Doorbell v2 died AGAIN

I’m on my second doorbell v2, first one replaced under warranty, and the replacement died too! I’ve never had a problem with my OG cameras, but the doorbell is absolute garbage! Are all the Wyze doorbells garbage, or just the v2 doorbell?

Welcome to the Forum, @ehcanadian7!

I won’t presume to speak for other users, but I really like my Video Doorbell v2 and have had good performance from it and from the newer Battery Video Doorbell (which I’m also using wired with the Chime Controller). I will say that my Video Doorbell v2 did develop a problem after several months where pressing the button no longer caused my home’s mechanical chime to ring, but in doing my own troubleshooting I discovered that the original “dumb” doorbell system had been wired incorrectly: The wire from the transformer was connected to the chime’s FRONT terminal and the wire from the doorbell button was connected to TRANS. Once I determined the correct wiring routes and reconnected Chime Controller, my Video Doorbell v2 resumed function as expected and hasn’t given me the same trouble since.

What’s killing your doorbells? Do you potentially have some kind of wiring or transformer issue? What did you have in place before your first Video Doorbell v2? Was that working as expected?

Incidentally, I also like the Cam OG and think it’s underappreciated, so I’m glad to see it get some love. :+1:

Similar to the OP, my first V2 doorbell cam gave up within a year (10 months) and refused to be added back to the network. Wyze graciously replaced it within warranty.

Now number 2 is starting some similar struggles after 3 months. Been offline for about a week. Went offline about 2-3 weeks ago but came back on it’s own. But not this time. Sure, I can bounce the router, re wire the doorbell, delete the doorbell and re add it, delete the app and start over. But you know what? I just want the darn things to work.

In a case like that, I’d wonder about power and wiring, so I’d want to verify that the transformer is adequate and that the measured voltage reflects the transformer’s actual rating. If power is being routed through a typical chime, then I’d also want to ensure that the chime is wired correctly. (As I said before, mine wasn’t originally, and it took months for my Video Doorbell v2’s problems to develop. I don’t understand why it worked for a while but then got flaky when it did.) I’d also be suspicious of Wi-Fi issues and investigate options for improving the signal delivered to the doorbell, and I’d want to see that it’s current with firmware after getting it online, because several firmware versions have supposedly incorporated Wi-Fi connectivity improvements.
