Introducing Wyze Video Doorbell - 9/22/20

Will this integrate w/ Google Smart Displays? In other words, will it be possible to have the doorbell video feed automatically pop-up on a smart display or Chromecast or Android TV device?

That will probably make or break the deal for me.

The flat mounting plate is 2 5/8 inches center to center, If you use the wedge, there are slots that go up to 2 3/8 inches. They are slotted, up/down and left/right.

I haven’t tested the doorbell specifically, but I can tell you that Wyze has paired other cams to pull up on google displays and it is pretty terrible, we’re talking 40 seconds or even longer to even load (some have taken more than 2 minutes, not infrequently), and then the “live feed” is ridiculously lagging with a huge sync issue. It was so bad that I quit streaming to my google devices months ago.

Now google did release some news in the last month or 2 that they were going to make it easier for 3rd party doorbells to sync to their devices now with more options…so it sounds like it was partially google’s fault (only having great support for their own cameras or special deals for certain companies, but not everyone else, including not Wyze), and it may get better, but man it was really terrible even when it worked back when I tried it…but it did work.

For what it’s worth, lots of people said their streams to Alexa were pretty good.

I’m optimistic that it will turn out to work well eventually after Google announced they were addressing the issue in general, and if so, you can probably count on Wyze making it available since they already did with their other cams.

What voltage is needed for the dorrbell please? Hoping that I don’t need to buy a new transformer

Power Method for doorbell

Hardwire required: 16V-24V AC, ≥10VA

Power with existing doorbell-chime circuit, or use a standalone transformer and wires.

(I already know you decided it’s not for you, I’m not trying to convince you, this information is also helpful for others)

From complaints I’ve read about Ring and other video doorbells, if they don’t bypass them then they are running primarily on battery power, and there are often issues with the battery dying, recharging it, etc. Lots of people complain about these models being a big pain. Or you need to run a second wire that is always connected, which ends up being too complicated for a lot of people who want a simple solution they don’t have to hire an electrician to come install for them. Additionally, making it primarily battery powered which would raise the price significantly, maybe double it. The whole point was to keep the price as low as possible on this first launch. They might make other ones later to fit needs for battery powered, second wiring, peephole or whatever else…but I think it was smart to make the first one as simple as possible and as low price as possible. This launch will be something the vast majority of people can afford and set up themselves…other tweeks for smaller niche markets and niche needs are something they can potentially address later…but then is starts to confuse people, like with all the different Ring doorbells, most people only know of “Ring” and not which does what and how to make it wired or wireless the exact way you want, the average person just wants it consistent and easy to understand and set up.

At least that’s my take on why they went with a bypass. You can always set up some wiring yourself or pay an electrician to come make it work so both work that way. Lots of people do that for other companies’ Video doorbells too.

I really like this product @UserCustomerGwen
It would be great to see what the Amazon delivery people have left on my front step. :slightly_smiling_face:
I also like that this feels like a WYZE product, unlike headphones and scales.

I just pre-ordered but have a specific question on the chime. The doorbell/cam will be installed at my farm gate about 1/3 mile from the house. I have wifi but will the chime link to anything I can I stall in the house?

The scale was the first Wyze product I ever bought and the very thing that actually caught me in their funnel to come to Wyze in the first place. After that I started buying cams, then sensors until now I have over 50 wyze devices.

For me, the Scale is the epitome of a Wyze Product…inexpensive with TONS of features, works great, and is a smart home device. It’s not a cam or security related, but I might even venture to say it is my favorite Wyze product so far. Works awesomely for me and was exactly what I was looking for at a quarter the price of others that offered all the same things I wanted, and now even offers more than the others I was considering. I’d say it was a home run…I bet there’s others with the same story. A lot of long time Wyze people rag on the scale, but I think it’s incredibly awesome. 5 stars easy.

Well this was something I was hoping for but i need a wedge. My door bell is 90’s to my door and in a hallway like entrance…

the second thing is it seems Wyze is pushing us to need to pay for cloud storage, while the cost is still low, if this doesnt have an sd card, will a new wyze pro v3 camera that eventually comes out not have an SD card? and force me to pay for online cloud services, scary thought. I have 3 cameras to start my wyze stuff this year using sd cards, was planning to add 4 more…thats almost 30 /mo if i didnt have the optional sd cards and wanted continuous recording…

Why would i pick this doorbell over the alternative ones. Heck i could just go with amcrests, at least that has a way to connect into my existing doorbell system and still have a sd card + wedge.

Will the doorbell sensor and button push be able to trigger sensor videos to record a clip upon detecting motion?

Well there ya go. I never thought about that. Just assumed everyone started with a camera.

I started with the cam, and i agree that the scale (as well as the band and headphones) seem out of their lane…however the scale is the most high end product i have gotten from them - completely agree with @carverofchoice on everything he said about it…and it makes me curious as to what product they are going to mainstream next :star_struck:

I was about to pre-order it and boom no micro sd card with 24/7 recording … waited 2 years for it to come and sadly have to pass on it.

Wyze doorbell… Cheap but disappointing that it does not have a SD card for local storage . This seams to be the path that Wyze it taking in order to eventually create a ongoing paid storage service .
Wyze why not an SD card for local storage ? All of your other cameras have local storage .

D’oh! I just got a video doorbell delivered today from The 'Zon. (No not a Ring)
Oh well no matter; Wyze VDB requires power, I don’t have that so I need battery-powered.

Any plans to sell extra Chimes to spread around the house & back yard?

I often have people over (eg: babysitter) without the app on their phone who might not hear a single chime placed in the middle of the house. My current dumb wireless doorbell has 3 chimes placed so you can’t miss a visitor.
