Wyze camera viewing on tablet

Ok anyone have an success with running the Wyze app on a tablet since new updates and if so what brand? Or specs. I recently had it running on my kids Amazon Fire 10 but after the update now it says not compatible. I decided to order a new tablet and now have returned 3 because each one saS not compatible. I ordered a android each time 11,14 and with ram 3g 8g and still no luck. I don’t want to pay a lot for a viewing only device as that is all I want it for, to view my camera’s on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thsnk you in advance.

If you mean the 3.x app, you need to make sure the tablet is running 64 bit android. The current line of Lenovo tablets should be, and of course more expensive ones like Samsung will be as well.

The really cheap/no name ones will typically be running a stripped down 32 bit android and will not work.

This might be a workaround for you. I have a Fire HD8 tablet. I used the Fire Toolbox to get the PlayStore on the tablet.

From the PlayStore, I downloaded the Firefox browser which allowed me to grab Wyze App version 2.50 from this site.

Wyze App 2.50 is working great on my Fire HD8 tablet which has Android 9. Good luck.

Welcome to the Forum, @debmpetersen!

If one of the tablets you ordered had Android 14 and 8 GB of RAM installed, then I would expect that to be a full 64-bit version of Android, but that’s something I’d want to verify. If your Android variant isn’t giving you that information directly, then you can use a third-party utility to figure that out. I’ve used AIDA64 for that.

I notice that you tagged your topic for Cam Pan v3. If you’re using that particular device and it’s current with its firmware, then I wouldn’t bother trying to access it with an older app version (I’d actually advise against that), as that’s likely to fail. If you absolutely must access that Cam (and some others) with an older Wyze app, then you’ll probably need to downgrade the firmware by flashing it with (an) older version(s). Whether you’re willing to do that is a decision you’ll have to make for yourself.

Yeah at this point I’m sort of not even mentioning 2.x anymore since more and more cams are not working with it (looks like the v4 firmware rolling out is going to break that too).

I will volunteer to be the official forum tester for the App 2.50 and Cam v3 combination. I will make post when this combination stops working.

As I have mentioned before I am happy with this combination and will use it as long as Wyze allows.

FYI, I am on Cam v3 firmware 4.36.14.3497.

I’m still running 2.5 on an old phone, though I don’t use it much anymore. Whenever my v4 goes to the new firmware I can test that one but it is pretty clear in the release notes that it isn’t going to work.

My Panv3s still work with it but there are bugs with waypoints (as I know @crease has seen too). So far they haven’t updated those to the new security yet. So far all my cams (OGs, Panv3s, and a v4) are still working except for the waypoint bug, but that seems like it is going to be changing.

Yeah, even in another recent topic where someone had difficulty viewing Cam Pan v3 I didn’t mention it, though I did mention firmware rollback as a possible solution. Because of the changes Wyze keeps making to some Cams’ firmware and their app requirements, and especially because of the changes they began introducing with VerifiedView and the announcements that surrounded that, I think recommending the v2.50x app for general use is a bad idea, though I understand why some users with some devices and some use cases might continue to find it useful in some applications.

The main useful thing for me at this point is reviewing SD card on the OGs - the 3.5 app is still having issues with that being really slow. But obviously people with 32 bit devices, it was a way to stay up and running. For me, it still is nice to have it on that old phone, however obviously I can’t use/set waypoints. I’m honestly cautious about anything I do with the Panv3s in the old app just to avoid causing an issue. I wouldn’t recommend changing any settings on them at this point through the old app. I think the new v4 firmware will be the next nail in the coffin for 32 bit phones.

I suppose as long as the OGs keep working until they (hopefully) fix the problem, that’s all I ever use it for, and that isn’t all that frequent anymore.

It is nice to have a “tried and true” stable platform when trying to confirm what is causing an issue. I know when I was troubleshooting notification problems it was handy as the old app was being much more consistent with them.

Since OP is investing in a new tablet it definitely makes sense to get one that is 64 bit. I remember in another thread recently someone grabbed an 8 inch lenovo for under $100. Looks like the prices are back up a bit now to around $100 for that size, but they do seem to go on sale frequently.

