Yes… that’s what I found out recently. My friend who’s on Rogers has that same troubled gateway that Comcast uses. Finding that out helped considerably as I can stop troubleshooting knowing that it’s a gateway issue and not a Wyze issue.
Dave still thinks that billion dollar companies like Rogers, Canada’s biggest ISP, give a crap about Wyze cameras not working with a certain model of modem. The response I get from Rogers is to reach out to Wyze for support. It’s a dick swinging contest and Wyze doesn’t have a leg to stand on with the failure of proper design foresight. Show me another camera company that’s having this issue
It’s that gateway… after trying to troubleshot a friend’s camera and only being able to set DMZ on one camera I finally got into a chat with customers on Comcast Xfinity… using the same gateway. I’ve now told her we know the problem and until she gets a different gateway she just has to power OFF-ON the camera remotely to view her live feed on that camera
Not just cameras. Heres the very first example from google. You can find many more at google.com

The XB7 has known issues all over the place. Whether you want to believe that or not, nothing I can do about it. Whether it is the Arris version, the Technicolor version, or both, don’t know, as most people don’t know the difference and that data usually isn’t provided. My guess would be the Arris (XB7-T) as it is using the intel chipset that caused issues with several Arris gateway models.
Cam v4 and OG work fine. Cam v3, Campan v3 and Floodlight v2 don’t. You would think Wyze should know why and fix the software. It is either hardware related, or Wyze just wants you to buy new cameras
Of course. Wyze just wants you to buy new cameras. If they fix old ones nobody will buy new ones.
The v4 and OG use a different streaming protocol than the others you listed. The protocol used by the others is the one the XB7 is blocking incorrectly.
The only way for Wyze to fix it would be to use a different protocol which would likely require replacing hardware in the cameras, which obviously isn’t going to happen when it is just one ISP router causing the problem.
You can also add the Wyze Battery Cam Pro to the list of cams that WORK with the X7 while not connected to WiFi. Almost considered upgrading to X8, but decided to test one of the new cams, and it worked (Prime Day sale…). Came off of Outdoor Cam V1 and V2. Yes, I gave in (sucker), so looks like their ‘strategy’ is for you to upgrade the cameras unfortunately.
It is not in any way part of Wyze’s strategy. These cameras are made by different manufacturers each using different protocols and connecting to different servers. The newer protocol seems to make it through the XB7 (well at least one of the brands of XB7) for many people, but who knows if/when it will start getting blocked.
According to the post by @carverofchoice the newer cameras are using Tencent’s Iotvideo protocol and the older are using ThroughTek’s TUTK protocol. The XB7 seems to block the TUTK one, but it has also been known to block/interfere with some other things with the newer cameras too so you aren’t totally out of the woods necessarily.
It’s been some time since I’ve posted, since receiving my free upgrade from XFINITY changing my XB7 to the XB8.
All generations of WYZE cameras have been and are active and working well.
From V2 PAN TILTS to V4’s it makes no difference in access through the INet for LIVE, EVENTS, or SD review.
I’m located in Houston Metro and still on terrible Coax plant in an MDU.
I believe those parameters serve as a worst case scenario for a test of the system.
Let me preface this by saying I do not work in the industry, but speak from a user only point of view.
I was a very frustrated user!
Not sure what’s going on where each of you are located, but……
Before giving up on WYZE, or falling prey to conspiracy theories, Simply upgrade your XB7 to an XB8.
You may not be a fortunate as I was to receive a free upgrade, but whatever the fee it’s worth it because the XB7 is a terrible unit in the first place.
And the option of purchasing third-party equipment and trying to integrate And manage it for the average user is a Significant investment for the average users both financially and in system management, which is another problem on its own.
I hope relating my experience rather than hypotheticals helps some of you to overcome the difficulties you’re having and stabilize your video network affording you some peace of mind while you’re away from home.
Best Regards
Happy Holidays To All !!!
Since last month, for some unknown reason, the problem has been resolved for all of my cameras. It seems to me that it was a problem with their servers. I purchased a set of Wyze mesh routers in hopes of solving the problem (using xb7 bridge mode) but now I don’t need them and the return window has passed.
Xfinity doesn’t run any “servers” that would impact the XB7. More likely they rolled out a firmware update finally or fixed their security blacklist.
In all honestly personally I’d still use their router in bridge mode and use your own wifi hardware. Far more flexible and you won’t be impacted the next time Xfinity screws something up.
I somehow missed this thread earlier. Some funny reading.
I was referring to Wyze servers if it was confusing.
Wyze servers aren’t related. If it was a server issue it would have affected more than just one model of ISP router.
Well, it’s fixed. They did something and that’s all I care about. I did nothing to fix it.
Yup, all I’m saying is “they” could be your ISP, the router manufacturer, or Wyze, or any combination of them.
Yep… a friend here (in Canada) on Rogers internet with the infamous XB7 has also had everything working perfectly for the past month or two. Not sure if it was a Wyze firmware upgrade or the XB7 firmware upgrade but I’m happy to not save to deal with that troubleshooting nightmare anymore.
I just had this same problem where the app wouldn’t connect the cameras if I was off my local wifi. So I updated the app and that still didn’t work, then I restarted my phone and then I could finally view my cameras when I was only on the cellular network. I could see the camera from the wyze web site, so I knew the camera was working. So something about restarting the phone reset something to make it work.
Why don’t these things simply work???
Maybe you should only use Wyze app, Wyze cameras, Wyze laptops, Wyze cell phone, Wyze ISP, Wyze routers and Wyze SD cards. So you can blame Wyze for ills in the world.
