Video doorbell V2 chime/notification issues

An electrician setup my wired WYZE V2 video doorbell a few days ago and the camera works fine… but the doorbell feature is not working — I do not get an alert when the doorbell button is pressed nor does it ring my indoor chime (even thou the electrician setup the chime properly). The WYZE doorbell itself does go “ding ding” outside thou.

The indoor house chime is about 8 years old, it’s mechanical. The house was built in 1987 so I think the chime transformer is fine/adequate. Note: the original house doorbell/chime system worked fine before it was replaced with the WYZE V2 doorbell/camera.

My electrician thinks it’s a Settings problem. I checked all my current settings and they seem to be fine. Possibly the electrician didn’t choose the right settings at Setup? Can this be redone?

What did you and/or your electrician select for Doorbell Chime Type? From your Video Doorbell v2’s Live Stream screen in the app, tap  Settings ➜ Chime ➜ Doorbell Chime Type. If you had a regular ding-dong chime sound from the typical double tone bars when your original doorbell button was pressed, then you probably want to select Mechanical here. That might solve the chime issue.

If that doesn’t immediately fix it, then I’d be curious about other things:

  1. Do you have a chime that’s compatible with Video Doorbell v2?
  2. What’s your transformer’s rated output? This should be listed on the transformer as both a voltage (V or V AC) and volt-ampere (VA) rating. Wyze Video Doorbells typically expect to see 16-24 VAC, ≥10 VA output.
  3. What’s the measured voltage at the doorbell button’s location? It’s okay if you don’t know this since you had an electrician do the work. It’s something I measure myself when troubleshooting.
  4. Did the electrician install Chime Controller in your chime box?
  5. Was the electrician positive that the original chime was wired correctly? In my own experience troubleshooting an issue with my Video Doorbell v2, I discovered that the previous “dumb” doorbell button actuated the home’s built-in mechanical chime as expected, but the chime was wired backwards: The wire coming from the transformer was connected to the FRONT terminal, and the wire coming from the doorbell button was connected to TRANS. It’s important that these wires are correctly identified when connecting Chime Controller, and that’s something that’s easy enough for an electrician to trace. (I’m not an electrician, and I did it myself.)

Your notifications settings will be in  Settings ➜ Notifications, but you can also enable  Settings ➜ Virtual Calls if you’d prefer a doorbell button press to ring your phone like a normal phone call. If you’re getting a lot of other Wyze notifications and want the button press to stand out from those, then enabling Virtual Calls should help with that.
