If I click on an event and click Playback I get the error message “Micro SD Card not found”.
However the SD card does exist and the camera is recording to it.
If I select the camera in the app such that it shows me the live feed and then click Playback, I can see the timeline which has been recorded and I can manually scroll to the time of an event and see the playback.
So apparently, the algorithm that’s supposed to open the playback timeline based on the event time no longer functions.
Android Wyze App version v3.1.5(569), camera firmware version 4.9.9.3006.
This has recently been discussed as an issue with Cam Pan v3, as well. I recall that it was an issue reported to fix-it-friday topics earlier in the year, mostly affecting Cam v3s at that time, it seemed. I don’t recall seeing it reported on Cam v2 before. Have you logged it after reproducing the issue and then opened a ticket with the Log ID to get it on the engineers’ radar?
As @crease mentioned it is a known issue (didn’t know it extended to the v2s though). In addition to going to the timeline like you mentioned, when in the camera live view you can swipe up from the bottom to see the most recent 30 events for the cam too, playing from there should work also. It is only the “events” tab that seems to be messed up.
Well I know that swipe up works for the Panv3 and OG, not positive on the v2. Should have a “recent events” down there if so.
Swipe up doesn’t seem to do anything nor do I see a “recent events” in live view. There is a “View Playback” large button at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on View Playback shows the time line along with buttons for backward, pause, forward, take photo, record, sound and album. But no recent events there either
V2 interface is a bit different than the cams I have, but on my Panv3 and OGs, when on the main camera page (which shows the live view at the top) there is a “recent events” at the bottom and you can swipe up to show them.
When in the timeline/SD card view you can also scroll through and at least on mine the events are tagged with an icon (not sure about the v2 UI).
I don’t know how to log it. Can you point to the instructions?
I can see how to submit the log but not how to create one such that it captures when the error occurs.
I think your best bet is to reproduce the error message and then immediately submit a log after that. When you submit, the app will give you a Log ID and prompt you to follow up with Support, and Wyze’s system will e-mail you that same information. At that point, I’d visit the Help Center site and create a ticket, including the Log ID in the ticket. After that happens, their system will sent you another e-mail message saying that the ticket has been created and giving you the Wyze Ticket #, and then you can use that space (in your e-mail client) to reply with more detail about the problem.
You can expand this for the ticket creation steps if you need them.
Click into the “AI-powered search” box in the middle of the page and enter create ticket.
Click Yes, that is correct.
Repeat Step #3. ( UGH! )
Click No, I do not like chatbots.
Click This is about a product.*
Click Other.*
Click Create Ticket
Enter your contact details and a brief issue description (include a Log ID if you have one) and click Submit.
* Make your own appropriate/relevant choices here.[2]
It doesn’t really matter how brief the description is. Wyze’s system will generate an e-mail message to you automatically with a Wyze Ticket number, and you can just reply to that message from your e-mail client and add as much detail as you want.
They don’t give you a lot of space to describe the problem when submitting a log or creating a ticket, which is unfortunate (but I also don’t like typing a lot on a mobile device screen). They used to have a full-page ticket submission form in the Help Center, but that went away sometime this past summer.
Since I don’t own any Wyze Cams with the “old” UI, let’s see if any of the @Mavens who’ve been at this longer than I have can provide some input on your Cam v2.
I’m demonstrating my typical path. The number of steps will likely be the same and result in the identical endpoint regardless of the choices you make. ↩︎
That is interesting, I don’t have this problem on my V2 cam, but I am using a newer app version, so maybe it is fixed on the most recent app. Will you try to update your app to v3.2.0(580) and see if that resolves your issue?
If that doesn’t work try the following:
Expand this for instructions to clear Cache/Memory-Leak Variables:
CLEAR THE APP CACHE:
At a minimum, in the app go to the Account Tab
➜ Select App Settings
➜ Go down to where it says Cache File Size
➜ select Clear on the right side.