I have one tablet running the v2.50x app because it won’t run any newer versions of the Wyze app. It’s got Android (Go edition), which I believe is all 32-bit as that’s designed as kind of an “Android lite” for lower-end devices. I also have a v2.50x app installed to run concurrently with current Wyze app versions just because I can, but I don’t remember the last time I actually launched the old app on that device. I just know that when I run that app on my tablet I’m not going to be able to view certain Cams at all.

I think that assurance of a 64-bit tablet running “real”/regular Android (not Fire OS) so that Google Play Store support is included out of the box is likely to be the easiest solution here. I’d be surprised if the earlier-mentioned tablet with 8 GB of RAM (I believe that’s what @debmpetersen was indicating) didn’t run 64-bit Android, but that’s something I’d be inclined to try to confirm.

Hard to say without knowing the brand but there are tons of knock off tablets out there running Go or outdated versions of Android. Wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if there were ones with seemingly decent specs (or maybe even fake specs) out there. But obviously can only guess without knowing the details. Can’t think of any other reason Play Store would say it is not compatible other than 32 bit OS though.

Could Wyze have quietly made App 3.xx require higher Android and/or IOS versions?

Back in 2021, Wyze made it so you needed to be on Android 7 and IOS 12 or higher to update Apps in the PlayStore and Apple App Store.

This shouldn’t be the case with this present situation, I don’t think. I have WyzeBeta 3.10.0.b743 running on Android 10.

Yeah there are definitely plenty of things a developer can enforce, but the 3.x app supports Android 10 and up, I can’t imagine any new tablets are shipping with less than that.

I tried to run the app you suggested on my Fire HD 10 and it would not let me install it.I do have another tablet but its an Android go as you also mentioned, so I was able to run it on that one and it says it is a 64 but but in ( 34 bit mode) just like that.I am not a tech person and have no clue what any of this means. I did try to install the Wyse app on that tablet also and it still says its not compatible also.I didn’t figure it was on that one,but when you mentioned you had that I gave it a try. I also want to note that the Fire HD 10 will not allow me to download Google play store or Chrome any longer so I don’t know if I messed something up when I did a factory rest a month ago to clean it out, because my grandchildren had it so full of crap I decided the easy and fast way was to start all over fresh. I am so upset right now because I had it working and now I can not get it and it was the whole point of me resetting it so I could just use it for the camera’s.

Thank you,but your suggestion also did not work. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

The Fire tablets are locked down by amazon and you can only install approved amazon apps unless you force it using the sideloading method which is cumbersome and probably won’t work with the recent Wyze apps, you’d need to force the old 2.5 app which is gradually losing functionality.

32 bit OS on 64 bit hardware won’t work either.

Like I mentioned, take a look at the tablets offered by Lenovo. They are usually a good value for the price and go on sale fairly regularly. Sometimes the lower end Samsung ones will pop up on a good deal too and that should be plenty also. Onn also has decent cheap tablets but I don’t know if they run Go or another 32 bit OS, or if they’re 64.

I just bought a Samsung Tab S10 Lite. I needed a new low spec tablet I use exclusively for online banking. This came with Android 15 and it immediately updated to Android 16. The S10 Lite was released this year and is suppose to get Android updates through 2032.

Here is a good site I used to search for a tablet with long software support.

Ok thank you.

The A series is what I was thinking of, as they’re usually the cheapest ones, not positive if they’re 64 bit but I would imagine. 8 to 9 inch lenovos can be gotten around $100 and 11 inch up around $150. For someone that is going to use a tablet a lot, the Samsung S series is a worthy upgrade, but for just casual use or monitoring cams, the $300 tag is probably high.

The Onn ones are under $100 even for 11” but I don’t know what android flavor they run.

For the longest time you could get an 8” lenovo for $60 to $80 and 11” for $100 or a bit more. Prices are up some now but still pretty well priced for a basic, capable tablet.
