Wyze Cam OG Telephoto?

Yes you can still pinch to zoom further with the telephoto, but it is digital zoom like all the other cams, quality will still suffer the further you zoom.

But regardless I’d guess that camera will have some negative effects of either the wrong lens or the wrong cover. Hopefully one of the mods here can help you get it swapped out.

I know the lens isn’t motorized and it’s a fixed 3x. For some reason I thought it would have a wider out digitally expanded view and when you pinched to zoom in, then it would be where the 3x was the clearest at its optimum focal point.

So now I have an OG with a non functioning spotlight that I paid for at the higher Telephoto price point. Thanks Wyze!

The clearest view for all these cams will be with no pinching at all. I don’t think the 3x lens would help any with the digital zoom, just makes the digital zoom unnecessary/less necessary.

I’ll have to try and do that later. The camera is mounted upside down, so I need to get up with a ladder to see it or take it down to see it. I’m trying to call Wyze but have been on hold for 15 minutes, at 30 minutes I’m hanging up.

UPDATE: The bottom on the box has that information, it’s WYZECGT. I’m talking with Wyze now.

“### No Vendor Exists” on MAC search? Mine is D03F2777F71E

Edit - Oh QR code.

Okay so after an hour with Wyze they said someone will contact me at some point with a follow up about it. They wanted several screen shots which I sent them. Guess I’ll be taking this camera down tonight and putting the V3 back up. So we shall see in a few days what they want to do, maybe. I really doubt they will replace it and instead just offer me a $10 credit. Which doesn’t solve anything. You’d think they would want this back to take a look at it. I do have to wonder how many cameras went out like this.

But I never did a MAC address search, not even sure where to do it.

To be honest, I’m jealous! I wish I was the one who opened up this cool :unicorn: :sob:

However, I can understand being upset thinking you ordered an OG-T and got something different that doesn’t meet the needs you got it for, so I’m totally supportive of contacting Wyze about it to try to get your need met.

The question is whether it really is a unicorn or if there was just a batch that went out weird like this. How come all the interesting things always happen to @Resist ?

The bigger issue is that I paid more for what they actually sent me. I do think they will just give me a refund of the price difference for the OG camera, even though I never wanted an OG camera. So then I’ll have to pay even more for a Telephoto camera, because prices have gone up. I really hope it isn’t a Unicorn and a batch of them were sold, then it will be more likely they will make this right with me. At the very least send me what paid for. But if they knew about it from complaints, you’d think they would tell people to check their cameras. I do have to wonder how many received one of these cameras as a gift, got the same batch I did and have no idea it’s not what it’s supposed to be. The right thing to do would be to send me a Telephoto camera and provide return shipping for me to return this camera or let me keep it, for my trouble.

This whole thing just sours me on Wyze even more.

I always test my purchases within the warranty period.

I hear so many complain about opening the box a year later. Seems like common sense to check your stuff.

Normally I do too but sometimes you get busy in life with other things that take priority. Blaming the customer when the business is the one at fault by not putting together the correct product, isn’t right. I didn’t get what the box said it was and what I paid for. It shouldn’t matter how much time has passed, as long as the company is still in business they should make it right.

I would agree with you if it was within the warranty period. You know Wyze does send out faulty products, according to your previous posts.

Time management is they key. If you’re too busy, make a note on the calendar or hire a secretary.

It is not the end of the world. At least you got $10.

I cannot feel sorry for you.

Honestly, you might be able to sell it for the cost of an OG to a Wyze fan. I personally know of some guys who have a lot of limited edition Wyze cams most people don’t even know ever existed. I don’t know if the ones I know in particular would be interested in buying or trading for it, but it’s certainly possible someone would be with the right convincing about the unique opportunity of owning not just a limited edition but a functional unicorn. (honestly, if Wyze didn’t change course so drastically in 2023, I might’ve been excited enough to offer to buy it off you…but I’ve toned down my obsessive excitement a little since they decided to switch to doing nothing but cameras for the last 2 years and killed some of the constant excitement they had going before that. I’m hoping they’ll go back to offering smart home expansion again soon now that they’re profitable…well…after they fix some of their recent app bugs and launch their new super service they’ve been teasing us about all year. :joy:

I wouldn’t even be completely unsurprised if someone from Wyze reaches out to you later about this so they can try to figure out how the supplier made this mistake, and maybe check into others that may have been produced around the same time.

But I am glad they still offered you something even though it’s no longer covered under warranty. I consider that reasonably good Customer service because now that the warranty is expired, they didn’t have to do anything. Giving you $10 and still keeping the camera was going out of their way to make an exception. I like that. I agree it would’ve been even better Customer Service to trade you (send back the mistake and ship a new OG-T to you), especially given all the evidence that it is a clear mistake. It is what it is.

I’m glad you shared the whole situation though. I was extremely interested in what you found, so you have my thanks regardless.

I never said they gave me $10, I didn’t get anything yet. We’ll see what they say if they ever get back to me. So apparently now, according to ssummerlin, I have to open the box and make sure the item is what I ordered and works, even if it is a gift for someone else.

If Wyze won’t do anything for me “because it’s outside of the warranty”, and someone here wants to buy if from me for the price of a new Telephoto and the shipping to send it to you, then you can have this “Unicorn”.

Ah, my appologies, I misunderstood the above comment, and I see now that was just your guess about what they will do, not what they already offered or said they will do. Thanks for clarifying.

Genuinely shocked to see the purple ring on an OG. I’ve got some pre production units that had all sorts of colors on the ring (we tested a few colors before landing on purple for tele and no ring color for OG), this reminds me a lot of those.

Wild to see in the wild, I bet there are fewer than 20 of these in existence.

The purple ring exists on his cam because it was manufactured, labeled (in 2 locations), packaged and sold as an OG Telephoto. But somehow that OG Tele housing received an OG lens.

That is crazy.
