I am awaiting a solution to the fact that my old sensors, some of the originals stopped working or won’t connect to the bridge on the camera anymore. Everything worked great in the beginning, Sensors worked, motion detector worked, Now I am seeing so many conflicts. Not sure if replacing the sensors with new ones is going to resolve any problems or just create new ones. Having to resort to so many other resources to solve conflicts or make things work with Wyze makes the whole experience unpalatable to the mostly unwise general population who will never figure out how to do these things.
You can hope for Wyze to fix the V1 contact sensors somehow but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
If you want to be proactive, you should consider a different approach like Home Assistant.
Sure it requires some investment in both hardware and time but once you’re up, you can enjoy your Wyze sensors more reliably and you will never look back !
Every time I needed to re-pair a contact sensor, it was driving me crazy because of my Orbi router broadcasting 2.4 and 5Ghz bands and I had to resort to so many tricks to hide/disable the 5Ghz.
Since I plugged my Wyze bridge to my Raspberry Pi, it took literally under 20 seconds to pair a contact sensor.
Thanks Jerome, I appreciate the comment, and I had already started to look into it. Can you give me some clues on getting set up?
Hi billfern,
I have a RPi4 but I read you can use a Pi 3 without a problem to run Home Assistant.
I installed HassIO on a SD card using this method :
(it’s recommended to use a SSD instead of a SD card though)
Then I plugged my Wyze bridge to a USB port of my Pi and followed this tutorial :
It’s pretty straightforward, just requires to install HACS first (which is also explained in the video above and is very useful not only for the Wyze integration)
All this requires some time but is not complicated. And is really worth it
Hope this helps.
Another HA integration I discovered yesterday :
It supports not only sensors but bulbs and switches as well.
Installed it to play with a Wyze bulb and it worked : I was able to add it to an HA automation just fine
This is huge! I searched everywhere to try to get the bulbs to work on HA but everything I read said nobody could figure it out. So apparently now I can make all my bulbs and V1 sensors local on home assistant! Man, the V2’s need to get here soon because once they do, I’m ready to switch all the V1’s to HA!
I still need to figure out how to get Google Assistant to control Home Assistant. I tried following a walkthrough and it didn’t work. Will Alexa recognize and control devices run through Home Assistant?
Thank you for sharing! That’s awesome news!
For Google Assistant, did you watch that one ?
I haven’t tried myself.
I did start configuring Alexa in HA though but paused early in the process because I was stuck with the port forwarding on my Orbi router. I need to get back to it one day.
I took the 1-month trial with Nabu Casa and it worked fine with Alexa right off the bat. It’s $5 a month otherwise.
Switches?
I never saw wyze switches and I need them…
Nope, not really. As I immediately suspected, he’s just using the reverse engineered API (probably Alexey’s) so this is very much NOT local control. It depends on Wyze servers and your Wyze credentials, etc. It is really important when implementing such cool hacks to fully understand what is and is not still dependent on the vendor or “the cloud”.
As far as I understand the sensor bridge hacks are truly local (as is Dafang Hacks firmware) but this and TinyCam’s Wyze support are still entirely dependent on the Wyze ecosystem.
Unless I’m mistaken - corrections most welcome.
P.S. By "switches* I think he means the Wyze plugs
I concur with your understandings/thinks, thou I have no comment on the origins of the Wyze API used.
As @Customer corrected, I meant “plugs”, not “switches” although the author keeps writing “switch” on his Github which is confusing.
Thanks for the clarification info. It’s still nice that it will allow everything to work with Home Assistant, even if it is disappointingly still cloud reliant. I do eventually want to move all my bulbs and stuff to be able to function locally since my internet is so unreliable, but at least it allows some customizability help from Home Assistant. I’m slowly working on increasing Home Assistant use.
Did you get one of these emails , Is this what many of us have been asking?

Lucky if you live in the US and they might just replace these bricked contact sensors. In my case where i am overseas they would ask me to ship the defective item back to US to be replaced. Imagine how much that would cost for shipping. I would pretty much be cheaper getting a new one.
I live in Canada but have a USA shipping address which is the main reason that I am a strong user supporter of WYZE. I suggest you get the bricked units replaced by having them shipped to a USA address and then carried to you by a visitor or pick up next time you are in the USA.
