V3 SD card corrosion, water ingress

I have a V3 mounted outside. Today I noticed I couldn’t access the micro SD card, it said no card installed.
When I took the card out, there were signs of corrosion around the card slot and the contacts on the SD card were corroded. The seal was fully in place before I removed the card.

The camera is less than a year old, has anyone else experienced this?

I would reach out to Wyze to check on that, might be a warranty item:

you can reach them by phone: (206) 339-9646 Available Monday - Friday 4 am - 8 pm PT and Saturday 8 am - 4 pm PT, or online: Wyze.com/support

I have SD Cards in mine and don’t seem to have that issue.

Thanks, I’ll try, I’m in Canada though and I bought mine through Amazon, not sure if they will cover it.

I like the contacting support recommendation.

I am curious, how was the camera mounted? For example, was it upside down? Not saying this would make it have that issue (I have some mounted upside-down without leak issues), I am just curious how to explain so much water… There must be a sealing weakness somewhere in that particular Cam.

The camera mounted with the lens at the 12 o Clock position, straight up.

Amazon! They’ll take anything back. Return it. :grinning:

And that is why we buy from that “evil” company. Customer Service.

I am trying to install a cam (can’t remember which version) and I think I was just holding it upside down and received a message saying that I needed to install it right-side up.

I’ll have to do some more experimenting. That said, it might have been the installation PAPER instructions that said install in the “full upright position”.

Interesting. I have several upside down without issues so far, but I’m sure the IPxx testing for dust & water proofing was done upright only, so I’m sure if it’s outside we should mostly keep it that way if we want to be cautious.

If the uSD rubber pad is closed and the card is fully sealed, I don’t see how water could have penetrated inside.

Me neither.

I had same issue  and they replaced it when they first launched it. I now put white duct tape over the slot over the “seal” so far so good.

Had a similar issue. My v3 stopped working. Took it down and opened up the SD slot. (It was perfectly sealed) and water literally poured out. It’s not water tight at all

Most of mine are under an overhang of some kind, though I realize that isn’t always possible.
A sheet metal cowling could be made easily/cheaply.
Also, you could paint over the SD card area with some kind of glue, like rubber cement, that peals away easily.
Of course, an outdoor camera should be water tight, but I’m suggesting insurance/work-arounds.

I think that I will have to do that as well, seal a waterproof camera.

I wonder how waterproof the speaker holes are maybe thats where water is getting into the cam and then drains out of the sd slot when you open it.

I found this but it is still crazy to have to waterproof a “waterproof” V3 camera the v2 in an aftermarket “Amazon” enclosure was waterproof for years no problems even in outdoor saltwater coast setting.

Great idea, I was going to try and waterproof it myself but I think I’ll just buy one of those.
Thanks.
