Sorry to y’all who got the Outdoor cam, I’m glad I waited. V3 > Outdoor
No need to be sorry. I love my WCOs! I have them in places where I can’t run power. And I love how they can be moved to wherever I want, whenever I want. I have 4 base stations positioned around to be able to cover my 1/2 acre lot.
Next spring I am going to set up a “robin cam” when they start building a next. Not matter where it is.
I feel sorry for the folks who bought a couple of V2s last Saturday.
I’m going to preface all of what I’m writing with saying that I think you’ve done great job on creating what I believe is a great camera for $20. You’ve done it again.
That being said, here is where it goes downhill. I like you Wyze, but color me officially disappointed both in principle and with this product as an upgrade. I have been defending Wyze in a number of places online. I’m not a “fanboy” but I give credit where it is due. People complain about the “bait and switch” sketchiness of person detection and I’ve defended you up and down, saying it’s “not their fault” and fleshing out xnor.ai and what you’ve told us here in the forums…which essentially boiled down to the cameras done really have the hardware for on person ai, etc. so it has to be done through the cloud, but that you managed to grandfather a solution that you’re trying this whole “pay what you want” thing with.
You’re now about to release a new camera which has “more processing power” and are still pushing people into using the cam plus sub, which employs PER camera pricing and essentially adds the necessity of a sub to the new camera unless people are satisfied with a motion detected recording every 5 minutes (no one is satisfied with this anymore, it’s 2020 and there are much better options). I really thought that Wyze would have taken some inspiration and learned some lessons from Eufy - a competitor that I also use but have also defended Wyze against - but not so much, it seems.
I like Starlight. I have it on my Reolink Argus PT and enjoy it very much. But you haven’t added any real functionality otherwise and are hedging your bets on people using Cam Plus. The only tangible, noticeable upgrade is water-resistance and starlight. So now I have a choice of sacrificing my “pay what I want” for all cameras on my account in order to get starlight and be able to “officially” mount the camera outside vs. having to enclose it, then be stuck paying almost $2 per camera for years. Not cool. Also, no deal, especially in the face of paying an extra $10 upfront to buy the Eufy camera, which has this “AI” built-in and at the very least will do “Person Detection” for absolutely free. Now you’re rowing in the same boat as Google, Netgear, Ring and all the other companies which require a sub for their hardware to become truly useful, which again, is disappointing. One of the reasons I really like and respected Wyze was your flying in the face of subs.
I pre-ordered 3 but am now rushing to cancel (there’s no cancel button, yikes!) because I made the terrible assumption that on-board person detection was in place for the V3s but am now reading that it is not; I can’t think of a single good reason for it to not be unless it just needs firmware to do so? /shrug.
Not happy at all.
I was kinda expecting a Wyze V3 because it felt like they were being limited by the V2’s hardware. I think/hope/expect them to be developing a new AI that can run in this new hardware, but I suppose it will take some time (if it turns out to be posible…).
I confess that I just bought an Eufy 2K indoor camera, just to test the 2K resolution and their on-device people detection. I also have the pay-what-you-want in two cameras I installed outdoors, but still have most of my Wyze’s V2 and Pan with the old firmware with Xnor.ai person detection, that I don’t update just in case the pay-what-you-want doesn’t work for wyze and they end cancelling it.
I’m in for 6 to replace my V2’s … People detection would be nice if they can add it in the future on the device but I’m not into monthly plans. Also I find Person detection is a 50/50 hit or miss. We have big wasp’s here and they often show as a person. My main reason is the night vision upgrade. Nice work Wyze!
Thank you for your feedback! We are improving the person detection.
I FEEL LIKE I MISSED OUT ON TESTING THESE! Why did you guys even release the WCO when this magic was coming. Im so excited about this now. This is epic. You guys are going to win the market for sure with this one. Nest cam wont have anything besides 4k on you. This is going to be a game changer!!! Especially being able to be indoor and outdoor! This is a brilliant solution to what I have been looking for that fits all the needs. Just need some more research on the accessories with that spotlight. Need to know how bright it will be. Im gonna be preordering as soon as the wife will let me. @UserCustomerGwen you should have told me about these. lol I know I havent been very present as of late and thats do to me working 7 days a week right now at night. But maybe I will have to change my presence again. Preordered the doorbell cam too even though I will have to figure out a place to mount it even with no power. lol This is a complete game changer though. Now I just need to be able to use the Wyze app on my chromebook and its set…
MODERATOR NOTE: See this topic: Running Wyze app on Chromebook
Where in Europe can I order it?
I dont think youll be able to order it yet in Europe nor anytime soon. Maybe someone in the US will order them for you and then can ship them to you. But I see that being more costly than you might prefer. Depending on how bad you want them.
Double the shipping costs.
Woah so much discussion I’m still catching up.
Does anyone know if playback will improve with the V3? It is still super painful to try and find footage in the timeline.
Any plans to use the new processing power to help smooth out going through the recorded footage?
My experience has been that the playback populates way faster and seems to be faster and smoother scrolling around in time.
Your device’s power and your network will also play a major role with this.
He said wouldn’t want.
Why did you guys even release the WCO when this magic was coming.
Because the WCO is nothing like the V3.
Some people wanted a battery powered outdoor camera. The rest of us wanted a waterproof V2. ![]()
Now everyone is happy except the people that didn’t read the specs of the WCO before buying it.
Lol I guess that makes some sense. Still some magic to be had in these things. The WCO isnt bad by any means. Its just not what I was looking for in full. I was actually just now looking at the V2 with that new outdoor case with the two spotlights on it. Would have been what I needed. But it would have made the total price of each “Camera” kit over 100 each. $20 for the camera. $50 - $60 for the lights kit thingy. And then $20 or $30 for an SD card rated for high heat and stuff in BHC AZ. lol This solves that problem at a quarter of the cost.
I will hold off until a month or two after full release. If I don’t hear any “my camera showed up as offline” comments then I may buy one to try out. ![]()
If they would just fix the reliability issues it would go a long way. My single remaining V2 (with daily power cycles via a smart plug) still periodically shows up as “offline” on occasion.
Well no, it’s not yet available in Pink and Fucia so some folks are still upset. And it does not yet support hardwired data either. Can’t please everyone ![]()

Does the Wyze 3 have zoom? Do not see it mentioned anywhere.
It has the same kinda zoom the V2’s have
It has the same ‘digital’ zoom as the V2, with no ‘optical’ zoom. You can’t get optical zoom in a $20 camera. However, there are more expensive cameras on the market that have optical zoom if that is important to you.
