Wyze App Notification Overhaul

Second that. Animated thumbnails would be great for Event List too.

That’s a great idea! And like @IL1 said that would be nice to have in the event list.

Agreed.

I can officially confirm we are working on playback GIFs for motion-detection notifications. Will be arriving next year.

That would be a pretty cool update! I didn’t even realize that phones supported [animated] GIFs for notifications.

They do they do!

That would be SOOOO cool! I wonder how much processing power that will take to convert it to a short gif for millions of notifications though :exploding_head: Hopefully it’s reasonable enough that you can pull it off, because the customer experience would be awesome to see an animated gif!

How long would you have the gif cover though? Seems like you have a lot of considerations to make…I assume you’re not going to animate the whole 5 minute event, but even just a couple of seconds from the start of the detection would be incredible.

That’s right. Most likely the first couple seconds of motion. I’m not too in the weeds in this one, but I can confirm we will be rolling it out next year. I think it’ll be very useful.

@WyzeMatt Will this be an Android only feature? I didn’t realize that iOS supported this type of feature.

iOS supports this feature, can confirm.

Oh Wow! I had no idea. I’ve never seen any iOS notifications that use that feature, including Ring.

Example of what this would look like on iOS (feat. me and the family)

This is an awesome idea. As soon as you guys launch this, you’ll have every company scrambling to copy you again just like you guys got so many companies to start copying you with others things like free 12 second cloud events (even though you moved away from this now, you got a bunch clones to do it for a while), then to copy you with free AI detections (including edge detections), then to copy you with starlight sensors, etc. I love how Wyze shakes up the industry with trying new things and has other people chasing you to catch up sometimes. It’s improved the overall market for everybody, even the people who don’t realize they have Wyze to thank for pushing their companies in the direction of improvements at a lower cost. It’s definitely one thing I really love about Wyze that it doesn’t get enough credit for.

And then add on the awesome Rules…when someone is at my front door, my lights blink green. Someone in backyard, lights blink red. Animal detected, lights turn blue. Love it.

Definitely love the new notifications. A+ on that Wyze team. Less is more for sure!

I do that with my lights too! :joy:

I have a dedicated bulb in my home office that blinks a different color depending on the detection happening. I also have Google and Alexa speakers that make announcements for some of the more important ones. I don’t even have to pull up my phone to see what a notification is. The lights or speakers tell me about important things happening.

Haha. To be fair, a few other companies DO do this already, but the most important thing to me at least is that we are focused on building useful features for you. I think this is one of them, so I’m glad we are doing it. There’s a few others in the works I’m also very excited about it.

PS: I also don’t think the thumbnail player we launched gets enough credit haha. I love whipping through those thumbnails to get a glance at what happened at my front door throughout the day quickly instead of scrolling through 74857388474 events

The thumbnail scroller thing is awesome!!! It really is so so so useful and makes it a million times easier to find stuff. I do wish it had the ability to show non AI events also though, because on some cameras I have like 2 or 3 ai events a day which makes it kinda useless on those cameras

Came in handy this morning… :+1:

I think the thumbnail show is great too!
My only wish is that it could be available to the shared user (like I wish they could replay footage from the SDcard).
Thanks WyzeMatt!

Experimenting with Cam Plus (new to me) on a single cam v2, I captured a day-long construction event adjacent to us here.

First I set up a time lapse (separately) quick and easy (15 sec interval) and everything worked. :+1:

Simultaneously…

The cam was recording to the SD card continuously.

and

I had Cam Plus recording and uploading all motion, highest sensitivity, and it did its not-totally-continuous, different-length-segments-separated-by-a-small-gap (no, I didn’t measure it) thing, without a hiccup.

AND

the bonus, the bonus, was the discovery that the Thumbnail Show provides a great, flexible (scrubbable) time-lapse effect in a situation like this! Effortless score!

I know some people complain about the small gaps but I now see how they serve to enable the effortless score I’ve achieved here. Well done!
