How do I get the Cam V4 to work as a chime with the Battery Video Doorbell

This new Battery Video Doorbell does not recognize any of my Wyze V4 cams as they are not listed in the app, only my V3 Cams are. I went to the product page for the doorbell and it has a pic of the V4 cam as one you can use as a chime. I then went and asked the support bot and it even said the Wyze Cam V4 works as a chime with the Wyze Battery Video doorbell (I took a screen shot of what it said and will post it below).

I have a V4 in my living room looking directly at the inside of my front door and it is the obvious choice to connect the camera to it, but it isn’t working for some reason. I bought this video doorbell primarily because I don’t like what Ring has done recently and I wanted it to work with the Wyze Lock Bolt (apparently is does not no matter what the internet says.

So how do I use my V4 camera to use as a chime with my Battery Video Doorbell?

The screenshot of what the Wyze support bot told me:

Are the v4 cams listed otherwise, and just not selectable as a chime?

Do you have the latest 3.x app and the latest firmware on everything?

I almost wonder if the latest firmware might have broken this interface, but those security changes should only impact the video stream, not basic communications. Who knows though.

EDIT - NVM I assumed the v4 was compatible based on your comments, but @crease actually did the research instead of assuming like me

You don’t, at least as far as I’m aware at this time. I think the chatbot is giving inaccurate information (again).

I don’t know where the bot got its answer. I gave it the same prompt that you show in your screenshot and got a different answer from the bot. It still said that Cam v4 is compatible as a chime but also gave an “if it appears as compatible” caveat in the instructions:

Select your Wyze Cam v4 (if it appears as compatible) and tap Save.

It also gave me 5 reference articles (in contrast to the 4 your screenshot shows), but none of those states that Cam v4 can be used as a chime. I believe this article is currently the most accurate: “Can I use a Wyze Cam as a chime for Wyze Battery Video Doorbell?”

I wonder if you’re referring to this image:

If that’s the case, then I agree that it shows Cam v4 (and Cam Pan v4, which also is not a compatible chime choice), but I believe that it’s an inartful reworking of this image from Universal Wi-Fi Chime’s product page:

I think it’s intended to show that Battery Video Doorbell, Cam v4, and Cam Pan v4 can all be used to trigger Wi-Fi Chime, but I understand how showing those other Cams in that context could be misinterpreted, so I think the image as it’s currently presented is problematic.

If you’re referring to something else, then I think that should be brought to Wyze’s attention.

Incidentally, I didn’t grab a screenshot of my initial chat, but when I tried again with the same prompt, the bot gave me a different answer:

That’s frustrating.

If you search the Wishlist, I believe there’s an existing request to add other Wyze Cams as compatible chimes for video doorbells.

I just replaced my indoor wyze cam pan v4 with wyze duo cam pan and my wireless door bell doesn’t have duo can pan as chime, I hope wyze work on adding it as chime too.

This is definitely an incorrect answer the bot gave you and I have informed the team. I will let them know about the images being a bit misleading also.

I talked directly to support today and the guy said the chatbot was giving incorrect info. I told him someone needs to have a serious chat with that chatbot..lol.

Either way I started the return on that doorbell and ordered a Video Doorbell V2, which is also another story. I first ordered a new V2 because it said delivery by this Saturday, but when I got up in the morning the estimated delivery date was Monday. If I would’ve known that I would’ve went with the refurbished one. I then went and ordered the refurbished one and contacted support today and asked if he could cancel that first order (this is the chat I told him about your chatbot giving incorrect info). He was able to cancel it.

Even though I started the return for the battery doorbell, I am debating on keeping it (but I would need a chime for it) to use on my back door. I was going to put my old ring doorbell cam there but I do want to get rid of Ring entirely because of them allowing the government access.

I noticed recently that the Universal Wi-Fi Chime is back in stock, or at least that’s what Wyze Shop indicates as of the time of this writing. If you’re planning to install Video Doorbell v2, then that could also make use of the Wi-Fi Chime, and both doorbells are capable of actuating a home’s compatible built-in chime when properly wired (like if you have a mechanical chime with TRANS, FRONT, and REAR terminals, for example). If you have the wiring in place for your rear doorbell location and are considering wiring Battery Video Doorbell to that, then you may want to pick up a second Chime Controller to use in that installation; Video Doorbell v2 should include a Chime Controller.

The video Doorbell V2 does come with a chime controller and that should be here this Tuesday. I did order a chime controller from Amazon for the Battery Video Doorbell.

One thing I’ve noticed is that just about every doorbell cam they have has a feature unique to that cam. The Battery Video Doorbell has a nice wide angle but the V2 has a higher resolution, and the Pro can connect to the Wyze Lock Bolt. It would be awesome if the V2 could connect to my Wyze Lock Bolt so I can let my family in when I am not home. My nieces have keys but they loose them all the time….

There are definitely differences in the models. So far I’ve used only Video Doorbell v2 and Battery Video Doorbell. I do like that Battery Video Doorbell shows more of my porch surface without requiring a wedge mount, but it does so at the expense of a pronounced fisheye effect, so I generally prefer the view from Video Doorbell v2 and may switch back to that on my front porch.

There’s an existing Wishlist request for that:
