons (non-techy spouse, etc.), but many couples apparently share credentials this way so that each can have full access to cameras, etc.

You’re welcome. I enjoy trying to help and wish I had better answers for you. I also wish I could increase the available stock of the Wi-Fi Chime, because that seems like a really popular and in-demand item.

Before I sent the controller back I hooked it up again as directed. I went to settings to Chime and clicked on My built-in house chime and assigned it to mechanical. Believe it or not it worked!!! Thank you for all your assistance. It’s all appreciated.

Oh, right on! I’m glad that finally worked, and I appreciate your taking the time to post an update! :+1:

Yes. As of 2/20/2026. The Chime controller is still out of stock. We needing one yesterday. There are none to be found @ Walmart, Best buy, New Egg, Home Depot, etc. Maybe I need to look into RoKu or something else.
