Hey Wyze friends!
Did you miss the recent email? No worries — here’s the news! We just announced some awesome new accessories that I know some of you have been waiting for, so these new add-ons are worth checking out.
(And if you didn’t get the email, you might want to double-check your Wyze email preferences!)
WARNING for Anyone Considering Wyze Products!
I used to be a huge Wyze supporter — one of their early fans. But after a terrible experience with their most expensive product, I can no longer recommend them.
When the device failed, their own diagnostics confirmed it was defective. But instead of helping, customer support basically said, “Too bad, nothing we can do.” No refund, no replacement — just a brick and a shrug.
Loyalty meant nothing to them. If you’re on the fence, do yourself a favor and read the reviews first: Trustpilot Reviews – Wyze
Terrible customer service. Don’t waste your time or money.
Can you clarify? If you weren’t out of warranty and should have gotten a warranty replacement, I can have someone look into it for you. It sounds like you were out of warranty though.
99% of companies I’ve ever dealt with will not refund or replace something that is already out of warranty. I have cameras and IoT devices with dozens of companies and many have gone bad after the warranty expires and basically none of them have ever agreed to refund me or replace my electronics if the warranty is expired already, even if it is proven to be related to a defect or firmware failure or something, and it’s rare to have any that do more than 1 year warranty, though some will do 2-3 depending on the thing in question and the extra cost they add onto it for the added years. Of course it sucks when that happens, I agree with that, but I don’t necessarily think a company is horrible for not replacing something if a warranty is expired. Is there some way they did something different than that that makes them worse than the other companies who do the same thing for expired warranties? Did they do something more than refuse to refund something not under warranty? If so, I’d like to pass on some feedback to employees I know.
I have a couple of the closeup lenses on order to play with. I have a couple instances where the minimum focus distance is an issue for me. Will be trying them on a couple different camera models.
Yea. Here is an example. The camera in this case is an OG-Tele (we’ll see if it works on that). The camera is about 4 feet from the meters. The meters are readable, but not clear and the P-Touch labels are almost not readable (although I know what they say - I put them there).
I know that the compatibility is listed for the Close-up Lens on its product page, and it looks like it’s using a silicone band (or something similar) to wrap around the camera’s body and keep it in place. This leads me to some questions:
Since something like Cam v4 (which is listed as compatible with Close-up Lens) and Cam OG (which is not listed as compatible) are both apparently compatible with Window Mount v2, then it seems like Close-up Lens might actually fit Cam OG, right?
Although the arm connecting the cubes of Cam Pan v3 would prohibit the kind of Close-up Lens mounting illustrated on the product page, would the accessory fit over the Cam Pan v3’s lens if rotated 90° and mounted sideways?
Is there something specific to the optics or built-in lenses of compatible cameras that causes them to be compatible and other cameras to be incompatible?
I’m curious and imagine others are, as well, particularly if, for example, @K6CCC is going to try it on a Cam OG Telephoto.
How about a Hummingbird Feeder with a Camera that has a built in close up lens and AI geared to detecting Hummingbirds. Bought one from Amazon (Pesky Pets) but couldn’t get Camera to work. Would really like to keep all my cameras with Wyze, but need one to fill this gap.
I really like the solution @lmester put together. I imagine a similar setup could use a regular hummingbird feeder and the Close-up Lens on a Wyze Cam. That doesn’t take care of the AI piece, but apparently Wyze is working on that.
Given the frequency that Wyze pushes firmware updates, I think they should be more supportive when they brick your out of warranty device that was working just fine before you pushed the “update” button.
I no longer recommend Wyze to friends for this reason.
I agree. We’ve changed all but four of our 15 cameras out to Reolink which work so much better than the Wyze, are dependable, and with which you can view surveillance on a regular computer. The little screen on a cell phone doesn’t work as well . One could buy an ipad, but I don’t need the extra expense. Now for no reason the four V2 cameras that are left all have a code 3005, which means I need to travel 600 miles to reset the router. The Reolink cameras connected to the same router all are working flawlessly
