Update on Wyze Web View

I almost exclusively rely on the web portal view for streaming cameras 24/7 because I am not on-site. If I didn’t see cameras reconnecting all the time, I wouldn’t recognize them as being Wyze cameras. They constantly reconnect even though there is 100% wifi signal. For example, yesterday, I had one camera showing as “device offline” in the portal the ENTIRE day and night, but when I went to the property, the camera showed up on my phone just fine using my phone. Today, it’s streaming just fine. A second camera was going in and out of “device offline” sporadically all day yesterday. I’ve already invested in a number of TP-Link Deco mesh points to ensure that thorough wifi signal strength, so I’m not about to go an invest in alternate routers as well. But Wyze should integrate the ability to change wifi channels directly on their devices.

Hmm, you make it sound as if you need to be at the same location as your cams in order for the “smart” app to function. You do know that as long as your “smart” phone/tablet/device has internet connectivity, the app will show your cams from anywhere in the world, right?

The WebPortal was a complete afterthought from WYZE after years of customers begging. It sucked upon initial release and still doesn’t match the “smart” app functionality to this very day. Heck, you still can’t hear audio from certain cams. Not only does it not match the “smart” app, it lacks VERY basic capabilities.

Hi @Known1 ,
Yeah, I know the app connects to the cameras from anywhere. My point was not clear. Basically, there are many, many, … maaany occasions when the stream will show on the app but not via the portal. And the reasons that the cameras’ livestreams “fail” in the portal should have far more descriptive reasons so that we can troubleshoot the connection (e.g., interference, lag, server-side issue, router down, etc.)

Web View streams degrade to 360p over time on all cameras (started after new interface update)

Since the recent Web View interface update, live streams on all my cameras start in HD but degrade down to 360p over the course of the session. Refreshing the page forces a new WebRTC connection and instantly restores HD — but it degrades again after some time.
A few details:

Happens across all my cameras, not just one model.
My Wi-Fi is strong and this was not an issue before the Web View update.
I dug into chrome://webrtc-internals while this was happening and found:

Multiple onicecandidateerror events during connection setup
Several failed candidate-pairs before it settles on one working path
The frameHeight stat confirms the stream is stuck at 360 once degraded
bytesReceived_in_bits/s is inconsistent/spiky rather than steady

This looks like a session/connection handling issue in the new Web View (possibly tied to the AWS Kinesis Video Streams WebRTC backend it uses), rather than a local bandwidth problem, since a simple refresh reliably restores full quality.
