Playback from SD card freezes every 60 seconds

I now see yer refering to a very old cam. This forum is about issues with the OG cams playback on sd cards freezing.

Viewing from my iPhone I also have this problem with the 4 OG cameras I have installed. Wyze cam V2 and V3 does not have this issue.

Viewing from my Android phone/tablet there is no such problem with any of my cameras.

Me being a non-technical person, I can only guess this is a problem with the Apple App or maybe a setting within the iPhone itself. Nothing to do with your micro-SD card or your Wi-Fi router. My OGs are running on firmware 1.0.59, 1.0.67and 1.0.71.

Now that the new Cam V4 is out now…will we get a solution to our OG problem in the near future? I may buy a V4 to try out as Wyze offered me $10 off from a Cam V2 issue we had.

OK will keep searching for the solution…

Thank yall for keeping this thread alive. I have been very busy with real life but I am definitely still dealing with this issue. I wish a fix would come soon.

I’m also an iPhone user who has been having this issue with the OG. Here’s a thread I started about 3 months ago > How do I view continuous (non-stop) video footage on my Wyze OG’s SD card? - Cameras - Wyze Forum and as you can see we’re not the only ones that have been experiencing this problem. You’ll also see that I’ve submitted a diagnostic log that I never got any feedback on from Wyze. On a positive note, it’s also worth mentioning that I recently got a v4 which, like my v3s, doesn’t exhibit the OG flaw.

Wyze v1 is 7 years old or so i believe. I didn’t see anything in the title of this thread saying ā€˜OG’ - apologies for adding my comments in not strictly the right place.

Regardless of camera model age though… it irks me when a company drops support or even ā€˜kills’ an older model instead of letting it die of natural causes.
(Blink and your latest greatest gadget will be old , too.)

I also don’t like adding to the unsustainable throwaway culture, i want to choose products that last. Traditional cctv cameras would last 20years+, then be replaced for newer models with major resolution upgrades. But wyze cams were 1080p from the start (i think?).

The hardware still works fine. I have 4 cameras, 3 installed on the walls and one i havent used since we moved house. My not-upgraded-firmware camera (the fourth one) demonstrated in testing that it can playback constant footage with no interruptions. However all 3 cameras on the ā€˜up to date’ firmware can’t playback more than a minute of footage without freezing (and staying frozen until manual skip).
This shows it is very likely a firmware update that f’d up the playback experience, on my ā€˜v1’ cameras, and also on your ā€˜OG’ ones.

We’re treading water at this point - wyze support should be helping us but is notably silent. I reported all this exact issue via the support channels, but so far, zip.

No prob, I were just mentioning. Yea, the author didn’t state OG Cam in the subject.

I’ve not updated the FW on my OG’s, same as when they came out. I only updated the software on 3 ipads, & on those ipads I updated on, I have issues w the playback freezing. Those devices I didn’t update, the OG’s plays back just fine via SD cards.

I have rec several responses back to suppport tickets & they always say the same thang, they know there’s a prob & they’re working on it. They were working b4 the software update. They bundle so much stuff in updates, re diff products they sale.

Makes me wonder if they’re gonna discard the OG’s & ignore the prob. The hardware is good, just the software is so buggy.

I just read your forum. I’m glad a reader pointed you to this 1 so you know yer not alone w this issue & can read more feedback. No, the other cam’s do not experience the same playback issues as does the OG cams. It’s what they changed in the programming for the OG cams in the software update. I used to write programming for computers, & when there’s programming error, ya troubleshoot what ya changed. It’s been 4 months, & still no fix.

I just got notification for a firmware update on my V4’s. I have been replacing my OG POS TRASH cameras with V4’s due to this playback issue, They are working fine at this point.

I am scared [mod edit] to upgrade to the new firmware since this is what happened to my OG’s when I did a firmware upgrade. Has anybody had any bad experiences with the V4’s on the new firmware? Old version - 4.52.3.9455 and new version is 4.52.4.9887

Never buy an OG version… The ā€œNot-So-WYZE-Guysā€ are stealing and false advertising. No support!!!

I have a v4 that I updated and it is working well.

I don’t understand why WYZE isn’t offering a trade-in program for the OG cameras. They don’t seem to have the resources to fix their issues.

I have been having the same issues. It really sucks when trying to download video off the app. We just experienced a hail storm and needed the video for insurance. It cuts down out after 60 secs. I need 10 mins of video which has made it nearly impossible. I will remove the SD card and get the full video that way but what a waste. Now to decide if I want to scrap my 14 Wyze cameras and Cam Plus annual plan and just spend the extra money and get a full security system from ADT.

What I did was install the free BlueStacks emulator and then install the Android version of the Wyze app on that, then captured as much video as I needed without using ladders.

BS will run on most relatively recent PCs or Macs - laptop or desktop, and I am in no way affiliated with BlueStacks and am not benefitting in any way from this comment.

Wyze should to fix this pronto, but I have better things to do than wait for them, climb rickety ladders, or spend my money buying more stuff.

( well OK, I will always be buying more stuff…)

Thank you for the tip. I downloaded bluestacks yesterday and set up the wyze app on it and it works just fine.

On top of the playback freezing on the OG Cams, now I’m not getting any Event notices on any of my OG cams. I’ve not changed any of the settings. Getting cloud notificiations & seeing events on all of my other cameras, but no longer the OG’s. Are you, or is Anyone else expereincing this?
I even tried resetting services ro ā€œrebind service to enable cloud video recording.ā€

Wyze Beta app 3.0 is now available via TestFlight based on the thread here. Click here for the instructions to sign up for Wyze’s beta program.

You can try it out to see in hopes it might fix your OG playback issue. You might want to read the entire thread before deciding if you want to install because there are some concerns with how the layout UI is changed before. You can always revert back to 2.50.7.10 via Apple App Store.

I did check out the entire thread and I think I will pass for now. Sounds like they have a lot of work to do on it to make it more user friendly. It actually sounds like a mess at this point. Since I have replaced 10 of my 17 OG’s at this point, it is lesser of an issue. All my critical needs cameras are covered.

I am still hoping WYZE man’s up to the issue and fixes it. I am holding on to the ones that I replaced hoping… It still amazes me they are still offering them on their site and Amazon. Completely immoral knowing that they are bad!!!

Thank you for the suggestion, but it already feels like I’m running beta software, so I’m going to have to pass until they put some resources into quality control.

While responding to a wyze user in another forum regarding this same OG cam freezing issue, I saw on the right of my typing, a box that says, ā€œThis topic has been solved.ā€

I don’t know if this is correct, but I sure do hope so! I don’t see this same box while typing in this forum.
