The problem with this is that in some cases, nothing can be shown in the app during an outage because the server and connection to the app isn’t working right, so it often can’t update to do this. In the past, they tried sending out a push notification to everyone to tell them there was an outage issue, but sending a message to millions of accounts clogged up the system even more and extended the outage as the system was already trying to catch up from all the notifications it was supposed to send when things weren’t working right and adding millions more notifications caused more issues.
Something that some people do is join their Discord Server and then tell it to mute the whole server except for the “Service-Advisory” channel and then they can get a notification to pop up any time Wyze posts anything about a service advisory.
Additionally, a person can always check the Service Advisory site, or have Down Detector send a notification. There are also apps and sites that will send a notification any time any website changes in some way, and you can tell it to track either the Wyze service advisory site or Downdetector for Wyze and get a notification that way.
I’m sure there are better ways to handle it. I’m just trying to provide options for the way things currently are, not saying there aren’t better options that could be done.
(maybe a text or email we could opt in or out of would be a good option)
Wyze this is happening way to often now…what’s your excuse this time? The unreliability of your services is really starting to make me question my decision to buy your products and services…never again…as soon as I am able to I will go elsewhere with my money. Wouldn’t recommend you to my worst enemies
This has to be without a doubt the worst rip off business on earth. These cameras are tinker toys and should never be installed thinking you can rely on any security. This is an embarrassment that you should be ashamed of,but instead they laugh all the way to the bank.
At ~17:30 PDT any plug or camera that I had unplugged (off power) was unable to connect to Wyze servers. That is still the case at 19:35 PDT. Lots of flashing blue LEDs.
About half of my cameras have been down for a while now. What I don’t understand is why some work and some don’t, even the same model.
The other thing is why is the firmware setup so that it need to phone home to Wyze just to view on a local network? I get that Cam Plus, person detection and such needs the servers, but for just for local viewing, it shouldn’t need internet access.
It must be possible if half my cameras stayed online through this outage.
In our case the outside cameras are important to see who is coming , especially for drop off and pickup with our family daycare.
This is why people keep asking Wyze to support RTSP. Currently the video streams will stay local, but Wyze requires authentication with the server in order to make it more secure. To me, if the stream can only be accessed locally on my passworded network anyway, then it is adequately secure for my purposes. I’d like to have the option for this. They recently said they were having discussions about local solutions, so maybe we’ll get something.
Its 7:51pm in California. My wired cams went offline about an hour ago. They came back on after i restarted my wifi but then my wireless cams went offline and they’re still off.
I found Wyze and recommended it to all my friends and family. Then I got the hub and some sensors and fell in love. Until I tried to do anything useful with any of it and found out none of it would ever work the way I expected to. Then the outages, having to reset cameras, and the security breach where they didn’t post anything for hours. Now today, and I needed to view my cameras while I was away and got nothing. Currently my security floodlight (which is very important since I live in a dark rural area) is pulsing on and off every 10 seconds. Really guys, can you not just program a fail safe for the light to be ON? Or better yet, why does a light with a motion sensor on it not just work like a dumb one does and turn on when it detects motion and off some time after motion has stopped???
I’m done with you, Wyze. I’ve given you so many chances, and things just continue to get worse. I’ll start looking into new hardware and use these as their true purpose - tinker toys. I don’t care what the excuse is today, this is unacceptable.
Yeah, i used to love wyze when i first got a few of thier products. Fast forward… 5 warranty issues so far, 2 security issues (one that wyze tried to hide) and regular server issues on their end, and ive sadly started to phase out my wyze products for better options
Wyze needs to stop focusing on the gadgets and spend some time and resources on system reliability.
As more and more customers rely on wyze as a critical Security solution, these outages become very unacceptable. Even CNET dropped their recommendation, which should have been a wake up call to Wyze.
I am starting to replace my older wyze devices with another, more reliable brand. Some of the features Wyze has aren’t there, but the Cameras and plugs works all the time.
My Wyze color bulbs say they are connected but they don’t turn on. I don’t have many issues with any other Wyze devices, but the color bulbs have been an ongoing headache. Also, a lot of my color bulbs keep burning out within a year or two. Incandescent bulbs seem to last longer than Wyze color bulbs at this point. It’s only the V1 color bulbs that are burning out, not the V2 or white bulbs. Those work flawlessly.
Thank you for this explanation.
Is there a way to get notifications on a one-on-one basis or is this still not possible?
I’m talking about when the cameras go off for us only, for any particular reasons.
2 out of 7 cams are now offline. I was doing so good up to 15 minutes ago. I noticed rules stopped working as I usually put the V3 cams asleep after dark.
