I’m excited for cameras to support Matter now! I really hope Wyze implements it so we can get everything into Home Assistant! For those curious on what features Matter supports, I made a fairly comprehensive Matrix/Table in the wishlist topic for Matter here:
But yeah, I am definitely going to be asking them about Matter in the next AMA!!! At least that Wishlist request is currently listed as “In Progress - Researching” instead of “Maybe Later” or “Probably Not” so I would say it’s almost for sure some future cameras will support it. The question is about past cameras. One problem is that Matter charges a yearly fee FOREVER for each device model a company wants to have support matter. It might not be financially feasible to do it for a ton of individual old models. What I would do instead if I were them is I would either create a Matter Bridge/Hub and then have that Bridge be Matter Compliant and share legacy device models (cameras) through Matter that way. This would be way easier than doing individual support for everything. ORRRRRR…finally get around to doing a full Home Assistant Integration directly, and then anyone who wants to use their cameras on other platforms can just use Home Assistant’s “Mattery Bridge” to link the cameras to other platforms. Problem solved. I like that idea (note, I am assuming that Home Assistant will be updating their Matter Bridge to support cameras now that cameras are supported by Matter).
Yes! They started developing RTSP. The V3 cam and Pan V3 are in beta testing for RTSP. It works great. Dave indicated it should be launched publicly by December:
I’ve been using it. It’s working great for me. RTSP isn’t as cool as Matter though, but at least it lets me bring it into Home Assistant like other RTSP cams.
