Introducing Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell - Released 10/21/2024

Will there be an option to change the LED color from purple? Will there be brightness options for the LED? Thank you.

In my previous post  I linked to a FAQ in the Help Center that indicates existing household doorbell wiring can be used to power the chime and allow the chime to ring the home’s existing mechanical chime. The unboxing video illustrates this latter point, which I really like.

For what it’s worth, another Help Center article indicates that this model has the same power requirements as Video Doorbell v2, so I’m glad to see that, as well.

If by “all those wiring mods” you’re referring to the Chime Controller that is included with Video Doorbell v2, then I’d again refer you to my previous post, which indicates that the Chime Controller isn’t (yet) available as a separate accessory, so if you have a Video Doorbell v2, you’d continue to use that model’s Chime Controller with the new Duo Cam Doorbell. I hope they’ll release the Chime Controller as a separate accessory at some point, though.

:crossed_fingers:

I also had to modify my Video Doorbell v2 mount to angle downward and show packages (again, I linked to this in my previous post), so this second camera idea really appeals to me.

Other things I like (from reading about this and watching the unboxing video):

  • Moving the microSD card slot location to the inside/back of the unit for better protection is a plus, as is requiring some kind of tool (I imagine a paperclip or something similar would do in a pinch) to remove the camera unit from the mount. These features seem like big improvements for security.
  • The recording review timeline UI looks pretty slick.

Questions:

  1. The unboxing video notes that this has “compatibility with your favorite smart assistant”, and the product page indicates integrations with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT, so will Google Home natively detect a doorbell button press with this model and allow Google Nest (Home) devices (smart speakers, smart displays) to be used for announcements without a bridge/workaround like many of us do using Wyze Plug with Video Doorbell v2? If so, is the button press exposed to Google Home as an available Starter for Household Routines?
  2. The unboxing video indicates that it’s launching in two colors, but I see only the black on the product page at this time, so when will the silver version be available?

I second the availability of the silver version! Not buying till that is available!

If you leave the battery in AND connect Duo Doorbell to the wiring, are there battery protection like current laptop model to use wired power as primary to reduce wearing out the battery?

I like to point out that this is useful against security intrusion attempt that try cut your wired power to defeat the recording video doorbell (like using a WiFi jammer to defeat the wireless camera that does not have local SD card recording capability!)

That’s a great question, too, because that’s how I’d want to use it: power it with the existing AC wiring with the idea (hope?) that this would maintain the battery’s charge and that the battery would be able to take over and power the cameras for microSD recording during an outage. That seems like a good entry for the FAQ.

This picture made me chuckle. If the person detection is as "fast"as on the rest of the camera line up, the package will be gone by the time it’s all said and done.

When will it be available in silver or white?

It says it can be hard-wired too.

We need white. Currently have the DB pro from day one. Def don’t want a black lump on my white door trim. Is the DB duo pro in white with 4k coming out Friday

Is it compatible with the online view or does it not work like the other doorbell cameras?

So they’re finally doing HomeKit and Siri?

Also wondering about the mount. I remember fidgeting around installing the mounting bracket for my Video Doorbell Pro and would prefer to not remove its mount. Curious if this new Wyze Duo Doorbell can just be swapped with the previous mounting bracket and little power line adapter thingies.

Can you provide the actual doorbell dimensions? The website under Duo Tech Specs listed dimensions appears to be the packaged box.
Dimensions * 6.7in x 5.1in x 1.8in (170mm x 130mm x 45mm)

Is there a comparison page that compares all three different doorbell product lines from Wyze? I’m confused because the Video Doorbell Pro is older but pricier.

Wait, so it works with the chime controller, but one isn’t included and it’s not available to buy stand alone. You’d have to purchase a doorbell v2? Did I read that correctly?

No, Google still hasn’t opened up the API for doorbell presses to Wyze yet.
My understanding is that Wyze will send the stream to Google Home and Alexa with a Picture in Picture of the 2 lenses, like the top lens will be full screen and the bottom lens will be PIP in the bottom right corner.

I’m told an Employee on Facebook said early 2025 for the Silver/grey and for the chime sold separately.

I just ordered one of these. It was a better deal than I expected. Besides the introductory rate, it had free shipping and said I’d get another $10 in store credit for ordering something over $75, so all in all, the price was actually $79.98 if you take that $10 store credit into account…though I had to pay the whole $89.98 upfront, it’s cool that it’s actually a little cheaper than I expected. $79 for this dual lens VDB with SD card plus a universal chime that works with every Wyze camera is pretty cool.

Can’t wait for the chimes to be sold separately.
