I would also like the ability to disable notifications on devices that have been shared with me. This is a very active thread and doesn’t seem super difficult to implement. At the very least, a response from Wyze would be appreciated.
That’s one solution. I do that, too. But some like the ability to see things in real-time. My grandkids loved watching the birds when I used a much less capable camera. The Wyze camera is far superior, but sharing it gives viewers too many features I don’t want viewers to have.
Continuing the discussion from Multiple Users' Permissions for Shared Users:
Yes! Delete feature should default to permission from the account owner if a user should attempt deletion of footage or even cameras. Any delete for a non-account holder should funnel to the account holder for permission.
I could see something like that as an option, and one possible solution might be to pop a notification on the owner’s mobile device for the owner to confirm or deny any deletion initiated by another user who shares the device, but I’d hate to see that be the default. I imagine plenty of spouses, trusted business partners, or other shared users would like to have the ability to share full control (i.e., fully co-manage) devices without sharing credentials (which is absolutely not an ideal security practice). There are a lot of possible ways to go with this, but the permission system clearly could use some more layering and granularity.
The issue you’re raising had not occurred to me. I started this topic because Wyze (presently) only allows me to share my camera with lots of privileges I don’t want to share. The camera I want to share is in a birdhouse. I want to let my grandkids and friends view the bird families in real time. I want them to enjoy watching and possibly record video or take pictures.
However, I DON’T, for example, want someone turning on the siren, wondering “Gee, what does this button do?” Someone could delete my recordings, either accidentally or maliciously. I’d be sharing the fun of my birdycam with dozens of people if Wyze fixed this, allowing me to put limits on shared cameras.
My use cases are different that yours but I share your same concern which is apparently not that common.
So, unhappily, I rarely end up sharing Wyze cams because the people I need to share them with usually seem to fall into one of these categories:
Clueless geriatric relatives
Trustworthy moron employees
Untrustworthy weasel employees
Cocky computer literate volunteers / interns out to prove themselves
Small children with big fingers
People as clumsy as I am
The only granularity I need for Wyze cam sharing is:
-
God Mode - camera owner
-
Viewer - cannot screw up anything or change any settings, can view events, live and SD footage, but can not delete anything, hear anything or make weird sounds, and definitely can NOT turn cameras off.
But I’m all for as much configurability as possible. Nature footage really is better with sound.
Sorry, to inform you, my Dear Child. Wyze has REFUSED to MAKE ANY EDITS to the Shared Settings Since WYZE 1.I am an original Buyer from day one of the Company and They Do not Care, how you feel about it, nothing is going to change. The Worst is the Mics are REALLY GOOD and the person that you share with can Listen to everything you say in your house.
That is definitely not encouraging. I wonder how long “In Progress - Researching” takes anyhow…?
Yeah, I had to fix my interior V2s…
I may just check what’s possible with Ring.
As long as you pay for their subscription, sharing cams with Ring is very rational…

Shared User
-
For Ring doorbells, Ring cameras, and Ring Alarm system, Shared Users can:
-
Access Live View.
-
View and share video clips.*
-
View Event History.*
-
Can receive and control notifications.*
-
*Ring Alarm and all Ring Alarm accessories require a subscription for digital notifications, in-app features, digital arming/disarming, and integration with other Ring, Echo, and third party products. Subscription sold separately.
This company has absolutely no respect for the concerns of it’s users. Even worse, they’ve been leading us on for years about something they have no intention of correcting. Pathetic.
Do you know enough about their system to know if I could limit the privileges of a shared camera. For example, view and record only on shared camera? No siren, no deleting video, no lights on/off? All stuff I don’t want viewers to mess with.
You have no control over shared cameras. Your option is to share it or not share it. Every nuance in what is shared has been made by Wyze for you without your input.
That’s what this whole discussion is about. Everyone in this discussion is aware of that. My application of a Wyze camera is for birdwatching inside a birdhouse. For maximum enjoyment I want others to be able to view-only the actions of the bird family. Wyze doesn’t allow me to give viewers limited access, only all access. Not good.
A discussion is a good way to describe this 6 year old, 1015 comment thread. Unfortunately that’s all it is. Wyze is totally absent from it because they simply don’t care about user’s experience with their products. They only care about developing and selling new products to customers that have no way of knowing the design and interface details that they have failed to consider and refuse to address. Even the CEO is aware of this glaring issue and has ignored it.
I’m sincerely glad you asked this, and somewhat irritated at what I learned.
It was a great excuse for a friend and I to take a closer look at the settings on a couple of Ring Stick Up cams.
The good is what we thought - a shared user can view live video and view/download saved clips, but cannot mess with any critical settings - delete videos, turn the camera off, change home/away mode, alter night vision settings, etc, etc. And if the owner has audio listening/recording turned off, the shared user can not turn it back on.
Basically the shared viewer gets watch and save videos within parameters set up by the owner, and cannot change anything.
BUT, specifically to nature watching, the shared user CAN trigger the siren and speak through the camera speaker. And there seems to be no way to prevent this in the software.
This was a bit of a shock, because no one we knew had ever tried to do either of these things.
Apparently it is a safety feature and “an integral part of the Ring alarm system” that Ring sells in addition the basic cameras.
So, much more control than Wyze currently offers, but not quite a perfect solution for safely sharing bird watching.
It took me a while to find this thread. I thought I was the first to complain, then discovered this extremely old thread that has yet to be resolved. It’s things like this, that give me reason to purchase a more expensive product. This is simple stuff to implement. It’s indicative of an out of touch product manager and the company’s inability to fulfill their clients (us) needs.
I just wanted to come in here and let you all know that WYZE is having some really great sales right now, but I will NOT be buying another WYZE camera ever again, unless they can fix this feature! I was an idiot, and I bought all my family members, and many friends WYZE cameras for Christmas, and they all are sharing some of their non-private, outdoor cameras with me. They are too cheap to pay for the subscription, so now we all get notifications every time the wind blows! I get notifications on my phone every 5 minutes all day and night! I’ve obviously just turned off my notifications, but now I have no idea when someone at my front door presses the doorbell, or any other important notifications from my own cameras. This is ridiculous! How hard is it for them to give us the ability to turn on/off notifications from devices shared with us???
Sad. Wyze is not responsive on this issue.
While I agree that Wyze should resolve this themselves…
In the meantime, if you have Android, there is a workaround to save your sanity. You can use apps that work as notification interceptors like Macrodroid, Tasker, Buzzkill, and many others (I only listed those 3 because they are the ones I use). You can set them up to watch for any notification that comes from Wyze with that camera name in the title and tell it to automatically dismiss that notification before it shows up on your phone. Or you can tell it to notify about those ones in bulk at a specific time of day, maybe once a day or whatever to show you all of those ones all at the same time instead of every 5 minutes, just in case you still want to be able to see if there was anything important.
That is what I do. Then I don’t have to turn off my notifications to miss things like if someone comes to my front door.
Sadly, iOS doesn’t allow any of that, so iOS users are still out of luck.
And again, I agree Wyze should resolve this on their own. But I thought some people might appreciate ideas on what action they can take now to reduce their frustration.
