Introducing Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell - Released 10/21/2024

Wyze announces these releases knowing fully well that it takes Google a while to make them available. Wyze is so deep in bug quagmire that it can’t even put up a server to make these releases available directly, like it does now for older firmware versions.

Thank you for taking the time to reply with an update and for participating in @drum_buster37’s science! :upside_down_face:

I’m glad to know that it’s working out better for you, and I think information like this is a benefit to the community.

Installing a vdb duo to replace a db.v2 and you don’t want another hole in your siding? The holes on the mounting backplate of the v2 are 2 ⁹/¹⁶ " in distance. From the bottom hole on the duo mounting backplate, measure up 2 ⁹/¹⁶" and drill a new hole. I suggest the measure from the bottom hole because the terminal screws are on the bottom of the v2 and top of the duo if you are going to connect the home built-in chime. This way you maintain the height integrity of the installed duo. Of course. You need to have long enough wires and I strongly recommend using the extension connection wires. The wire nuts fit nicely under the siding if you have it. You may have to expand the entry hole to insert the excess wire and wire nuts. Easier if the wires are cut out from the outer covering and loose to better maneuver inside the wall and/or siding hole.

The fit is snug to the wall or siding and the top of the backplate and unused original screw hole are not overly exposed. My front and back duos are mounted in this manner. Will post screenshots if requested.

Recommend a 1/8 or 3/32 drill bit for new hole if you decide to use this modification.

So we have had a streak of cold weather, temps not getting above 27F, and I think it’s killed this doorbell. It no longer will connect to wi-fi, no matter what. Tried resetting, taking the battery out, and putting it back in. And a variety of other troubleshooting steps. I’m seriously considering returning this thing, because I need a reliable doorbell camera. Where can I put in a ticket, I can’t seem to find it on the website anymore?

This is how I prefer to submit tickets (you can click/tap to expand this):
  1. Visit the Help Center: https://go.wyze.com/help[1]
  2. Click into the “AI-powered search” box in the middle of the page and enter create ticket.
  3. Click Yes, that is correct.
  4. Repeat Step #3. (:face_with_symbols_over_mouth: UGH!)
  5. Click No, I do not like chatbots.
  6. Click This is about a product.*
  7. Click Other.*
  8. Click Create Ticket
  9. Enter your contact details and a brief issue description (include a Log ID if you have one) and click Submit.

     * Make your own appropriate/relevant choices here.[2]

It doesn’t really matter how brief the description is. Wyze’s system will generate an e-mail message to you automatically with a Wyze Ticket number, and you can just reply to that message from your e-mail client and add as much detail as you want.

They used to have a full-page ticket submission form, but that disappeared several months ago.

  1. This might be a good one to bookmark. ↩︎

  2. I’m demonstrating my typical path. The number of steps will likely be the same and result in the identical endpoint regardless of the choices you make. ↩︎

I can also confirm the doorbell add-on will stop the phantom chime issue.

Looks like there’s no way to take a photo from the Duo? I wanted to take a photo of a delivery and I don’t see a way to do that.

When you highlight the live video, there will be 3 dots on the right side (More). Click that and you will be presented with a “Take Photo” action.

Same old Wyze; easter egg mentality.

Ever seen Samsung’s edge utility? there’s a white line (probably about 2 pixels wide and 2 inches high) on the right edge of the display. Swipe it left and you see additional controls.

They don’t need to copy this one in particular, but there should be an indicator that there are hidden buttons somewhere.

That is what happens when they don’t hire UI Designers and they use programmers to design the interface. The old adage stands: Jack of all trades, master of none.

Don’t want to ruffle feathers but 3 lines or 3 dots in various arrangements is a very common “HERE IS A MENU” visual, across many apps, software, platforms, OS, etc. Google chrome uses three vertical dots

With that said, however, the Wyze one is easly to get lost. It doesn’t stand out like the other icons they have shown at the left and center

The screen capture shows the 3 dots. But the catch is that the 3 dots only appear for 3 seconds or so, and if you weren’t looking at that portion of the screen, you’d miss it.

So it’s practically hidden as well. Moreover, it’s a white icon on top of the white time stamp …

I rarely think to use the take a picture function. I almost always load an event full screen and then hit power+Vol-down to take screenshots. The take a picture option would be a lot cleaner way to do things though.

You are not ruffling any feathers, at least not mine. My point was that Wyze team has left the UI design to programers, and we all know what happens when programers are in charge of design

See above :point_up_2:

I initially read “Döner” as “Donner” (as in “Donner Party”, where the menu would be dwindling/tapering over time). The “examples” you cited remind me that I recently learned Android has a component called a snackbar.

Yup. Working on getting that fixed now.

I didn’t know this long thread was already talking about the humm dinger issue. I thought this was just a new product thread.

The faint ding, the ghostly dinger thing happened to me yesterday when it was stormy outside. It was weird. Sudden and I thought I may have brushed up against the button. Which could be a little more clicky, or stout, in my opinion. It seems too delicate to be a 'used and abused 'doorbell button. :man_shrugging:t4:

That is almost identical to how mine looks! Very simple and clean.

I asked awhile back if these important ‘hidden’ buttons could be moved to the prominent menu for the Floodlight Cam Pro, for example. The floodlight activation button is hidden instead of being easily accessible when you need to kick on the lights real quick. A little annoying when you hear something in the backyard but struggle to get the lights turned on in time. I see they hid more buttons on the DCD.

Is the consensus when using the door chime controller wired to a mechanical chime that the mechanical chime setting works the best for a clean ding-dong sound, or do some find the digital setting works better?

I saw that!

Yeah, I like keepin’ it neat.

I’d start with the Mechanical setting since that’s what you have, but you can play some more with Digital and see what works, particularly since you mentioned the rapidity of the ding-dong! sound in another topic and wanting a little more time between the ding and the dong. Since Wyze actually advises trying a Digital setting on a mechanical chime in one of the Help Center troubleshooting articles, I think in the end it’s going to be a matter of settling on what produces the most pleasing result for you.

what doorbell add on will stop phantom chime??

The dbv2 chime controller that’s hanging off the left side of the chime box photo that @Crease posted. $13.99 in the Wyze Shop on the app. Although dbv2 item, it was found to be a solution for the new doorbell duo issue.

I added automations to turn floodlights on/off. These show up as buttons on the “Favorites” tab.
