Wyze Firmware Updates - 2/2/2026

Welcome to the Forum, @andrewjonthomson!

Other users have been reporting this for over a month now, at least for Cam v4 (which had an earlier separate firmware update), and some have been flashing back to earlier firmware versions. Adding to what @carverofchoice quoted, here are links to references from the tinyCam Monitor developer:

Wyzecam pan v3 firmware 4.50.16.5654 rtsp wont stream

Updated to 4.50.16.5654 and have tried multiple times to view the rtsp stream with vlc and other rtsp apps.

I have rtsps turned off and port 554 shows open on a port scan but vlc and streaming apps just fail with an error.

I have also tried connecting with putty to port 554. I get a connection but no responses to any RTSP commands.

What am I missing?

Hopefully this V3 firmware is solid, I only have one V3 left to update out of 10.

Thanks, it looks like you just made your own hyperlink since it does not exist on the firmware page. I didn’t think of trying that. Thanks again!

Welcome to the Forum, @rahtdrgn1!

Have you followed the instructions described on Wyze’s RTSP Testing page? I’ve previously tested only with RTSPS using FFplay but a few minutes ago disabled RTSPS and streamed in VLC with RTSP by following the instructions and using the URL described on that page.

Yes I’ve tried all variations of the recommended setup and nothing works.

I did the firware update via OTA and the camera shows that the 4.50.16.5654 firmware is isntalled. I’ve updated the app to the correct version but no matter what I try I cannot get any kind of rtsp stream to initiate.

The port is open on the camera (I have 2 actually and have the same issue with both) but vlc and any other rtsp streaming app just disconnects with ā€œunable to connect to serverā€ errors

Without more detail about what specific troubleshooting you’ve attempted (and being aware that you likely want to protect the RTSP-specific username and password you’ve assigned to your device if you decide to share examples of URLs and settings you’ve tried), what exact error messages you’ve received, and any other relevant information about your network, I think we’d all just be guessing at what to suggest.

I’ve played around with my own RTSP-enabled Cam Pan v3 today just to see what kind of problem I can force, and even after removing RTSP from that Cam, restarting that Cam, and going back through RTSP setup (which I hadn’t done since October, when it was on the earlier testing firmware that I flashed at that time), I can connect at will to stream0 or stream1 with VLC using RTSP and with FFplay using RTSP or RTSPS[1], and I see the expected ports open when I scan with Nmap[2]:

PORT STATE SERVICE
322/tcp open rtsps
554/tcp open rtsp

Since I’m just speculating at this point, these are my thoughts:

  1. Have you checked other Forum topics related to RTSP (particularly those in the Wyze News and Beta categories) to see if any advice there is useful to your particular situation?
  2. Is it possible that you have some issue with a local firewall or other security application on your attempted viewing device or in your LAN and that you might need to create a rule for allowing the necessary traffic to get this to work on your system?

Other people who have more experience with this might have better suggestions, but that’s what comes to my mind for now if you’re certain that you’ve explicitly followed Wyze’s instructions so far.

  1. I can get a stream via RTSPS when I have that enabled in the Wyze app for this Cam. If I have RTSPS disabled but try to connect to that Cam via RTSPS anyway, then FFplay will load with the expected command and show a success message but not actually stream anything, which seems odd to me. ā†©ļøŽ

  2. TCP port 322 reports as open even when I have RTSPS disabled in the Wyze app’s settings for that Cam. :man_shrugging: ā†©ļøŽ

Latest firmware version fails

Installing the latest firmware version (4.50.16.5654) was a huge mistake! Don’t do it! Now, all of our Pam Cam V3 stop recording to SD card (SD card ā€œnot recognizedā€). So recording to local SD card is no longer possible! Is this Wyze’s way of forcing users to pay for subscription plans? If this is the case, Wyze has gotten too sleazy! :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: . Not only that, now, all of our Cam Pan V3 cameras also take a very long time to connect (to have live video display). They now often take more than 25 seconds to establish live feed! Everything seemed to be working just fine BEFORE the update to the aforementioned firmware version!

