Introducing Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell - Released 10/21/2024

I have to say, I am very disappointed. I am upgrading from Doorbell v2–> Duo Cam Doorbell. After installation…I found that in the software, there is no option for “My built-in house chime”…I only have the other two options, WiFi Chime or Camera as chime… :frowning:

For those that ask, yes, I still have the Chime Controller from my Doorbell v2 installed. :frowning:

Now I am very displeased that I bought this as an upgrade, with a larger footprint, and if I chose to return it and use my Doorbell v2…I have a hole drilled into my aluminum siding since the footprint is larger…

Please fix this. I am also a part of the beta program and still no option for “built-in chime”

My doorbells were delivered this morning. Turns out the 8 - 14 business days economy shipping was only 5 business days including the day of ordering. I think I will wait before installing for some of the issues that are surfacing are resolved.

I’m a bit confused here. A triggering motion can come from only the zones specified, or anywhere in the camera frame? I mean, what is the point of setting this “detection zone” if it’s going to keep ignoring the parameters set. I had to shut off the vehicle detection because it was just getting annoying.

Also, chime is STILL going off for no apparent reason. It’s like it’s detecting a person every time the wind blows or something.

This is what I see in my setting options. For the Duo doorbell.

Have you tried updating firmware and phone app? Maybe you have a bad piece of gear. I’d recommend contacting wyze support.

The way a detection zone works is that it ignores the boxes you have blocked out for Motion Events (sometimes a motion event bleeds out over the corner of your boxes though).

For AI to work, every motion has to be analyzed and then check that frame at that time for a recognized object (person, pet, package, vehicle). If a tree branch blows and creates a motion event, the frame is checked and if you have a package on the front porch, it will tell you that you have a package. It will continue to do this each time the branch blows. ANY motion in your Detection Zone makes AI look again and again. IT SHOULD NOT look in the blacked out boxes for Motion Events.

So the trick is to use Sensitivity + the Detection Zones to eliminate all the motions that occur outside (branches, leaves, cars, etc.). Excessive motion events means you won’t get reliable notifications. If your doorbell is on a busy street, turn off cars.

This doorbell is struggling a bit with the Detection Zones and Sensitivity. They don’t seem to be working correctly.

The triggering motion can only come from the “detection zone”. Like I stated, it should be called “trigger zone” instead.

After a trigger, the whole frame is analyzed for objects. If you don’t like it, I think there’s a thread asking for detection change to the “zone” only.

drum_buster37, you are using iOS.

The people with the option for “My built-in house chime” missing, are on Android.

My app is fully updated and I am a beta user.

Well this has to get fixed immediately. Another issue resulting from Wyze lack of regression testing. My doorbells were delivered this morning and have not been opened. I am on Android and I am going to contact support for a return authorization. Having these unopened on a shelf is counterproductive for my intended upgrade and use.

Forum Mavens, any encourging comments?

I haven’t seen anything official about this specific issue, but based on what I’ve seen in the Forum it does appear to be an Android thing.

I still have unanswered questions in another topic and am hoping the original poster in that one will provide more details at some point, though @bigbad614 has commented in that topic, as well, and the available information at this point does seem to indicate an Android-specific issue, at least according to what I’ve read here so far.

Please let me know if you need more detail.

I also plan on borrowing a friend’s iPad, to see if I can configure “My built-in chime” option.

I also wonder once it is configured, if the option will appear in Android.

@Crease

Confirmed.

I was able to set “My built-in chime” via iOS…

Also confirmed… The option still does not exist in Android, after being enabled via iOS.

Oh… sorry, I did misunderstand. That’s the Wyze Doorbell Pro… both cameras are next to each other.

Mixed messages. Is the “Home built-in chime” option active in android for the vdb duo or not. I don’t want to open mine if there is a chance I am going to return them. Thank you.

Not via Android right now… If you have iPad or iPhone, you can use that device to set it up.

Oh wow, I could’ve sworn my Android app used to show that as an option, and I went to verify and now all of a sudden it’s been removed/missing. I wonder why they removed the Mechanical chime option from the Android App

It was when I was using my Doorbell V2… What I am not sure if, is if it disappeared during an app update or it is still available when using the Doorbell V2.

Maybe I will power up my Doorbell V2 and check if the option is there for it.

The VDBv2 still has it. I have one on my garage that is using it, and I checked and see it’s still there.

But when I first got this DuoCDB I saw it for this device as well when I set it up, and now it’s suddenly gone.

Might be because the Duo is battery powered? The wires are supposedly just charging the batteries.

No, people confirmed it works with the Mechanical Doorbell already. Plus it’s still an option on iOS. Plus this article indicates it is supported:

Though it tells people to get the chime controller unit from the VDBv2…but people have reported getting it to work without that.

Hey my android app is also missing the option for the mechanical chime. Fully updated on the beta app, updated camera firmware and nothing. I’ve got the chime controller installed on my chime but not working and I think it’s because the option is missing from the app.
