Service Advisory 02/16/2024

On Friday 2/23/24 @ 3AM EST :

All events stopped for 18 cameras.

9 Cameras show as offline.

Not Working

7 Cam V3

1 Pan V2

1 Cam V2

At Noon 2/23/24:

Rebooted cameras and reset router:

Now cameras are on line and events flowing.

Now this is the 2nd week that this problem starts on Friday at 3 AM EST.

Does Wyze release new software at that time to cause this to re-occur???

Lasted for about 1 hour - then events stop and 9 cameras go off-line !!!
A repeat of last Friday!

I went to reolink and got the WiFi NVR so Iā€™m not reliant on someone elseā€™s cloud problemsā€¦very happy with my decision

What model did you go with and does it come with cameras? Iā€™m seriously thinking going the Reolink route, just not educated enough which way to go.

The problem persists - 02-23-2024. Wyze app continues to drop a cam (V2 cams, Pan Cams, and OG) and when you reconnect the cam that drops signal, the cam refreshes and then the app crashes. Rinse and repeat for three hours as of this posting. I really wish Wyze or AWS would correct this problem, itā€™s been going on for FAR too long. I am seriously considering spending a stupid amount of money to replace my Wyze devices. I have 5 cams, a motion detector, 4 plugs, and two lightbulbs. I have been a beta tester since it has been offered and provide all of the input I can to help, have told literally EVERYONE I know they ā€œreally should get a Wyze device, theyā€™re so user friendly and dependableā€ ā€¦ not so much now. Put that aside and at the end of the day I have a security system that isnā€™t dependable. Itā€™s likely all my Wyze stuff will wind up on ebay within the next 30 days.

I have some of Reolinkā€™s older wireless Argus cameras when they did a crowd funding campaign and besides that they go through batteries quickly, I have a hard time connecting with them to turn on/off the PIR sensor. I have a bunch of them but only use two now. But because they are another Chinese company, support takes days and often the translation requires clarification which takes even more days of back and forth emails. Overall they have been a tad less frustrating than Wyze cameras.

So I want to make an update to my recent post: After spending many hours researching alternatives to Wyze cams, I really couldnā€™t find any cams of which I was willing to invest. I almost went the Eufy route, but before investing that much money I looked at another possible issue - my WIFI. I have Spectrum. My home entertainment center is very high-end, I run a custom PC and high-end audio. While my PC for this setup as well as my home office setup are hard-wired to my router, the problem being WIFI was just not something I considered at the time - but then looked at the many smart devices and this includes 5 various Wyze cams, 5 or 6 Wyze plugs, several Wyze bulbs, Govee lamps, Gosun bulbs, donā€™t forget the Alexa devices, a couple tablets, and then of course several cel phones, and bedroom smart TVs. Turns out I have at least 25 devices begging for attention from the Spectrum WIFI router.
Down the WIFI router rabbit hole I dove and ended up buying a TP-Link Deco AX3000 WiFi 6 Mesh System(Deco X55) three pack setup. I installed this on Tuesday the 27th and have had almost NO signal drop from any of my Wyze cams - even the OG mounted outside has remained pretty stable dropping signal just a few times. The Wyze app that I have running 24/7 on a tablet occasionally crashes but nothing like it was before the new WIFI setup.
Had I gone with plan A and replaced all of my Wyze cams itā€™s likely I would be having the same signal dropping problems as it seems the weak link was my WIFI router from Spectrum - just not robust enough to handle 25 some odd smart devices. I felt I should share this with the community as something to look at when considering replacing the Wyze cams - signal problems may be due to the WIFI setup and not the cams themselves.

Thanks for the update and the write up!

A ā€œrunning jokeā€ is that ā€œitā€™s your wifiā€, but in all seriousness it actually probably is! I was in the same boat as you where my main wifi source was a ISP provided all in one modem/router. I had horrible wireless connections when I started to pack on the Wi-Fi devices. I switched all my wifi connections to a high end access point and mounted it into the best central high location in my house I could and that fixed all my issues.

