The Return of Fix-It Friday is Coming

Fix-It Friday is Coming Back!

Some of you have been around long enough to remember our first go at Fix-It Friday. It worked well for a while, but as the Community Team became smaller, the original process was no longer scalable.

I know many of you have wanted to see Fix-It Friday return, and I’ve always felt it was a great way to surface issues that may not already be on our radar. So, starting in September, we’re bringing it back with a few changes to make the process more manageable and effective.

How Fix-It Friday Will Work

On the first Friday of each month, we’ll post in each of our communities asking you to share the bugs you’re experiencing.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Please submit only one issue per post or comment. You’re welcome to submit multiple issues, but each should be posted separately.

• If someone has already reported the issue you’re experiencing, please vote for their submission instead of posting it again. Depending on the community, this may mean liking or upvoting it.

• Please submit bugs only. Feature requests should continue to be submitted through the Wishlist.

Keeping each issue separate and voting for existing submissions will help us identify the issues affecting the most people and speed up the sorting process.

How We’ll Choose Issues

This is one of the biggest changes from the original Fix-It Friday.

Previously, we selected the top issue from each individual community. This time, we’ll combine the votes across all participating communities to identify the issues receiving the most support overall.

The most-voted issue will not necessarily be the one we select. If a highly voted issue is something the team is already actively investigating or working on, we may skip it and select another issue that isn’t currently on our radar. However, I’ll still let you know that we’re working on the highly voted issue and provide a status update when possible.

The goal is to use your votes to help us uncover and prioritize issues that we may not already be aware of.

September Fix-It Friday Schedule

September 4 – We’ll post the first request for bugs, and voting will begin.

September 8 – We’ll review the submissions, select the bugs we’re going to focus on, and begin the internal process.

September 11 – First update. We’ll let you know which bugs were selected and share any early progress.

September 18 – Second update with the latest progress.

September 25 – Third update with any additional progress.

If a selected issue isn’t resolved by the end of the month, we’ll carry it over rather than starting from scratch. Then, on October 2, we’ll begin the Fix-It Friday process again and collect a new round of community submissions.

Please bear with me over the first few months as we refine and improve the process based on what works and what doesn’t. I’m excited to bring Fix-It Friday back and give the community another way to help us identify and address the issues that matter most to you.

While we wait for that official fix it Friday post to launch in September, anyone care to share tangible issues that they would like to make sure are included then or common issues they have been seeing in the forum? What would be worth convincing other people to vote for to have be a priority to fix?

Things that come to mind that I think some people have been talking about recently:

  • Air purifier still goes offline sometimes or stops tracking the aqi.
  • Reports of the sprinkler controller not skipping schedules when it should, such as when there has been rain or will be rain.
  • I’m going to have to check and see if an old old issue is still relevant. I know a long time ago in fix it Friday, one of my friends reported that sometimes the actual bulb IP address did not always match what the app thought the IP address was and there was some kind of firmware bug, and that this sometimes caused the bulb to not function locally, such as with the home assistant integration which can control the bulbs locally but wasn’t able to win the server. IP address had the wrong IP address from what the router had. I haven’t checked if this is still an issue, but if it is, I would consider bringing that up again because I really like being able to control my bulbs locally on home assistant, and a mismatching IP address between the server and the router is an issue or bug.
  • V3 Pro cameras have been malfunctioning with Alexa automation triggers ever since Wyze did a firmware update with them last year. I used to be able to have person detection as a trigger in Alexa with my V3 pros, and then Wyze did a firmware update that broke that and ever since then no person detection triggers have worked with Alexa automations. That’s definitely a bug. They should fix that I’m pretty certain was caused by their firmware update, and not by Alexa. This is actually probably my number one biggest annoyance right now that I will definitely be voting for Because it’s impeding my advanced automations.
  • My Wi-Fi enabled scales recently sometimes refuse to record anything besides weight unless I open the app, and say it’s because I have other profiles for my wife and kids on it, But I never had this issue in the past. So I’m curious if anybody else has had this lately.
  • V4s firmware updates are only going through if I open up the camera individually and tell it to update. If I try to do it from the account tab in firmware update card, it fails to update.

