I am getting dozens of recordings on my camera with the use of the birdfeeder. Is there a way to bulk download these recordings? if not, it is a must need in order for this product to be successful. I certainly do not want to spend my evening downloading each clip individually, and I have the bird feeder too high up to be climbing on a ladder every day or two to remove the SD card.
@marcy, this seems encouraging:
Our Lens Bracket for Wyze Bird Feeder is so popular that weāve had a lot of requests for it to be sold separately. We hope to have it available as an accessory soon!
@kmr15963, these Wishlist items might be relevant to the type of feature youāre requesting (which Iād also like to see):
Iād really like to have direct LAN access to the microSD recordings without physically pulling the card, even if it means Iād still have to concatenate the 1-minute files together myself.
Put me down on that list for the adapter to be sold separately!
My Wyze Bird Feeder First Review.
I am pleased by the size and construction. It is bigger than I anticipated and very well designed and sturdily built. The Assembly is intuitive and simple ā I was able to get it together without reading the directs. But I am mechanically inclined. My background is Mechanical Engineering with some limited working experience in plastic.
The plastic is of a good desity and hardness for containing the seed and camera and standing up to the weather. I like that the pieces are designed with interlocking parts that are then secured with the screws. Kudos for including variety of mounting hardware for multiple optiond. The suctions cups are sturdy, easy to mount, and they really suck. I chose to use a mounting bracket, but I can seee where the suction cups may be just right for another application I have in mind. The extra harware is like free gifts that I can use on my own custom feeders.
The camera focus with the monocle is very good. I am using a V4 camera. I have tried the lense on my other cameras and it works well. I look forward to being able to purchase the lens separately to improve the vision on my existing feeders using my existing cameras.
Well made. Well played. My only critque is that it has been over 72 hours and I do not have a single bird landing. The Wyze Feeder is mounted on my Platform Feeder and I am using the same seed. Still plenty of birds on the Platform but they are not interested in the Wyze Feeder. Color scheme issue ? I donāt know. Waiting patiently.
This is my favorite part of the review:
I like the write-up. Thank you for sharing your experience!
A Wyze bird feeder is nice but birds are already attracted to my house. Here is a video from last year. Thanks again to @TomG for doing the SloMo.
Thatās what Iām thinking. That blue seems to bright even for my aging eyes
It could be the colors, or a lot going on theyād have to get used to. Iām thinking the platform setting gives them more room to hop around on (like being on the ground) in a more natural setting?
No color scheme issue. Birds are all over mine. I have so much bird video⦠I canāt really watch it all. Be sure to turn on Motion Events only. Shorten the detection distance so it wonāt get background stuff. It wonāt grab the birds as Pets properly.
The thing Iām finding is that I just have brown sparrows and finches around my feeder. No real other interesting birds. Kinda boring.
I will say the Solar Panel + Battery Cam Pro combo is top-notch. The sun keeps it charged and I can move it around anywhere. Very nice. And as you can see from the above screenshot⦠the birds are BUSY at the feeder. I can have a ton of 5 min videos and the battery is just fine.
I was thinking it would be too much but far from it. It keeps up and more!
I think part of the problem is that if the birds have a choice, they will choose to eat from the same platform they are use to first, and new birds will feel like it is open/safe. If you stopped putting seed on the platform, they will be much more likely to use the feeder.
What about on cloudy days?
Wyze needs to offer software that can identify birds. Several companies make these but they are pricey.
The āWhatbirdā was free. I havenāt used it in years, maybe it still is.
We had a stretch of about 4 cloudy/rainy days and the feeder battery dropped down to about 70% or so??? Not sure if there were pockets of sun or if the solar panel was still able to get a little bit of charge during that time but it was of no issue. Battery was fine and back to 100% on the first sunny day.
Thatās the thing, even if it dropped to 0%⦠the Sun is going to recharge it back to 100% in 1 day (or close to it). Itās self-sustaining. Well, I guess it canāt fill the bird feeder up on itās own (yet).
I have more than enough video to watch in the event the weather is gross for a few days and the feeder doesnāt have any activity or the battery drains.
For reference, I live in Central Indiana⦠so we have quite a few sunny days. Results may vary in the rain soaked states.
They have indicated they are working on this.
Iām in the middle of bringing up a bird Feeder.
Reading your post I am assuming you have a WBCP (Battery Cam Pro) with the Wyze Solar Panel. If your not then the following may not apply to you.
I have had a WBCP pointing at my driveway for almost a year. It has been a trouper but early on I learned about a few caveats.
If on continuous SD recording, the camera will drain the WBCP battery in approx 8 hours. Wyze warns not to do this. For grins I tried this a few months ago. Within hours it was down to about 25%. I then changed it to Events only to see how many day(s) it would take to charge back up to 100%. It took about 4 days. The best day I saw it increased approx 25%. In my driveway installation the solar panel faces the driveway, due east. I get a charge indication from about 9am until noon. I realize that if the panel was on the roof the 25% recharge might be 50%.
The second observation was how fast the WBCP would come alive. This camera is very stingy with power. I do not think it has a pre-roll. It must have a very low power state that looks for motion. In practice I see the following.
When my wife pulls into the driveway Tha camera reliably creates and records an event. Usually the event shows the car half way up the driveway.
When I take out the trash and walk by the camera sometimes it creates an Eventāsometimes it doesnāt.
To conserve battery Wyze reduced the frame rate. This is not a big deal, but is a bit noticeable when watching cars drive by.
I decided not to use the WBCP for the above reasons (and the WBCP is pricey and I happened to have a v4 on the shelf).
With the v4 on continuous SD recording, no spotlight or speaker/mic, I now am getting 3+ days non stop operation using a 20,000 mah battery/power bank . I am trying to integrate a solar panel into the equation.
Keep us apprised how your recharge is working and your opinion of the WBCP in your environment.
p. s. My Feeder has been operational for about a week. Wife keeps asking "where are the birds? "
Got my first birds today.
I have 5 of the WBCPās since launch. I would concur with the cameraās having a lag before they capture things. Mine watch the backyard at night and catch cats, opossums, and racoons. They seem to have a dead spot in their detection area in the lower frame of the camera lens. Overall, I like the cameras but I think the detection has an issue with reaction time and getting events due to the aforementioned blind spot.
The bird feeder and WBCP is a MUCH better experience. Battery stayās charged⦠itās getting events all day. I have the camera pointed all the way down in the feeder⦠thatās the only way to see the little birds. I think this makes it where the blind spot is not a factor because the detection zone is perfectly centered for the birds⦠so it catches everything.
But, if you are asking me which camera to put up to catch everything with great detection⦠go get a V4 all day. Have 3 of those since launch too. Their best camera by far.
