RTSP for v3 and Pan v3

Hey! We’ve finally got a beta app for RTSP for v3 and Pan v3.

Here’s everything you need to get access: https://wyze-beta.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/rtsp.html

Thank you so much for your patience!

Dave,

this is great information. Thanks for taking the time to provided the link to the information.

You are now making me dig out one of my Pan V3’s or Cam V3’s to play and test this out.

Will this topic also for other camera’s like the V3 Pro, V4 and V4 PAN ?

While I can’t speak for or represent Wyze, typically in this beta category, they create a new thread for each new app and firmware version That is being beta tested. This ensures that all the comments are about that specifically released firmware and app version. Then when they release a new one, they typically do a new thread so that all of the comments are applicable only to the new update.

Plus, since the topic only names two camera models, I am sure that they would just create a new thread for new camera models, though. It’s definitely possible that a mod could just update the thread title to include more later, they don’t typically do it that way.

That’s a good explanation. :+1:

It’s also why I was asking about it in the Wyze News topic:

It seems like tracking feedback could get really messy really quickly if users having problems or trying to describe bugs don’t have a structured way/place to post about those things, so I think it’s important to know how to get good information back to the developers.

At this early stage, we’re really working Alpha.

Oh, I get that, too. I’m just thinking ahead. My :brain: tries to make order out of things…sometimes.

Just asking but isn’t feeback supposed to go here, and chatter discussions, complaints lol, here in the thread(s)

Could be, and I’m aware of the form. I was just seeking some guidance because topics here often tend to get pretty cluttered.

I also thought it was curious that they’re using a Google Forms URL with a single input field for collecting feedback on this project, but with the earlier AI Garage Door Detection roll-out they included a link in the announcement e-mail that went to a Jotform[1] feedback form which was structured to collect more detailed information. Because the locations for the project files and app downloads have already changed since this first dropped on Friday, I’m just trying to wrap my head around the organizational piece, as I’d really like to see this succeed.

  1. This is also the platform they used to collect and tally votes during the Wyzies stream. ↩︎

Hey all, Here is an updated Android RTSP test app, which fixes an issue where a username can’t be edited. https://wyze-beta.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/rtsp.html

  1. What kind of realistic ETA is there for merging RTSP into the main branch of production firmware for the cameras?
  2. If I go on a ladder and update my cameras, will I have to redo it later when PROD firmware with this added gets released?
  3. Can you please specify if the GWELL based products (OG cameras) will ever see RTSP? I have a lot of these in boxes and I won’t open them if they won’t ever work with RTSP.

Quick Update 11/14/2025

The Wyze team is monitoring this thread, the feedback submissions, and working on bugs found by our own QA as well. Mostly of the bugs are UI and app related currently. The best place to continue to leave feedback is here: Wyze RTSP Round 1 Feedback

When will this version of RTSP go into the Wyze app for real? We are aiming for the 3.9 App release: Beta 11/17, public: 12/11. We will start firmware full regression testing next week. The estimated beta release time for firmware will be 12/1.

3. What other cameras will be included? For the first release just v3 and Pan v3. Next up will be v4 targeting to release January 2026.

Here’s a summary of the feedback we received and status.

  • [RESOLVED] Android App Issues: Users experienced difficulty with the Android app, including being unable to install the app on devices like the Pixel 9 Pro XL or Android 16, and the RTSP setup process failing to advance or save credentials on various Android devices (e.g., backing out to the setup page, showing “RTSP credentials failed to save”). Users are requesting an Android port and bug list.

  • [RESOLVED] Firmware and Setup Difficulties: Several users reported issues with firmware installation (e.g., 64GB SD card not working, difficulty with the purple LED step on the Pan Cam V3) and an error preventing them from accessing the firmware link due to a SharePoint access issue.

  • [PARTIALLY RESOLVED, FEATURE REQUESTS WILL BE IN FUTURE RELEASES] RTSP Functionality and Requests: The stream works well for some users (e.g., low lag, successful HomeKit integration via Scrypted or HomeAssistant), but others experienced the feed failing after a few hours. Users requested features like motion triggers for HomeKit Secure Video, the ability to control panning from third-party sources (e.g., AgentDVR, BlueIris), and adding SFTP/SCP support.

  • [INVESTIGATING] Camera Behavior and Compatibility: The RTSP feed continues to work even when the V3 camera’s indicator light is off or it enters privacy mode, leading to a request for a toggle feature for this behavior. Some reported the RTSP firmware breaking compatibility with the non-beta Wyze app, and there are requests for RTSP support on Cam V4 and Wyze Floodlight cameras.

  • [RESOLVED] Error Codes: Some users faced errors like error 36 or -16, no feed, and loss of pan/tilt control after installing the RTSP firmware on the Pan Cam V3. A user reported not seeing the RTSP option in the Advanced menu after a failed setup.

Feedback left at designated link,

Error code 36 for me is not resolved, regular app 3.8.6 (723) will not open Pan V3 live view.

Did at first after RTSP flash, but within a week or two fails on error 36.

RTSP app 3.9.0_a905 does open Pan V3 that’s flashed live view.

We found that people with this issue were using the incorrect app. Make sure you are using the RTSP specific app not the regular app until it gets merged.

I love these updates, Dave!

WOW! Faster than I expected! I love this!

I’m excited for this and the V3Pro eventually :crossed_fingers: (I have a lot of V3Pros that I replaced with V4 cameras, but RTSP would make them more useful again, especially since their Alexa integration triggers haven’t been working well lately). Then the Floodlight Pro.

I’m interested to see if Wyze will have 2K cameras send 2K RTSP or not. A lot of competitors always downgrade resolution to 1080p when someone turns on RTSP. :sob: (My Eufy and Tapo cameras downgrade 2K cams to require using 1080p if I want RTSP on)

This is intriguing. Would this also mean remote (i.e., over the LAN) access to microSD recordings, or is a more limited type of SFTP/SCP support being considered? Hopefully you’ll be able to share more details about that in the future.

In any case, I like seeing the engagement here and appreciate the progress update! :+1:

This is interesting to me because this could allow Home Assistant access to the footage.

And….it’s always such a pain to pull video clips….this might make it easier. Sorry but not sorry, who’s great idea was it that if you want to pull footage, you have to play it back in real-time to “re-record” it? tp-link serves up the SD card footage in 3 minute chunks and you can literally just directly download it to your device without viewing it at all. We need this ability.

@WyzeDave is it possible to add RTSP to the battery cameras? I like my battery cam pro, but i actually keep it wired to power 24/7 so it would be nice to see this on there.

Also don’t want to have to replace my floodlight, will the floodlight pro ever see this?

I have the old video doorbell pros as well, but they lack SD card slots.

This. @WyzeDave Need Doorbells included.

Posting here for visibility.

I can tell you that I did block all inbound and outbound TCP traffic. The camera light started to blink to indicate there is a connection issue.

  1. RTSP still functions
  2. The camera doesn’t do a full reboot, but it’s restarting services of some kind, because it will drop off the network for exactly 2 pings consistently. This will also stop the RTSP feed briefly when this happens. Did they change the code so it only reboots services in the camera software instead of a full shutdown? We might need some new logic for when RTSP is enabled and the cloud goes down. Perhaps a setting to “Restart when cloud services are unavailable” … with an option of “5, 10, 30, 60 minutes” or “don’t restart at all”. I can see this being a nightmare if you have 20-30 cameras on your network, cloud goes down, and the cameras loop-restarting things, especially for those who wish to block the cloud once RTSP gets activated (there are some of us that do this). This would spam ones network with retries, and should be looked into!