New firmware causes problems

Latest firmware version for Cam v3 has been causing lots of problems to our cameras. Now, after the installation of the new update, the cameras take forever to provide live feed or even to establish connection. This happens to all of our Wyze cameras now. Very frustrating to use Wyze products! Has Wyze gone down hill with incompetent engineers? I’ve stopped buying any more of Wyze products for my company.

Same results here. My v4 cameras seem to work fine. Just the v3’s having problems Viewing the SD Card I see it recorded activity but the camera did not green box it or identify persons, pets, cars, etc.

Was SD card recording working prior to the update?

Both of my cameras, 1 V3 and 1 V3 PAN are working fine after the update. When I first fired up the V3 PAN, it did show it couldn’t connect to the SD card, but I refreshed the screen and it was then fine. Not sure that I might just be a cache issue. Just my two cents worth.

I’ve tried everything on my pan v3. reboot. reset. etc. rtsp settings are set in the app. Not using secure rtsp because this cam is a skycam that (if and when RTSP works I would like to stream a feed to my Agent DVR.

camera port scan shows that port 554 is open. but connecting to it just returns silence. vlc tries to connect and just returns the following

a port scan of the cam’s ip returns

RTSP port is open…… just silent on all attempts to connect

here is a packet capture as i try to connect with vlc…

Yes no issues.
I did more digging and I found one of my V4’s is having the same issue. I think I read the latest updates were enhancing security and it feels like it’s maybe a long delay in making connections? I don’t know what the protocol is IE: record to SD Card then identify, connect, report? It definitely started with the last update.

I was considering flashing back to a previous version and see how that reacts.

well well It seems even with rtsps turned off I still have to send it my username and password.

I thought disabling rtsps meant it didnt need credintials passed with the connection request… so… basicly..

I’m an idiot! its working. Forget I was here! =)

Of course you do, and that’s the first thing I noticed missing from your VLC screenshot, because your credentials weren’t in the URL showing in the error message. That’s why I mentioned this earlier:

They note that you have to pass <username>:<password> in the URL in the ā€œVerifying Your Streamā€ section of their instructions.

Something I observed yesterday that may or may not be useful to you: If I pass the rtsp://<username>:<password>@<cam.ip.v4.address>/stream0/ (or stream1) to VLC to authenticate and load the stream, let it run for a few seconds, stop it (leaving VLC open), and then pass the non-credentialed rtsp://<cam.ip.v4.address>/stream0/ (or stream1) URL to VLC, it will play the stream for me even though I didn’t send the username and password that time. I don’t know if that’s normal behavior for RTSP-enabled devices like this, but it wasn’t what I expected to see when I was trying to replicate problems with this yesterday.

Anyway, I’m glad you got it working. Thank you for taking the time to post updates! :+1:

Same credential issue here. I didn’t find a way to save the credentials.

The saga with this Pancam3 continues. I was at my mothers home where this camera would no longer function after the .5654 firmware update. I was equipped with a fresh formatted SD card that had the previous firmware bin file on it. But.. after repeated attempts, the cam would not reflash with this firmware. I never got the purple light. And once it was booted up, same issues of not being able to see live feed. It still worked otherwise, dumping events to the cloud etc…

So then I brought the cam back to my home, obviously separate WIFI and router. It is now working and I can get live feed. It had a couple moments where the live feed wasn’t working… but now after a couple days, it’s working just fine at my home. I then read up on issues of firmware not flashing, not getting the purple light etc.. and used all those inputs I found. Still could NOT get this cam to flash the previous firmware. The cam simple boots up, even when I’m sure the setup button is engaged when powering up. Also went thru two different SD cards with long Fat32 formatting. Then tried a couple different ways to unzip the firmware. And in all these cases, the camera would never go to the purple light for flash the firmware off the SD card. Instead it just booted up, and started recording to the SD card. File name was fine for the firmware per all the advise I saw.

So… I’m done for now. Here at my house the cam is working fine. I may try and take it back to my mothers home next time. See if I have the latest software update on her router. See what happens basically.

Hopefully new firmware arrives sooner than later.

  • DoorBell V2

  • Cam Floodlight Pro

These are my two requests as well for the next one’s I would like to have RTSP on. Once it is I’ll be buying more FLP and replacing my ezviz DB1 with a Wyze doorbell v2
