Thermostat offline repeatedly

Why do you believe it will not fix the issue you are experiencing? Just curious than anything else.

Because it’s not listed as a known bug. it’s just a hunch since it’s not specifically acknowledged. I’ve been wrong before though lol. Fingers crossed!!

I was wondering the same thing. And also why so many others don’t have issues. I wonder how many actually use it to remote monitor vs how many just use it as a cost effective manual digital thermostat.

Yea, I have found that you may not get an itemized list of what was fixed, but sometimes a fix for what you were experiencing has been provided.

Be curious to hear your results. I have had no issues so far with this update.

James, that is the best explanation thus far and probably spot on. I have 3 thermostats. Two works consistently and one has the continual problem. So, they must have made a change along the way to cause the problem.
Thanks,
Bill

I’ll definitely give it a go. How do I get the update and install it?

Start the App then…

  • Go to Account
  • Go to About
  • Go to Beta Program
  • Select Edit - Top Right
  • Scroll down through the list and toggle / Check the Thermostat option
  • Select Save at the bottom

This will enable the Beta Firmware for the Thermostat. You can also select other devices if you are so inclined.

Then go to Firmware Update page in Account and see if an update is available. You can also go to the Thermostat on the Home Screen, select Settings icon, top right, and scroll down to Device Info. From there you would select Firmware and see if there is an update for you. Note: you may be prompted for the update when you start the Thermostat

OK. I loaded up the new FW. I’ll report back in a week or so (going on a cruise) and see if it’s stayed online. It’ll be interesting. Thanks for all the help spamoni4!

Well, I guess it’s a bust. First day on the new firmware and it’s now offline again. It’s still on the network as before, Just not talking to the Wyze servers. Ping times (latency) is pretty low with 0% failures unlike before.

I’m thinking at this point would be to wire the thermostat to an external 24v transformer instead of it pulling power from the HVAC unit, Plug that transformer into a Wyze smart socket so it can then be remote power cycled. Seems like a lot of work but not sure what other options there are.

It seems mine went offline about the same time as yours. Yesterday I was shocked to see that it had magically came back online and then today is was back off. Is there a way of seeing what time it goes offline. It would be interesting to see if it happens to us at the same time.

What happens if you remove the T-Stat from the wall, wait about a minute, then plug it back in? Will it connect again?

CUrious what Router you are using and if you have WPA3 turned on and / or IP v6.

FWIW mine went off when this was first reported today too.

JON

If I pull it off it will reconnect without issue. Same thing if I shut power to the whole HVAC unit. The router I’m using is an Asus RT-N66U with IPv6 turned off. I’m using WPA2. The silly thermostat has stayed disconnected since last reporting it. But it still has network connectivity.

I wonder if it has todo with the number of devices connected to your Asus. Could you have reached your limit?

Went offline again last night sometime. I’m curious if it happened to anyone else.

If it did, I never noticed…
It’s connected now…

Have you installed the Beta release to see if it corrects this issue for you?

I am not seeing this issue with mine. I am on FW Version: 1.2.7 with Plugin Version 2.37.1.0

Also, I would contact Wyze, get a ticket and provide a log as well.

My Asus router only has 5 devices on it. 4 Wyze Cam 3’s and this thermostat. It’s remained offline since April 13th (12ish hours after I installed that beta update). It’s a a house in another state so there’s no internet activity other than these 5 devices. As it stands I can’t get the thermostat back online remote (no way to remove/restore power to it).

Again, I think the only recourse is as I said before. Wire it up to an external transformer and plug that into a Wyze Smart Plug so it can be remote and or triggered by a routine to shut down then restore power to it.

James, mine magically came on for a few days this week and now off line. Located in our seasonal summer home. I plan to just switch brands this summer. I have a lot of wyze products but their thermostat and doorbell are inferior and they have not resolved the issues.

If you guys get your connection issues resolved… please let us know what you did.
