Thanks @StevenA !!! I gave in and bought the 32GB version since it was only $5 more.
This is honestly such a good deal, considering you can just use it in Alexa Show Mode anyway. I think I am going to try your trick above though, just for fun. ![]()

Nice! I haven’t even setup the one I bought 10 days ago. Been really busy. I might be less busy soon ![]()
Finally getting around to installing this. Found out it doesn’t fit in the case I had from the previous model I had that broke (the one I got is longer and skinnier). Also found out it has Micro-USB instead of USB-C ![]()
Looks like I got an 8th gen version. Not a deal breaker though, though it looks like it is just barely the first “restricted” version where Amazon locked down th4e firmware so they can’t fully block OTAs, use full custom launchers, remove lockscreen ads, or disable some system apps. Dang, kind of wish I got Gen 7 or earlier for no restrictions, or a later version that gave USB. I got the worst option with no USB-C and has restrictions. Go figure. ![]()
Oh well. Going to set up Fire Toolbox on it anyway…at least as soon as I find a mUSB cord with data capabilities that I can connect to my computer. Will look within the next day or 2. I’m excited to get Google Play on it.
Here is an update on my Fire HD 8 tablet. I am still happy with it. The Wyze app version 2.50 works great.
The Fire HD 8 2020 10th Gen seems to be running Android 9. The Brave browser would not install as it wanted a newer Android version. This is fine since Firefox and the Vivaldi browser are working well for me.
More Woot deals on Fire tablets.
“ Use code FIREFIVE at checkout for an extra $5 off! Limit one coupon use per customer. Valid through 9/14/25 at 11:58pm CT”
Here is a Woot Clearance Corner deal. Android tablet for $17.15. Probably not very fast, but you can’t beat the price.
Amazon is rumored to be releasing a real Android tablet soon, with Google Play pre-installed.
That looks great! 2GB RAM would probably drive me crazy for the type of stuff I like to do, but it would be awesome to use as like a home assistant dashboard or tablet dedicated to something like streaming A specific camera, or for the kids to use. I just barely promised my wife I would severely limit all discretionary spending until we resolve some pending business negotiations or I would probably buy one of these at that price.
Is that promise good until … Black Friday? ![]()
Ugh, IDK. However, temptations even before then include October 24th is Wyze’s anniversary and they always have a huge party for “Wyze week” and release new great products and their biggest discounts of the year and Amazon has recently started doing another prime day period In October as well. I kind of want to get a another computer with a dedicated higher end GPU with more than 12 GB of dedicated vram so that I can run some higher end local AI models. I’ve been having a lot of fun doing that with a GPU that only has 12 GB of dedicated vram. I can only imagine the fun I could be having with more or better and a dedicated system. I might have to wait another year or two on that though. ![]()
I don’t know, I do have a small plausible loophole since I just promised to “limit” discretionary spending… Not stop entirely and maybe argue what’s discretionary.
J/k Technically she didn’t ask me to limit it, was mostly me volunteering while we are figuring out business stuff. We may need to do a personal guarantee on a loan and conserve some capital as a down payment to buy someone out, plus a lot of uncertainty and lawyer fees. So, better safer than sorry until negotiations are resolved.
Here is another Woot deal on a Fire HD 8 Tablet. $19.99 after you use the code “FIREFIVE” valid through 11/22/2025.
I’ll bet that 8th gen Fire HD 8 soon won’t support streaming Wyze cams via the required 3.8.5+ Wyze app.
I have a Fire HD 8 2020 tablet. It has Android 9 on it.
I used the FireToolbox and got the PlayStore on it. From there I installed Firefox and Vivaldi browsers. Via Firefox I was able to grab the Wyze App 2.50 APK file.
App 2.50 is working great on the Fire HD 8.
Hard to say how the above 2018 tablet will do with Wyze.
I’m still running 2.50.9.x on some Android 9, 10, 11 and 12 phones and tablets, mainly to determine when incompatibilities arise with older app versions and newer cam firmware updates and what workarounds exist if any. There soon won’t be any workarounds.
