I had a different brand lock for five years, but when I moved, I wanted to upgrade and I already had about 10 cameras from Wyde, so I wanted to use one app and I bought the Wyze doorbell and the lock. I needed the fingerprint option, so I went with the Wyze lock bolt. Unfortunately, I’m super disappointed that there is no way to lock or unlock the deadbolt when I’m not connected to Bluetooth. It doesn’t even reach my bedroom, so I’m unable to lock/unlock the door when in bed. We are also not able to link with Alexa. There also is no notification when the door is opened or closed. These are features my previous lock (5 years old) had. So, I was surprised to find that the Wyze lock bolt didn’t support these things. Are these things that will be able to be integrated into the Wyze lock bolt or do I need to find a different brand? I really like the lock otherwise. It locks and unlocks much more smoothly than our previous lock. But what it lacks, might be a dealbreaker. ![]()
Welcome to the Forum, @mommee_of_two! ![]()
When did you buy your current Lock Bolt? Is there a chance you could exchange it or possibly repurpose it elsewhere (to another door), and have you looked at the newer Lock Bolt v2?
This recently-released lock seems to tick a lot of the boxes you mentioned in your post:
- scanning fingerprints to unlock
- using a Wi-Fi connection (instead of strictly Bluetooth, though you would use Bluetooth for initial setup and connection to the app)
- being able to lock or unlock from a Wyze doorbell’s live stream screen (except for the original Video Doorbell (“v1”))
- integrating with third-party systems like Amazon Alexa and Google Home
- sending notifications when the lock actuates
According to this lock’s unboxing video and the Wyze Shop, it’s the same price as the original, even with these new features. I haven’t used the original Lock Bolt, but I use the Lock Bolt v2 and like it quite a bit. In fact, I’m debating whether to keep it in place or swap it for the new Palm Lock, which I also really like.
Which one do you like better? That might narrow it down for you (as well as for myself) ![]()
I really like Palm Lock a lot more than I expected to, and I think it’s getting better with some firmware updates to improve battery management. The palm vein scanning is pretty slick, and I like that I don’t have to enter a PIN to unlock it. I had a non-Wi-Fi-connected PIN-based electronic lock on that door before.
I think Palm Lock’s Auto-Lock feature is better than Lock Bolt v2’s because it calibrates to know the door’s position and can deploy the latch bolt immediately when the door is closed, which is how I have it set so that I don’t have to think about it when I walk out my front door (but I still listen and can hear the lock actuate when I do that). Lock Bolt v2’s Auto-Lock doesn’t sense whether the door is closed and is time-based only, so it will deploy the bolt even when the door is open. That doesn’t mean Palm Lock is immune to problems: Its Lock After Hours feature will deploy the bolt at the specified time regardless of whether the door is open, though I’m hoping that’s something Wyze can/will improve with firmware, too.
I guess I like them both for different reasons, so the decision might depend on how motivated I get: I drilled and cut the door to my garage and mortised the jamb specifically to install a deadbolt (that door didn’t have one before), and that’s where I have Lock Bolt v2 currently installed. If I replace that with a Palm Lock, then I’ll have to figure out where to put it if I want to continue trying to answer Forum questions about it. ![]()
Thanks for confirming my findings. So far the Wyze Palm Lock is the best option I could find by scouring the web. The thing is, winter has already started in my neck of the woods and I don’t want to change a lock in sub zero temperatures. I’ll have to wait thill the weather improves.
Thank you. I ordered and installed the Wyze lock V2 and started the return process for my lock bolt. So far, so good. Thank you for the suggestion! ![]()
You’re welcome! I hope that works out well for you and is a better fit for your needs.
