Still cannot connect to my cameras when not on my home WIFI

Maybe if using Xfinity supplied equipment. I have Xfinity and my own modem/router and have never had any issues viewing my cameras in California from any place in the USA.

Consider the timeline; This issue came after they updated the firmware on XB7. My understanding is that it was working before. Then the problem disappears with XB8. That doesn’t look like "Xfinity are trying to update their services".

It looks more like Xfinity is looking for additional revenue with the upgrade to XB8.

Good Morning All

I’ve seen retorts to my statement that Xfinity will not provide a free upgrade to an X B8.

While I try not to get personal with anyone on this thread with the exception of WYZE corporate, I have to break character on this one.

I have now assisted 2 more friends who have been suffering from this problem obtain a FREE, yes Vector, FREE upgrade to their new XB8’s.

When calling Xfinity you will be greeted by a tier 1 operator who’s job is to make the inexperienced customer accept their rhetoric that an XP8 will not be provided at no cost to customers.

It seems some users Negotiation skills end there…
For all you Xfinity customers reading this thread, do not believe the hype.

After listening to the tier 1 operators reading from his screen responses, simply ask to be transferred to a supervisor and technical service.

Be prepared to explain the history of your usage and approximate dates when you bought your cameras, and the fact that they worked well remotely in the WYZE app.
Then provide them with an approximate date when they began to fail.

Of the 3 FREE XB8 upgrades I have been involved with obtaining, over the last 30 days, one technical service supervisor processed the upgrade request and made it available that afternoon for my friend to pick up.

The other 2, one which was mine Required listening to the technical service department refusal to provide the free upgrade. I immediately asked to be transferred to the RETENTION Dept.

Once connected, I simply explained that there is a known issue involving the XB7’s and should they desire that I continue to be an Xfinity customer that they would need to provide a FREE upgrade to resolve the issue.

Immediately they were provided as they do not want you changing providers and increasing the competitions subscriber numbers.

Two the upgrades also involved friends who were living in MDU’s (Apartments) who had been upsold to 1.2 gig service that the infrastructure in their buildings could not provide.

When RETENTION was made aware of the fact, they immediately gave them the FREE upgrade along with significant account credits and lowered their level of service(and their bill) commiserate to what their location was able to provide.

These statements are not conjecture, they are facts.

If you take the time to pursue your request vigorously, knowing that cash is king to corporate America, you will emerge victorious.

I was fortunate that over 30 days ago someone on this thread was kind enough to post the truth of their experiences and I’m very appreciative as it has resolved my issues and given me peace of mind while traveling.

I can only hope that this does the same for some of you.

Spending a couple hours today going through these steps may well allow you to achieve your goal as it has for us.

After the days or weeks spent trying other options, This process has turned out to be time well spent.
Also, has it has been replicated at least twice after mine it proves it was not a one off fluke…

I wish all a speedy resolution to their issues whether Xfinity customers or not, this has been a most painful learning experience!

I will continue to post updates as my ability to view my cameras at home from LA has been stable, consistent, and flawless since the upgrade and deletion, then reinstallation of the Wyze app and re-provisioning of each camera while on DATA ONLY with Wi-Fi turned off.

Best Wishes to all.
Should anyone follow this process and find it successful, please take a moment to advise the group of your outcome.

I have Rogers (Canada) that they also use the infamous XB7. Way before they’ve upgraded the firmware that rendered Wyze cams useless I returned their piece of crap combo and got me a Technicolor TC4400 a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and an Eero WiFi 6 mesh router. At the cottage I have Eastlink as an ISP, I disabled the built in router and left the combo in a bridge mode as the supplied modem is half dissent and added an Eero WiFi 6 mesh as well. Haven’t looked back.

@IMRIPNITUP - Sorry to say, but unfortunately, your post with details of effort needed will fail with some who have no desire to help themselves, just continue to point fingers and continue a dialogue with negative results. But it’s their choice and their freedom.

Having worked for Comcast many years ago while I was going through College, I can confirm that what you reported is exactly how they have operated for decades and that your outlined strategy is effective for accomplishing the goal. You did a great job explaining to someone how to accomplish this.

I tried that approach with my previous ISP. It didn’t work. They keep raising my rate too fast, like 3 times in last year. There’s a 5G/millimeter utility pole right across the street but I didn’t want all the trouble of reconfiguring all my network equipment.

Finally I decided that the switchover is inevitable anyway and pulled the trigger. Better speed and much cheaper, too. So the old ISP decides to send someone to wake me up in the middle of a Sunday siesta; rang the doorbell to ask me why I switched!

:+1: own equipment will pay for itself. Gateway and mesh and never looked back. Not worth the aggravation. You can obsolete your equipment on your own timeline.

Speaking of Rogers, I will probably never go back to them unless they offer FTTH to my place. I used to have their coax Cable internet and their network for my area was horrendous. I had practically weekly outages especially on weekends. That national wide outage on July 2022 takes the cake and I think I got like $3 credited back lol.

I’m currently on Distributel which are owned by Bell at 500 Mbps FTTH. Very stable and I haven’t noticed any internet outages.

I should’ve been more clear. I’ve been with Coextro for over a year now. They use Roger’s infrastructure. Before that I was with TeckSavy, same infrastructure. It’s funny how both Coextro and TeckSavy have better service than Rogers ever had at fraction of Rogers price.

Unfortunately, I leave in a very old area of the city where FTTH is not available, so I am stuck with hybrid fibre 1Gigabit up and 50Mbs down over coax cable. That is the best I can get. So far so good, haven’t had any issues except couple weeks ago a mouse had chewed on one of cables in the pedestal, so I was having dropped packets. After calling Coextro they sent technician the next day and he replaced the cable, and all is good again.

Isn’t that the other way around?

I’m also in the section of the city with old infrastructure. I have to live with a single monopolistic ISP for a long time until things opened up little in the last years.

Interestingly, the city and Earthlink had an agreement to provide fiber in the area as early as 30 years ago. Lawsuits managed to stall that project and to this day, the fiber running at the back of my residence is dark.

Behave old man!

Vector, I think you nailed it. My sentiments exactly.
Time to cut my losses and move onto a better camera company.

I can agree with that. I just feel like Xfinity and Wyze are in their little Mexican stand-off and we are caught in the middle.

Do you expect Wyze to be in contact with every ISP in the world?

That is great. If you have hours to spend. If you have the technical skill set. If you’re not 99% of the average mom and pop customers. Sounds like you should run a consulting service for this.

What would the approach be if Dell laptops didn’t work with just Xfinity?
What would the approach be if gmail didn’t work with just Xfinity?

SImple, you either get a different laptop or switch provider.

Simple again, you either switch email platform or switch provider.

Well good luck with telling the average non technical person to do that. So your solution is to tell someone to spend $1`,500 - $2K on a new laptop? WOW. That’s remarkable. Why not just tell people they’re holding it wrong?

Not everyone lives in our tech world. I have that high end LAN/WAN skill set. But I am in the point of my career I am not spending hours fixing, coming up with a work around for a product. Cause here’s the thing: what’s not to say this new Xfintiy router isn’t updated and again blocks certain ports that Wyze cameras use? Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it…

PS: I have a 20 port managed PoE Dlink switch in my basement with Dlink PoE Access Points in my home. So do not tell me to just replace equipment.