I had an older AP that was dedicated for my OG but it still had a weak signal and just wasnā€™t getting the job done. I am SO happy I decided to upgrade my WIFI to a mesh system and HIGHLY recommend the one I mentioned earlier - itā€™s so robust and with three routers I have a plethora of connection options. I am using just one as the main router and the other two as access points. The TP-Link Deco app makes setup so easy I had all three set up in about 20 minutes. Sure, you have to start from scratch with the devices that use WIFI, but it is so worth it. Staying a Wyze device fan!!

Nice job payupyou!!! I also went with TP-Link Archer AX73 over a year ago and love it. I have over 20 cameras that span V-2, V-3, Pan Cam V-3, Doorbell Cam, and OG and have absolutely no issues with dropped connections or network related issues since upgrading.

I will add a warning note if/when using a VPN. I found that the OGā€™s work one way with VPN and the V-x cams work differently. To make them all ā€œhappyā€ I ended up setting Wyze as an exception in the VPN settings and poof all issues went away. I use NordVPN, but I would imagine any VPNs have a potential to cause issues with Wyzeā€™s connectivity.

Glad you were able to get your system working successfully!
Iā€™m also a long time supporter of Wyze.

For anyone else thinking about changing routersā€¦ In most cases, when you switch routers, if you set up the new router with the exact same Wifi SSID (Wifi name) and password, your devices will reconnect without needed to be setup again.

I donā€™t have experience having the cameras connected through a VPN, but I can tell you that Wyze blocks logins to the app and website when connected through most VPNs. You will get an error message like this:
image
I guess I understand the security logic, but in one way itā€™s a security degradation in that if youā€™re on a public wifi, it forces you to turn off your VPN to log in.

The workaround is to connect via cellular (or cellular hotspot), log into the app or website, then switch back to the wifi VPN. Once you are already logged in, the app and website function properly under the VPN.

Is anyone else still having issues of events not recording at all or disappearing from the events list?

Lots of us have been through almost the exact same thing as you. I used to have to reboot my Wyze devices all the time, It drove me crazy knowing that some people had a nearly flawless experience, but I wasnā€™t, so I started going through all the possible things that could be different and affecting my experience differently. I finally made a list of things I collected and found that make a big in one person having a bad experience vs another having a near flawless experience. For anyone else still having issues, note that some people have no problems even though we use the same company, so consider that some or all of the following things may be why itā€™s not working for you even though it does for others:

Since 12:00 a.m. cst march 1, 2024 my battery cam pros have stopped recording and stopped notifications for events. It has been this way all day. I have reset from the app. Powered off from the app. Pulled the batteries. Reset my router. Ive done ever troubleshooting step I can think of including hard resetting the cameras. Removing and re adding cam plus subscriptions. Logging out of the app unistalling it and reinstalling it. I have no clue what else to do. Bouth have a consistent 2 bars of signal and occasionally 3. Any ideas?

So now that I have an EXTREMELY robust WIFI setup (the mesh as previously mentioned), the Wyze app continues to crash. Same problem as before, one of the cams (usually the OG) drops signal and when reconnecting the app goes back to the main menu. I select the group, they all connect, then one drops, and another, and back to the main menu. Frustrating to say the least.
It would be fantastic if Wyze would rebuild the app to correct this because I really do like the equipment but this constant crashing is beyond annoying and I find myself once again looking for alternatives to the Wyze cams due to this problem. A darn shame too as I just added several more Wyze Color bulbs and do like having a ā€œone app controlā€.

The app return to main menu seems like an app issue more than a camera issue. Since you first posted here there have been several app updates. What actual app version are you currently using? And beta or production? And what device are you using the app on?

Iā€™ve been a Wyze beta tester since I got my first Wyze cam (July 3, 2019) and the option to be a beta tester became available. All of my devices that have the Wyze app installed are using the most up to date version avail on the Play Store. The devices are two Samsung S10s and a Fire Tablet. The Fire tablet I use as a dedicated monitor since it sits nicely on my coffee table. However - I have used one of my S10s in the same fashion (with the cam group view on 24/7) and it does the same thing as the Fire tablet.

ā€œUp to dateā€ doesnā€™t tell the full story and itā€™s best to tell the actual app versions.

Like now, there was an app update pushed a few days ago, but itā€™s not available to me yet as the roll out appears slow. If I were to say ā€œup to dateā€ (as it displays in my play store, this would be incorrect as the update is not available to me yet and everyone here would think I was on the new recent update, which I am not.