What do the rest of you have as worth mentioning when fix it Friday launches again?

I hope these kinds of status updates—for issues that Wyze has reported to be actively investigating, and especially for issues where Wyze itself has initiated Forum topics—will include information that follows up on topics like these:

Based on some other topics and posts in recent months, I imagine many within the community would also like to see an official update about this, which still seems to be an open question:

Thank you for posting this announcement and working to bring this back to the community! :+1:

A couple more issues:

I have a BR30 in a Bulb group with color bulbs that stopped responding the automation engine and stopped responding to controls from the latest Wyze app.
However, if I make API calls to it through Home Assistant, it will respond to all controls, even when the bulb shows as offline in the Wyze app. That is really weird. So far this might be an isolated incident since I haven’t heard others claim the same, but it’s weird that Home Assistant can control it when the Wyze app cannot, indicating it might be an issue on the Wyze end somewhere since the bulb IS functioning.

If this issue isn’t resolved by 9/4/26, we’ll probably want it to be listed in FiF too:

It sounds like Cam Plus Lite is glitching out on Notifications not working correctly. If a user removes the camera from CPLite, notificiations start working correctly again. A server glitch. But an employee is already taking logs on Reddit, so it might be resolved before FiF.

Another one is this issue:

As far as I know, every other camera supports sensor-triggered event uploads except for the cams from the newest supplier. This implies it being a bug/oversight that the camera is not compliant with the ecosystem intent of all cameras functioning with the standard automations all others support, so I think there is a good case to make this qualifies for FiF instead of the wishlist.

I am unable to replicate this with Android app v3.20.0.941. I have a group that has 1 Bulb Color BR30, 6 Bulb Colors, and 2 Light Strips. I don’t use Home Assistant, but all the lights respond as expected with regular app controls and a test Wyze Automation.

Very good. Been looking forward to the return. :+1:

I also am looking forward to the return of “Fix-it Friday”. I like the idea of getting the Air Purifier working correctly. This is a good product that could be easily made great. Replacement filters are pretty reasonable and available now, but the aggravation of the bimonthly reset is painful.

Another one I might add:

I like having the scale stats on the tile too.

I do NOT like the scale taking up the space equivalent to 4 tiles on the favorites screen. If they could use a smaller sized font for the stats and squeeze them into one tile, it would be great.

By the way, the new Scale Favorites Tile is showing my most current weight from this a.m.

It shows Weight and BMI in one dual tile on the left, and Body Fat% and Muscle Mass% on the right.

Android app version 3.21.1(962) and Wyze Scale model WHSCL1

Completely fair take. Even 2 tiles would be better than 4 for most people 4 is pretty big.

Mine might be showing different data because I have so many scales. I have every scale Wyze has ever made except the Scale S. It maybe it only updates if you did the measurement with the app open through Bluetooth. IDK. But I can see the weight from every other scale in any scales app page and when I export the data, all scales have all data in the same sheet. So it should be working the same way for this… Just show the latest measurement.

I’m glad to hear yours is showing the updated measurement. Makes me wonder what the difference is.

I should probably add some of these issues to the official fix it Friday thread, but I was curious to see how it goes without my intervention since I historically over-dominated the F.I.F. events. But I think the problem is that people don’t realize it’s restarted yet.

Mine is probably the oldest scale (WHSCL1), and it is bluetooth only NOT Wi-Fi. This is probably the best Wyze product I have owned. The Air Purifier was next till they broke it with that last firmware update. Don’t get me wrong, I have V2s, V3s, V3 Pros, Doorbells, Battery Cam Pro, V4 cameras, door locks, sensors, vacuum, and like them too, but I always sweat Firmware and App updates, and I should not have to. I have a block on Wyze app updates from the Google Playstore. I have to acknowledge that I really want to perform a Wyze update, and I do all firmware updates one at a time.

That was the first Wyze product I bought which led me to getting other stuff from them. I loved it. It is one of the best scales IMO.
