While it is not an excuse for Wyze, who should be offering full integration with both Google and Alexa, I believe the “Works with Google” integration they mention with all their cams is a very overreaching generalized statement. They Live Stream with Google Home and that is about the extent of it. So, yes. They do “Work with Google”, just not very well and not to the depth that users would expect to see.
Yes, the streaming from my other Wyze cams works seamlessly with Google. I can’t imagine why I wouldn’t expect the doorbell cam to integrate at least as well as other Wyze cams.
I’m a very disappointed Wyze user.
I don’t have a VDBv2 as all the above feedback has convinced me to wait. I bought a VDBPro to replace my VDBv1 during the Prime Days sale but just haven’t gotten around to installing it. I was planning on retiring the VDBv1 and putting a VDBv2 on the back door. I have decided that isn’t an option now. The VDBv1 lives to stream another day on the back door.
My VDBv1 does stream to Google Home on both my Google Home App and my Google TV on Chromecast. I don’t have any of the Google Display devices.
You can technically power it through a usb cable, but it will void the warranty.
They clearly say you can use your smart speakers as doorbell chimes, in the same breath as talking about Amazon Echo and Google Home. My expectation there is they would have integrated visitor notifications at the VERY LEAST.
Enabling Automation Starters from there for Google Home is a short leap.
I ran into a similar issue with a Leviton light switch. I showed them how a TPLink light switch was enabled as a starter but theirs did not. They opened a ticket and said they’d work on it. Within 4-6 weeks I got an email saying “Give it a try now”, and lo and behold, the Leviton switch is now a starter in Google Home.
It doesn’t seem like a gargantuan amount of effort to get that working… just need the right folks at Wyze to realize it should be a priority for them.
Absolutely agree. Not sure why they would promote that specifically and not have it available within the GH Starters and Actions like it is within Alexa. I can’t even do that with GH on my V1 so it isn’t like it was there before. Recall my statement:
And therein lies the insurmountable obstacle. Integrations have been stagnant for well over a year already. I don’t see that changing any time soon.
How is this not straight up false advertising if they claim you can use a google home speaker as a chime but actually you can’t…?
I contacted Wyze and asked a couple of easy questions. The first one was can I use the v1 mounting plate for the v2 and I was told yes. Not true! I also asked if I could use the chime from the v1 with the v2 and was told yes. Again not true! This was over the chat option in the app. I have set it up and now it won’t ring my existing mechanical doorbell chime. So I guess I have to buy a transformer now. I have it set to ring on my Alexa but that doesn’t seem to work either, it’s like way delayed. Like 15 minutes behind. I don’t know why it’s so delayed.
I’m having the same problem.
In the Wyze app settings (under account, and notifications), you can set to turn on VOIP in the push notification.
I have that on, but still nothing shows up differently when the button is pushed.
I have android btw.
Only option I think we have is to keep opening tickets and show them this is a priority for their user base. If we’re quiet and they’re still selling units and nobody is returning the hardware, Wyze is unlikely to move quickly.
I have a couple tickets opened right now escalated to level 2, expecting a response in 24-48 hours.
Thanks. Please update us on the response you receive.
There are so many things wrong with this doorbell. The chime issue aside:
They advertise the google devices can be used as chime. But after contacting support, they said that is not true.
I don’t see any 12 second video when the doorbell is pressed. It is just a picture.
I don’t get any wyze app notifications when doorbell is pressed less than 5 minutes apart. Are we supposed to subscribe to cam plus for such a basic functionality?
There is a 2 second delay from pressing the doorbell and the chime. Why?
I heard back from Support… unfortunately they don’t seem to have a clue that this isn’t working. I’ll follow up and try to drive home the point that the integration they’re talking about doesn’t exist.
I took the time to type out a detailed reply… I can only hope it gets to the right people… It might not, but at least I tried.
Thanks! Detailed and well worded.
Yes same holes
Yes
Bought the V2 doorbell the day it came out. I was having the same issue as others where the mechanical doorbell would not ring. My 16V transformer wasn’t putting out quite enough voltage and with the voltage drop over the distance from the garage to the doorbell it just wasn’t enough. Replaced with a 24V transformer and now it rings just fine. I had the pro before which worked fine but got the V2 for a few reasons.
- It was new - I’m a sucker for that
- It looks different. The design looks more like a Ring and I think it’s easier for folks to tell how to ring it.
- SD card slot. This means you can get video events without buying Cam Plus.
Honestly, I didn’t know it had the mechanical ring peculiarity. I was fine with the chime on the pro but this works for me too.
For this question on VDB 2 FAQ, does this mean I won’t get 12 seconds video clip if I have a working sdcard in the VDB?
Why are some of my events video clips while others are just snapshots?
Wyze Video Doorbell v2 provides 12-second video clips when the doorbell is pressed, and if the microSD card is ejected unexpectedly. All other events will generate a snapshot. For full-length event videos, and so much more, subscribe to Cam Plus or Cam Protect.
So this is what I get on my Google Nest Hub.
It’ll try to load:
Then after about half a minute of trying:
Is this what others are seeing? Because some are saying with using the smart plug they can hack together a way for the google display to show on button press. But I can’t even get the display to show me a stream to start with.
