Battery Video Doorbell- feel free to CHIME in

The new Bat Vid Drbell offers for Chime the choice of Wifi Chime or House Chime or Camera as Chime. Not sure our house chime even works. I only see offered a Controller for house chime. It lists some of my many Wyze cameras but the only doorbell notice is out of my Amazon Alexa device and that is only intermittent. So, since we cannot really hear the Bat Vid Drbell itself as it outside - it’s not really a doorbell, just a camera. I’ve rebooted all, choosen all the cameras its offers, and now search for solutions. If it actually worked through my Wyze cameras that would be fine. If they offered some external Chime for me to sync up to, I’d buy that.

I use the Wyze WiFi chime, and have it plugged near my study desk. I have it set up, too, to sound if it detects a person even before the doorbell button is pressed.

Moreover, it conveniently functions as a mail carrier sensor.

I’m not using Wi-Fi Chime, but that would certainly be an option if you wanted to buy that and add it to your system. I have used the “Cameras as chimes” feature (which I think they should expand and rename) with compatible Cams, and that works pretty well for having those do double duty as accessory chimes.

If you learn that your house chime does work, then you can install Chime Controller and use that, but doing so requires you to power your Battery Video Doorbell with your home’s low-voltage AC via an appropriate transformer that’s also connected to the chime. That’s what I’ve been using for the main doorbell sound, and it works as expected.

I also have this integrated into Amazon Alexa, and doing that has been pretty good about letting me know both when someone approaches the porch and when a package shows up, even if no one presses the doorbell button.

Now I’m curious about some things:

  1. Which Wyze Cams have you attempted to use as accessory chimes?
  2. What kind of house chime do you have? This Help Center article talks about chime compatibility for Video Doorbell v2, but it should also be applicable to Battery Video Doorbell since they’re both capable of using the same Chime Controller.
  3. How are you currently powering your Battery Video Doorbell?

Thanks so much for your well composed reply.

I’ve multiple OG and v4 cameras to choose from in the doorbells offering to chime output, as well as a Pan v3. I’ve selected in different ways, looked in settings, etc.. I’ve not had this new Battery Video Doorbell signal out to any camera. It has intermittently responded out of nearest Amazon Alexa device.

I note that the WiFi Chime they offer here is Out of Stock - sooo, likely order one somewhere down the road. I have now set an Alexa routine to respond from all Alexa Echo’s when the doorbell is pushed. So I’ve solution’s but remain confused on why it does not chime out into the Wyze camera’s.

It is powered for the cam/doorbell but the houses old doorbell would be greater expense.

I’m not sure what you mean by this:

Does this mean that you’re powering the Battery Video Doorbell with your typical doorbell button wiring (transformer from house current to low-voltage AC)? If so, then what did you have in place there before installing Battery Video Doorbell, and how did you know if someone was pressing the button? I’m trying to better understand your current situation to think of what some options might be.

Yeah, when I look it up in Wyze Shop and on Amazon, it shows out of stock both places. At least on the Wyze site you have the option of that “Notify me when back in stock!” button, so that’s something while you wait.

Cam OG and Cam Pan v3 should work, and that’s what I’ve used. Cam v4 hasn’t yet been made an option for that feature, though other Forum users have requested it, and I’m on board with that. Personally, I think all Wyze doorbell models should receive firmware updates to allow them to act as chimes—if the doorbell can make a “ding-dong” sound at the device when you press the button, then it should be able to receive a signal and make that same sound if someone presses the button on another connected doorbell—and that’s what I noted in one of my links above. I also think that all of their outdoor-specific Cams (at least those that are wired and not battery powered) should have this feature, because I imagine lots of people have things like Bulb Cams or Cam Floodlights in their backyards and might want to be able to hear a doorbell sound if they’re behind the house but someone shows up at the front and rings the doorbell.

That’s a whole other thing, though.

Are you doing that with just the Person Detection Announcements and/or the Package Detection Announcements in the Alexa settings for the device, or are you using Doorbell Press Notifications, or something else? Another thing I’ve done is create a Routine in the Alexa app so that an Echo device will play multiple sounds whenever Battery Video Doorbell’s button is pressed. That would be another way to essentially have a custom chime now while you’re waiting on Wi-Fi Chime to become available, and that’s something I’d be likely to try if you’re not already doing that.

I also wonder if your Battery Video Doorbell has consistent Wi-Fi connectivity and if that has anything to do with the intermittent response you’ve been seeing frome your Alexa device so far.

You’re welcome! I appreciate the feedback. :+1:

Wyze is waiting for the China tariff to get lower a little.