If using Android, Go back to your phone’s home screen and Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (or wherever you tap to initially open the app)
➜ Select App info in the pop-up menu.
➜ Select Storage and Cache
➜ Tap Clear cache (and consider tapping on Clear storage too) on the Storage screen.
➜ Just to be thorough, tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm).
Restart your phone.
Restart your router (and modem)
Restart the Wyze device (unplug the power cord and plug it back in)
Now try it again with everything pulling fresh and no potential memory leaks, etc.
Also, make sure you aren’t using a long 3rd-party USB cord or adapter as those are known to cause intermittent issues due to weak power received during times when the camera needs to draw more power.
If you’re still having an issue, then definitely submit a support ticket with Wyze so they can track this spreading to another model.
My Mavens question here was mostly about the sort of work-around that I think @dave27 was suggesting. When people have this “Unable to View Playback” message about no microSD card (even when one is in the camera and recording continuously) while trying to view from the Events tab, one work-around is to navigate directly to that camera’s Live Stream screen and then tap the SD Card control to display the vertical microSD card recording timeline and scroll to review tagged events there. That’s what some of us have done with Cam Pan v3 when it has this problem, but that camera has the “new” UI.
Since @debbernier is reporting this problem with Cam v2, I’m interested in an explanation of a similar process for that camera model, if it exists. I don’t have any older model cameras with the “old” UI (which I understand has a horizontal timeline). What insight do you have for that? Is it basically the same process with tagged events on a horizontally-scrolling microSD card recording timeline?
On the OG and PanV3 when on the main camera view (viewing the live stream) there is a “Recent Events” at the bottom that you can drag up. That is also a workaround for the Panv3, but I don’t know if the regular v3 and/or v2 have that, in which case the timeline is the only option. Hopefully the v2 timeline tags events with icons otherwise it will be pretty challenging. Basically you’d need to look at the timestamp on the event, then go to the sd card and find that spot on the timeline.
Hopefully wyze is working on fixing the missing icons on the OG and also this bug where you can’t watch clips from the events tab. Seems it is spreading to more and more cameras with each release.
As far as I can tell, the events are not tagged on the timeline. There’s no visible indicator. I literally have to painstakingly scroll to the time of the event. I do have “Forward” and “Backward” buttons which will move 30 seconds so that helps a little bit when I get close to the time I’m looking for.
The events themselves DO have a time tag so at least I know what time I’m scrolling for.
I think they fixed it!!!
When I first made this post, I was using the most recent app available on the play store but checking again today I saw the new version 3.2.0(580) and in the release notes they clearly modified the events page.
It looks very different now. And when I click on the (new) SD Card option it jumps to the event in the timeline!
Whew!
Thank you all for the timely responses and suggestions.
Thanks for taking the time to report that. I hope that it genuinely is a fix and that it also resolves the issue for the Cam Pan v3 users who have been having similar problems. I recall reading that the Events tab was revamped for the v3.2 app, but I haven’t yet updated to that one.
Yeah it was changed quite a bit (once you drill into an event anyway) however with my Panv3s they still give an error when trying to go to SD directly from there.
Oddly still two different errors for the two Panv3s. The older one initially says cannot read from card, then plays the event fine after a few seconds. The newer just says it has no SD card.
So my ~1.5 year old panv3 gives a brief error then works. My ~8 month old one (which came with the newer/updated mounting bracket) says no SD card. So there is a even newer one that has fixed it completely?
Luckily I both are 24x7 cams that I use the timeline to find stuff, never the events screen, so not a big deal for me. Just odd.
Dunno about that. In my table I show the Activation Dates, and my newer Cam Pan v3 was activated ~9 months ago. I know there was a design change, but I never bothered to compare the mounting brackets. My newer Cam Pan v3 happens to be black (older is white), so I don’t know if that figures into manufacturing run and has anything to do with it or not, but the newer black Cam Pan v3 is the one that used to give me the no microSD card present error.
Same here. I probably wouldn’t have even known that there was a problem if I hadn’t read about it here and then attempted it myself.
