Just installed my first Solar Cam Pan 2k in place of an Outdoor Cam v2 whose battery had gone wonky.
I had the predecessor snapping sensor video clips whenever my backdoor opened. I was surprised to see the Solar Cam Pan isn’t even in the list of cameras within the app that can capture them.
Is this by design or an oversight?
If you’re talking about the home monitoring system and the sense hub, no it is not listed as a compatible camera for that.
It strikes me as not ideal, but many of their services and products list compatible devices. For example the garage door controller only works with the Camv3. Motion sensor and bulb controller only work with certain stuff. I’m guessing that since various cams use different protocols and compression methods, updating every service and device to work with every other service and device is a big undertaking. I have no idea if they have plans to support that cam or not, but best to check the compatibility lists before committing to something.
Patnah, I appreciate you being a dispassionnate voice of reason in this capacity. As a 30+ year IT professional, I’m well-versed in the arts of compatibility verification during the course of decision-making and preceding wallet opening. All of that said, even the most diligent of us are sometimes burned. 
Capturing Wyze Sense video clips is such an ubiquitous feature that it didn’t occur to me a compatibility check was warranted. Any part of our cam fleets should be able to participate in Wyze Sense integration… integration being one of their key selling points. 
Truthfully, this particular cam falls under “nice to have,” but lack of feature isn’t a deal-breaker rn. I’d wager that since this new flavor of Solar Cam Pan 2k is so new, we’re most likely awaiting an app update before the model can participate. I doubt that the technical barriers you’ve speculated are at issue, but they should resolve them if so. Lesser models support sensor-triggered clips. Solar Cam Pan 2k is a flagship outdoor product. Excluding it would be a gaffe.
Also, I wasn’t lobbing “kinda dumb” at you personally in my TommyBoy graphic above. It was purely a reaction to the realization that your initial response was correct.

It has been out for almost a year, so isn’t exactly that new. But who knows, maybe it will be added some day.
The new revision just includes updated instructions warning you not to use the wood screws on the camera itself as people were screwing into the battery.
Yeah, I had only skimmed the recall notice from back in June. It looks like the instructions were at issue more than the cam itself. I’d initially read it as a product revision. Still, it needs to be included for sensor triggered captures.
I haven’t been on these forums for about a year, but when I see things like cams excluded from core features like this, it makes me wonder if there’s a new Wyze Sense in the works and further development of the current product isn’t worth their investment.
Any insight into this issue, @Mavens ?
I’ve never encountered a cam that couldn’t capture contact sensor clips.
Will there be a widening gap of such models and is there any background as to why wyze sense can’t trigger solar cam pan 2k clips?
Interesting. I never really considered this. My first thought was that it might have something to do with being a battery camera that goes into a sleep/suspended status, buy that shouldn’t make a difference since it can receive a push to wake up when we Livestream it, which means it could receive a push to wake up and record a cloud event clip. 
I now think the answer is most likely that it’s an oversight due to this camera coming from a new partnership/supplier instead of one of the the other 2 they’ve had established for years before now. I haven’t done an in-depth analysis on the differences with the devices from this new supplier, but the previous 2 involved different OS’s, different SDK/different authentication, and different defaults that required manually adding certain features for ecosystem parity.
The question I is whether they would consider this a feature request or an unintended bug. I can see arguments both ways.
That’s my leading hypothesis at the moment though. I could definitely see an employee arguing that it counts as a feature request though, but it could be one that they decide to quickly add support for given that most other cameras support it.
Does anybody know if any of the other battery cans work with this? Like the WCOs or the BCPros? I’ve only tried with wired cams a long time ago.

I currently have my WCO v2 selected for sensor videos and have had it configured that way for some time (years). That’s why I was surprised the new SCP2k wasn’t available in the sensor video selection list.
That’s excellent. This adds credence to us being able to claim it’s a bug, not a feature request. If it turned out that no Battery cams supported it, we might be out of luck, but if these are basically the only cameras that don’t support it, then we can argue it’s an oversight/bug. That’s what I was hoping to hear.

Sensor-triggered cams & clips seem like key integration selling points and should be consistent across the board (IMO) barring technical limitations.
