Introducing Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell - Released 10/21/2024

A Wyze employee elsewhere said they will eventually have standalone versions without this wireless chime included in the bundle. But yes, these new Duo Cam Doorbells all work with a wired mechanical chime too. So now there are 2 Wyze Doorbells that can control a mechanical chime: the v2 doorbell and now this Duo Cam Doorbell.

Both will also work with this wireless chime that currently comes with the Duo Cam Doorbell. And they will work at the same time with both a Wired Mechanical chime while still also working with this wireless chime.

I’m wondering about this as well.

I’m guessing like how you can configure the mechanical chime’s ā€œmodeā€, With this new doorbell, you get the option to choose to use mechanical and/or the wireless chime if you wired this up?
Or does wiring it up disable the wireless chime option?

TouchƩ.

That’s my understanding, yes—or you just repurpose your Video Doorbell v2 Chime Controller (if you already have one) by leaving it in place and swapping out only the doorbell camera unit itself. I imagine this latter was their thinking that a lot of people might do, but that’s just speculation on my part.

I’d really like to see Wyze step up their ā€œaccessoriesā€ game with the Chime Controller and Macro Lens Adapter (from the Bird Feeder) sold separately. :crossed_fingers:

My other thought—and, again, this is only speculation—is that someone might be able to connect the Duo Cam Doorbell to AC power without the Chime Controller and still have it ring a home’s internal mechanical chime. Assuming the Duo Cam Doorbell’s button actually acts like a regular ā€œdumbā€ doorbell button and physically closes a switch to complete a circuit, then that might also work, because I’ve read reports elsewhere on the Forum about users installing Video Doorbell v2 without the Chime Controller and having success with that. Maybe that’s part of Wyze’s thinking in not including it, too? :man_shrugging:

Boo, Google! :-1:

(I still like running stuff through Google Home, but dang!)

That actually sounds kinda cool. I’d like to see that demonstrated.

Oof! That’s not what Kyle said in the video!

You also have a third option of ā€œCameras as Chimeā€ if you also have Wyze Cam models that support this feature.

My expectation would be that all three options could be simultaneously selected, because ā€œCameras as Chimeā€ works with Video Doorbell v2 even when I have the home’s mechanical chime enabled and functioning, but that’s a good question, too.

Does this part of the unboxing video answer that question? I know that he’s saying ā€œWyze Lockā€, and I’m also aware that Lock and Lock Bolt are two different products, but I don’t have experience with either, so I don’t know if this helps or not. :man_shrugging:

ā€œCamera as chimeā€ is a cool feature and goes to show how an ecosystem can really complement its products.

Sorry if this has been answered, but will the chime from a Wyze Video Doorbell Pro work? After comparing tech specs I would be open to swapping out the Video Doorbell Pro with a new Duo Cam Doorbell, but would prefer if I didn’t have to buy a new/separate chime.

That would not appear to be the case according to this part of the unboxing video. My understanding of Chime Pro is that it uses a Bluetooth connection to work with Video Doorbell Pro. The Chime included with Duo Cam Doorbell is the new Wi-Fi Chime and actually gets a Wi-Fi connection to your home network (if you watch the whole unboxing video, you’ll see Kyle set it up as a separate device in the Wyze app), and that gives it some real versatility to work as a notification device with other Wyze cameras you might want to link it to.

:+1:

It seems to be getting more stable/usable over time, too. I like having it enabled on a Cam OG that I keep in the garage, and I read recently on the Forum that someone’s seeing it on Cam v3s now.

I would have bought a few as well, but unfortunately I just can’t do the black as it’s far too large a contrast next to the doorway. Silver (nickel) or White are much less eye-catching and blend with the entryway much more readily.

Additionally - I have friends using the Doorbell Pro who would love this but live in condos and apartments that dictate a specific color scheme (silver/nickel) for any door accessories - and black 100% in violation of those rules.

Pretty sure the sales will pickup when you release the silver (or even white).

Funny, when they released white versions… a good many people said the same if they would release a black version.

Fair point. I’m just happy silver is an option. Though I’m also hoping it’s not leaning toward polished chrome.

That’s what makes the world go round. Neighbors have black cars, but having had one 45 years ago I wouldn’t take a free one. Although they look amazing for the 10 minutes after a wax job. My black cat is amazing and I wouldn’t necessarily want him in a different color.

The measurements of this device say it’s 6.7"L x 5.1" W X 1.8" D?
That 5.1" seems too wide for the doorbell device, and I’d like a clarification on that. Every video I have watched on the official channel (the unboxing especially) the doorbell does NOT seem that wide. Maybe the 5.1" refers to the chime width?

I believe a chime controller is only NEEDED for digital chimes anyway. Lots of people, including myself have used VDBv2 without a chime controller on mechanical chimes totally fine.

The chime controller has the added benefit of giving extra surge protection to the VDB, but if you are concerned about power surges, you can always get something like a fuse to put between the wires going to the VDB and that should give you the needed protection.

But yes, that does seem rather absurd to suggest people buy a VDB v2 in order to get a chime controller for the Duo Cam Doorbell. I am going to bring this up in the AMA. They need to sell that thing separately.

$90 seems to be the retail price and not an introductory rate unless you are just referring to the $10 store credit.

In all the years they have released new products, they almost always go up in price after the initial buying period cools down.

Part of the reason for this is likely psychological and platform algorithmic strategy…so they can put it back ā€œon saleā€ during high consumerism periods like holiday sales and have other partner platforms promote it as a big sale.

Of course, I don’t work for or speak for Wyze, I am just saying how things have almost always been done over the last 4+ years since I started paying attention to their launches. But it’s quite possible you are correct and that this could be the default rate. I just suspect it is the introductory offer, but have no special inside information on that. :+1:

Yeah, good point. This could be what they have decided to do instead this time = just sell it at the standard price and make introductory special be a store credit. That would explain everything quite well. I hope that is the case. Very good point. I think you may be right about that. I’m surprised they didn’t advertise that more strongly.

Thanks! That was the question I was going to post. I’ll be sure to up vote it.

Is it Matter compatible, because I’m pretty sure Wyze said they were all about Matter compatibility.

I would guess that it isn’t, because I don’t think cameras are a supported part of the standard (yet), but that seems like a good thing to ask about in the AMA to stress the interest in this to Wyze and encourage them toward compliance/adoption when that part of the standard is developed.

I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that they are no longer a member of the Matter alliance and they had no plans to support it at this time, mainly because cameras weren’t included in the initial standard.

Even though there are at least 17 non-camera devices that Wyze sells are part of the current standard, including:

Air purifiers (Wyze Air Purifier)
Door locks (Wyze Lock Bolt, Wyze Lock)
Light bulbs and lamps (Wyze Bulb Color, Wyze Bulb White, Wyze Light Strip, Wyze Light Strip Pro, Wyze Floor Lamp)
Light switches (Wyze Switch)
Plugs (Wyze Plug, Wyze Plug Outdoor, Wyze Surge Protector)
Robot vacuums (Wyze Robot Vacuum)
Safety and security sensors (motion, contact, leak detectors)
Thermostats and other HVAC controllers (Wyze Thermostat)

My guess is they didn’t want to spend the money and resources on development for Matter and that’s why they ultimately backtracked on their plans to support it.
