Wyze Web Portal and new Web View

Thank you, I watched your video carefully.

In fact, I don’t need to page and wait for everything to load, but as I had to divide the cameras into affinity blocks I still haven’t memorized the order of the blocks. It will get better with time.

Are you unhappy about the new four camera per page restriction? Any other things you like or don’t like? Here is a link to a survey for the new Web Portal.

Thank you for the suggestion, I enjoyed participating and being able to provide valuable information that could be useful in the development of the portal

Interestingly, I have the new UI on my Desktop, and still have the OLD UI on my Laptop (both using the same version of Chrome). I am not sure why I have both the old and the new UI, but it indicates that MAYBE there is some kind of setting or environment setting that MIGHT allow us to continue using the old UI. I wish I knew what the difference is or why this is happening, but it is interesting. Anyone have any ideas?

For what it is worth, now that I have had a chance to review the new UI, I agree with the general sentiment that I prefer the old UI. None of the positive new stuff is worth the new unwelcome negative stuff and limitations. At minimum they should’ve done some user testing, market research, and solicited feedback. The general reaction was easily anticipatable and some things seems like oversights. The devs clearly put in a lot of effort and I can appreciate that, but it’s important to take into account what users actually want and request, rather than trying to tell them what they are supposed to want.

I suspect Wyze’s release of the new web view version isn’t for all users, but rather a phased rollout strategy. I know this update has issues, but Wyze’s decision not to release the new version to all users is a wise one.

Yeah, it’s just weird that I have the new version on one computer and the old version on another computer when they’re both using the same Wyze account.

I suspect that your Chrome displaying the old version is due to caching. If you open a new tab in private browsing mode, it should show the current version if I’m correct.

You are likely correct, but I’m not going to jinx it! I’m going to keep this old UI working on here as long as possible! Maybe I should backup the cache so I can keep copying it back over the top of the new UI on all my browsers so I can keep using it instead of the new version. That might be a good solution. Then it would just take a little script to have it copy over the old cache or edit and rewrite the page live to use the old UI instead of the new one.

It’s tempting to ask an AI agent to help do that so the old UI keeps working indefinitely.

I don’t believe that the decision to add a new restriction that limits to subscribers to 4 cams or less in Live view which is a serious reduction in functionality was an oversight. That is supported by the fact that you believe that the “devs clearly put in a lot of effort” and the “general reaction was easily anticipatable [sic]”. So it is hardly likely that it was an oversight. I will go further and suggest that it was intentional and well thought out.

Especially after they have already taken our money for an “unlimited” subscription and we had the ability to stream more than 4 cams when we paid and subscribed. Imposing the new cam limits AFTER taking our money is unacceptable.

I tried the new UI for 1st time just now using Chrome under Win11 and am seeing 6 cams per page, not 4.

Yes, you’re right. This morning I’m managing to group 6 cameras.

Still not enough. Users should be able to create their own custom views… all cams on one page, some cams on multiple pages, drag and drop cams to a page and customize cam stream window size and location, etc. Default to whatever Wyze thinks is appropriate, but let users change the default and define contents of page(s) to suit their needs.

That’s my experience this morning, as well. Yesterday when I opened the Web Portal in a browser (cache intact) where I had previously seen the new UI, it had reverted and was showing me the previous version for some unknown reason. I guess Wyze is still tweaking it, and I imagine that it’s a work in progress and that they’re making changes based on the feedback they’re seeing, but this is only speculation on my part. :man_shrugging:

Also some Cams on no pages! I have a few that are set up in my account but back in the box for now (spare doorbell, etc.). Right now if I manage the pages (which I’m going to have to re-build after creating my 4-Cam groups a few days ago) and delete a Cam from where it is on a 6-Cam page, the current UI adds it to its own page at the end: Each time I delete a Cam, the UI creates a new page, so I have this growing number of 1-Cam pages at the end instead of just having deselected Cams show up in the sidebar list and available for selection but not actually on a page.

I’m not sure who thinks forcing every Cam to be on a page is a good idea. The app doesn’t require every Cam to be in a group, so the Web UI should not enforce this arrangement.

They should also consider updating the “What’s new with Wyze Web View?” article as they’re making these changes, because that still says this:

Max 4 cams: The Live stream tab shows up to four (4) total cameras on each page.

I imagine they’re not done making changes to this, so maybe that’s why they haven’t edited that article, but users seeking information from Help Center articles or the chatbot (which I believe consumes that content for its answers) are going to get wrong information from those sources if it’s not corrected.

Now getting six cams per page.

I opened a chat session yesterday and have been chatting with “service specialists” requesting they urgently fix the 4 camera issue. So, I think they are listening, not necessarily to me…but all of us.

I have written them again, asking to please put the number at least 9 to not waste so much space of a window. But I also reiterated that it needs to be a USER setting…so that if we have a network that can handle, we should be able to do 16. Or, as Seapup suggests…end user sets the custom view…5x4, or 4x3, or whatever.

That is not the part that I was referring to as being an oversight. I agree that limitation was intentional.

But there are a lot of other things that have been brought up and some others I noticed on my own related to the new theme and layout or even things like limiting a cam to only one page Even if it is the primary camera that you want to have on every camera page so it’s always viewable, you can’t do that. There are a lot of oversights.

I wasn’t necessarily calling the 4 camera limit an oversight, though There is a chance that it is. If it’s definitively true that they have updated the web portal to connect peer-to-peer instead of using Amazon kinesis through their servers where they have to pay for each camera connected (like was the case when they first launched the webview), then there would no longer be a financial incentive to limit the streaming to four cameras at a time, and in that case maybe it was just somebody who didn’t realize how important it was to so many people To be able to view a lot more cameras at once. In fact, on some of my monitors, I could only view four cameras at once on the web portal on the old UI. How many I could see at once depended on the aspect ratio and resolution of the monitor and the browser. I had one monitor that could only view four at a time, and I had another one that could view 20 at a time.

But yeah, overall, I agree that the four camera limit was very likely intentional and they are now working on some updates to expand that to six and hopefully later they will make it more flexible now that they are getting all of our feedback about how we hate being limited to four. Everybody’s engagement on this issue is apparently making a difference. :+1:

For me, the portal allows me to use the product to its fullest potential, as I added an extra monitor to view 6-9 cameras and to check if everything is still okay, I just glance at the monitor in question. This prevents you from having to constantly check the app on your phone or having to validate false alerts, etc. The fact that I don’t have to use my phone limits distractions during my work hours at home, because with the portal, my hands are free.

Yes, I think everyone agrees that the Wyze Web View Portal allows us to use our cams to their “fullest potential” in that we can use it to monitor multiple cams in LIVE view.

While I am glad that this was an acceptable work around for you, for most users, adding an extra monitor is not feasible. As well as the additional expense, each monitor needs to have its own power source. If subscribers were used to viewing multiple cams on a single large screen, such as a TV they would now multiple smaller TV’s or monitors to achieve the same view that they enjoyed before the Web View UI update. In some cases, users would also need additional computers and multiple instances of Chrome each open to an instance of Wyze Web View in order to accomplish that.
That solution is not ideal and does not scale well when you consider some people have many, many cameras. This is especially true when you take into consideration they already paid their annual subscription fee. Wyze already took their money for an Unlimited subscription plan and then decided afterwards to add new restrictions and limit the number of cams that they can view at one time on one page. First it was limited to 4, now it is limited to 6. This should never have happened in the first place.

I can almost live with update Ver 2.0
