Wyze Video Doorbell v2 - Released 10/24/2023

I use the indoor Wyze Plugs for other Google Home Routine relays to and from Wyze Rules. Device Starters are limited to Household Routines. They are not available in Personal Routines.

Any device that has an On\Off function that is available as a starter should be able to be used: Wyze Plug, Cam, Bulb, Switch, etc.

What OS are you using?

Android [i have a Moto G7]

I have a Moto running Android 13. I did not upgrade to the VDBv2 because of some of the issues listed above. I do have the VDBv1 and use the VOIP. Was your VOIP working properly on the VDBv1? I always have an issue initially getting the VOIP call if I uninstall and reinstall the App because the Virtual SIM installed to the Android OS has to be reinstalled by the new app. This means I have to toggle the settings, push the button (no call comes in), then go to the Phone App settings and enable the Wyze Doorbell Virtual SIM in the Calling Account settings.

Another problem I run into is being forgetful. I have to use a secure tunnel VPN app to access a work server. When I forget and leave that on, nothing in the app works right. Eventually I figure it out though and disable my VPN.

Would buy one if it were wireless, seems to have everything I need except for the wireless feature.

Great workaround!

Just to clarify:

  1. the Wyze app rules turn on the outdoor plug (called “Doorbell Notification” in your screenshots) when the doorbell is pressed.
  2. Google Home app has a routine that says watches for the “Doorbell Notification” plug to turn on, and when it does, announce to all your google speakers “Someone is at the door”.

Have I missed anything?

Regarding reusing original plate scew holes, yes, you can depending. Because the vdbv2 back plate has elongated mount holes, it can be adjusted vertically. In my case, it was a good match for me with the siding on my house. I also had created vertical wedges from scrape pieces of the siding. Overall, an easy install. Connecting for front and rear doorbells with original chime was the most time consuming going from v1’s to v2’s.

Now that it’s installed I need a wedge to point it down. I live in a raised ranch so I see lots of sky…. Will have to custom fab something with wood.

Got the VDBv2 just in time for trick-or-treaters! Replaced a dumb doorbell and everything went great! Did not have to upgrade my existing 20 year old transformer (a Broan C905 16V 10VA transformer) as the mechanical chime worked right away.
I think the feature set of the VDBv2 is great. It’s exactly what I was waiting for (local SD storage, color night vision, works with existing wired system).
A minor niggle would be the location of the sd card. Would have preferred it to be located on the backside or bottom of the unit.
All and all very happy with it.

Congrats! Do you use Google integration? If so, is it working? Sadly, my chime isn’t working with a 16v, 10VA transformer.
If the Google integration was working, I’d replace the transformer. However, with neither working, I’m reluctant to invest more time in it.

@edmundson.steve No Wyze Doorbell works with Google.

I replaced my transformer, with $17 one from Amazon. Problem solved with my chime, as everyone else is reporting.

The doorbell initiates a VoIP call to your phone. You may have something turned off.

Does this apply to only Automation Routine Starters and Actions, or does this also apply to Live Streaming in the Google Home App, Google TV, and Google Display Devices?

I bet it’s 5-10 seconds delayed though, and not what they list as how it should work

My 16v 10va wasn’t working either. I installed a 24v 40va today that I got for $25 and the chime instantly started working.

Now if only we can get Google automation starters and visitor notifications working it’d be perfect.

Anyway to troubleshoot this to find what might be turned off?

V2 Doorbell rings my phone very quickly. Takes about 5-6 seconds from press of button to answering the call and talking.

That is if my phone is locked and I have to unlock with fingerprint (Pixel 6), click notification and finally press the phone button to start talking… 5-6 seconds.

You can’t even answer a door that fast when you are at home and physically there. At least I don’t. I let it ring twice just because the 1st ring is usually a ding-dong-ditch by Amazon.

@shagster68 - I agree with the others. This is clever. You should be a programmer for a living. If you can setup multi-step, smart home logic; you can program. Same concept, just more of it.

Good job.

Thank you!
i’ll try running thru these things on my phone

Then I’m simply returning the Wyze DB. They clearly advertise integration with Google and apparently there is none.
