Wyze Video Doorbell v2 must be reinstalled after a power outage. Makes the unit worthless as you physically have to go through the installation process every time there is a power blip. Being away from home often that is not possible, and even if home a tremendous hassle!
We need a fix or a replacement product that will automatically reconnect!
This has not been my experience with Video Doorbell v2. In fact, I’ve had to have mine disconnected a few times for working on a custom mount and other reasons, and when I reconnect it to power from the transformer it connects to my home’s Wi-Fi without any additional intervention.
What you’re describing makes me wonder about power issues (wiring, adequate transformer output), Wi-Fi issues (signal strength at the doorbell camera’s location, etc.), whether or not the device is current on firmware, and whether or not it’s still under warranty. What troubleshooting steps have you taken, and what did Support say when you contacted them?
Welcome to the Forum, @jjaffee! ![]()
Wiring is in good shape, doorbell is within feet of strong eero mesh router. Updated to the best of my knowledge. Support responded to my concern “I completely understand how frustrating it must be to have to reinstall the Wyze Video Doorbell v2 after a power outage. Please know that our team is aware of this behavior and is actively reviewing similar reports to identify potential improvements in future updates.“
What additional detail can you provide about that? Specifically, I’d want to rule out a transformer/power/wiring issue by knowing the specified output of your transformer (AC Volts and Volt-Amperes), what your measured voltage (with a multimeter) is at the transformer, and what your measured voltage is where you actually have the device wired.
I’m curious about a few other things, as well:
- Aside from the problem you described in your initial post, how would you characterize the function of Video Doorbell v2? Does it work as expected otherwise?
- Are you routing power through a chime box and using a compatible chime? If so, then does a doorbell button press reliably actuate the chime?
- Is Chime Controller installed in the circuit?
I’m trying to develop a mental picture of your situation and think about what potential causes could be ruled out.
You can check this in a couple of ways:
- Navigate in the app to Video Doorbell v2’s Live Stream screen and then select Settings ➜ Device Info ➜ Firmware Version. That should tell you if you’re current.
- From the app’s Home screen, select Account ➜ Firmware Update and see the same information presented in a different way.
You can also find some information about firmware versions on the Release Notes & Firmware page.
For whatever it’s worth, my Video Doorbell v2 has been sitting on my desk because I want to redesign the mount, so I have something else wired in its place at the front door. I took my Video Doorbell v2 into the mechanical room where my transformer is and clipped it to power with test leads. Within less than a minute, it displayed a flashing orange, then flashing blue, then solid blue light, and I was able to view the live stream in the app immediately afterward. This is using production firmware 4.51.2.3419 and production Android Wyze app 3.8.1.718.
Now that I’m looking at my firmware version and what the Release Notes & Firmware page says, I’m wondering if they’ve seen a problem with the newest firmware that was released in September and if they’ve slowed or halted that roll-out, and that makes me even more curious about what version your device has. ![]()
Hi - so, you can power the WYZE VIDEO DOORBELL with 24VAC directly to the 2 screw terminals on the back - RIGHT?
As far as I know, this is the only approved way to power Wyze Video Doorbell (the actual original product that goes by that name). If you’re talking about a different model, then additional information would be helpful in understanding the nature of the question, but all five of the Wyze doorbell cameras can be powered this way, and some of those models (Video Doorbell Pro, Duo Cam Doorbell[1], and even the new Battery Video Doorbell) can also use battery power. Video Doorbell v2 is intended to be used as a wired doorbell (no battery option) connected to a home’s chime via its included Chime Controller.
My understanding of Duo Cam Doorbell is that its removable battery is required to be installed even when it’s wired to a home’s low-voltage AC. ↩︎
