Wyze Cam OG Telephoto?

I don’t think Wyze is blaming the customer, you’re just in a scenario they’ve probably never seen before and are trying to figure it out. From my experience, they’ve been good with replacing stuff that is wrong or broken, but I’ve never tried outside the warranty window.

But you do have to accept a bit of responsibility here, we all know that from time to time something is defective, incorrect, or even used and returned. Or worse someone returned something else in the package, it looked new, so they just tossed it back in inventory. Obviously none of those are the case here, but I can’t think of a time I bought anything and didn’t open/check/test it within a week at most, definitely always within the return window.

I have a feeling they’ll make it right. Mistakes happen on the manufacturing line (which isn’t even Wyze’s line, obviously another company makes these for them), just gotta be patient and let it get sorted out.

And interestingly the software sees it as a Tele and no way to use the spotlight.

If Wyze doesn’t resolve this to your satisfaction by next Wednesday, I’ll buy your unicorn for cost of new OGT + shipping. I’ll dissect it and get it working as an OG super-tele.

I wasn’t saying that Wyze is blaming the customer. I was relying to ssumerlin who insinuated it was basically my fault because I didn’t check it within the warranty period and Wyze holds no responsibility after the warranty. I don’t agree with that 100%. Because in this case it wasn’t a defect or it just stopped working, it was assembled incorrectly and is a less expensive camera than what I paid for.

My hope would be that at the very least they sell me a Telephoto camera at say half price and let me keep this camera but somehow fix it so I can access the spotlight on it. I could live with that solution. Or even just give me their latest camera the V4

Makes sense, it is an OGT board and body, just with the OG lens module (including the spotlight) installed. The spotlight won’t work since the OGT doesn’t know about it or support it.

I wouldn’t attempt to use that cam for anything, the image sensor and firmware in the OGT is likely designed to work with the 3x lens, and yours has a 1x lens in it, so the image will probably be off, not to mention the confusion in the software with the model name. I’m pretty sure you’ll end up with a replacement OGT, at which point the unicorn you have becomes a decoration, or maybe @Seapup wants it.

Insinuated? I was hoping to be more direct. :sunglasses:

If I ordered something and didn’t check it till a year later and found a turd in the box, I would be upset but still blame myself for not checking. Hopefully the smell would have given it away.

If you’ve the thread, doesn’t sound like you have, I’ve been using the camera for a few days now. There is nothing wrong with the image from it. And it seems to load the live view faster with this new app, than the V3 did. and the image quality is slightly better.

Wish it had the mounting hardware the other cameras have. But had Wyze used the same size mount screw hole, I could have taken the mount off an old V2 and put it on as I prefer the magnet mount.

And Seapup already said he wants it.

I’ve read it, including the part where you originally said there were issues with the image at night.

I’m not saying it won’t work, obviously it will. I’m saying it probably won’t work as well as a properly made camera, so why use it?

The image quality should be a lot better than the v3, more than just slightly. All the OGs now load pretty quickly.

If this is the attitude you’re taking with tech support, you may very well not end up getting a replacement after all.

So I took down the Unicorn and put the V3 back up. Is there something different with the AI between these two cameras? The V3 seems to be missing objects that the Unicorn picked up easily.

Wyze support contacted me again and asked for yet another picture, this time of the bottom sticker on the camera. Just after I had boxed it all up, figures. They all seem to agree is that this is basically an OG camera and not a Telephoto.

So after contact with 3 Wyze reps they aren’t going to do anything about my camera. They wrote “We have reviewed and confirmed that your proof of purchase and the activation date of your product do not match. In this case, we will not be able to provide a replacement”. Sounds like they are saying it was out of warranty, which is the very first thing I told the first rep I spoke to on the phone. This is disappointing, and guess I have to open anything I get from them right away, even if it’s a gift for someone else, just to confirm they sent me the correct product. Seems like they could have done some sort of courtesy replacement, since they are the ones that put together the wrong camera and since I paid for the more expensive camera yet received something that cost less.

I’m sorry to hear that. I can’t say I am too surprised. In my past, I worked customer service for several Fortune 500 companies, and I know all of them would’ve required me to deny a warranty replacement in this case too for similar reasons. I was still hoping that the obvious and verifiable exceptional circumstances might have someone consider making a special exception. But in this case, bureaucratic policy wins, sadly.

Well, as I said you’d think they would at least do some sort of courtesy thing, considering they are the ones that messed up. It will be a long time before I buy anymore camera from Wyze now. Unless they come out with a battery camera that has a telephoto and wide capability with a 10,000 mah battery. I like the form factor of the battery cam Pro but think it’s still a bit costly. The battery in that camera is good but still could use a longer lasting battery, without needing their solar panel (for indoor use).

Hey Seapup, you still want to buy this Unicorn from me?

Yes, I like the Battery Cam Pros, but they are a little expensive at regular price. I just saw they’re having a great sale on them right now though, so I’m kind of tempted!

Regular price for 1 is $89.98,
But this week they are on sale for the holiday where a 2-pack is $99.98!!. That’s ALMOST 2 for 1. Basically $50 each. So I am seriously considering getting a 2 pack while they’re only $50 each.

That’s not too bad for a camera that works as both wired or wireless with a removable battery or battery backup, 2K, bright spotlight, dual detection triggers (PIR and Radar to reduce false detection issues), etc. Very tempted indeed.

Yeah, that’s a good price for them. Okay I might pick up a few. But I don’t want to because I’m mad at Wyze right now! And I know once I do buy them, they will release a better version within the week. And I think their shipping charge is a bit high.

In that case, PLEASE take one for the team and buy them now! The rest of us will be excited to see a new better version launched soon! We’ll all thank you for your sacrifice! :joy:

As I look over their deal on this camera it really is only a deal on the 2 pack. You’d think the better deal would be the 3 pack but that’s $239.98 which makes each camera cost $79.99.

Yeah, a little strange. I"m guessing they are partially doing it this way for marketing data analysis to see how effective their messaging was based on the pattern changes in increased purchases this week vs weeks they didn’t do it, and compared to the sales rates for the other options. It can help a good analyst determine various future strategies.

Seems so odd, because if say I was going to buy 6 of those cameras, I’d buy 3 of the 2 packs instead of 2 of the 3 packs. Normally you should get a better deal with a larger pack option, so you’d think they would just price the pack options accordingly. Unless it reduces the shipping fee but knowing Wyze, I doubt it.

If I can’t sell my Unicorn camera, does anyone know of a way I can get this thing to be recognized as the OG camera it really is, in the software? Then I could have access to the spotlight.

I’m still pretty upset that I paid the Telephoto price tag for this less expensive OG version.
