Introducing Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell - Released 10/21/2024

If you have access to an iOS device, you can get it working for now.

I just learned from a new Forum member in another topic that the Chime Controller actually is available as a separate purchase in the app. I didn’t know that was possible, and I’m puzzled by the apparent lack of availability when shopping through the Web site. Thanks for the tip, @keanon! :+1:

Actually, I forgot to say the same thing.

It is like $13…

Yeah, I saw that. I also saw that I can share a link to myself from the product page in the app, but if I try opening that link in a browser, I get a 404 error. I’m trying to get some information from someone at Wyze about the situation and will report back if/when I learn more.

Seems that is only possible to purchase via the Wyze app.

This has to be a very recent addition in the shop, it was not there a few days ago along with several other items I now see. Gearing up for the holiday shopping season?

It was definitely there on Monday or Tuesday.

@bigbad614 - Thanks. That solves the issue of passing my vdb v2’s to my son and keeping my controllers in place when and/or if I ever install the duos. Need the Android issue for missing mechanical chime resolved. No access to ios euipment. 50 / 50 on keeping or returning.

I would, but we don’t have a single apple device in the house. Really need the android app to work properly.

My buddy has a MacBook from a few years ago but the wyze app only works on the newer ones.

I have an iOS device and do not see the mechanical chime setting for the Duo doorbell.

On top of that, the mechanical doorbell randomly will ding on motion/sensing. #terrible

Update. The latest Beta application must have broken the mechanical doorbell option.

I have downgraded to 3.2.1 and the option reappeared.

Yes, I did the same. Additionally is your Duo charging. Mine quit charging even though I have power ( the correct power ) at the camera terminals. But the reality is, most of their releases are - well - starts with S and ends with show.

Wyze Support:

What is the status of resolving the issue with the software missing the option for ā€œexistingā€ chime?

This applies to Android, and apparently now iOS…

According to a Wyze Team member, this will be resolved in the next app release, potentially this week:

After some experimenting as to why mine is no longer charges ( three days after install ) I have reset multiple times and tried setup with various options and turned off / on different attributes to see if it will charge. Nada. I moved my WDB pro back to the front door and it charges just fine ( as it did before I swapped it for a WDB -duo). In reinstalling the Duo cam, I notice it briefly has a high amp draw and is charging for a few seconds then the charging circuit drops out but the rest of the camera works ( except continuously record to SD card as it says ā€œrecording to SD not supported in battery modeā€ I’ve been on with support but the ā€œduo cam expertā€ wasn’t available. Support said ro ā€œuse a different cableā€ a few times so we had to get over the mental hump of it’s hard wired but getting over that brain lock didn’t net any useful info. I’ll have to pull the camera off and USB charge the battery tomorrow and if I don’t hear from support ( promised the duo cam expert would email ) I’ll be back on the line with them tomorrow and either await a firmware fix or a new cam.

How does the Wyze Chime Controller work? I see in the picture it has 3 wires. Where does it get installed? I have 2 Wyze Duo Cam Doorbells (1 on side door & 1 on front door) do I need 2 controllers?

Is there a pdf manual I can see before ordering?

Thanks!

You install it in the chime box, where your home’s built-in chime is located.

That’s probably what Wyze would officially recommend if you want the doorbells to ring, say, a built-in mechanical chime with three terminals (probably FRONT, TRANS, and REAR); however, reports in the Forum indicate community members installing their Video Doorbell v2s and Duo Cam Doorbells without the Chime Controllers and still having success with their chime ringing.

:man_shrugging:

That’s still kind of a mystery to me, since the doorbells seem to activate mechanical chimes without Chime Controllers installed. One answer is that the Chime Controller is supposed to provide some surge protection.

The only PDFs I’ve ever seen from Wyze are digital copies of the Quick Start Guides that you get with the product. Since you already have two of the doorbells, you should have paper copies of these. I’m unaware of actual manuals for any Wyze products, though that has been a frequent request on the Forum. I would check the Help Center, specifically these articles:

Although that second article describes the alternate wiring scheme for the Chime Controller (which you likely wouldn’t use unless the primary/standard wiring scheme failed), there is an illustration in that article that shows two Chime Controllers connected to the same chime, so that might be a useful reference; however, in your case, I’d probably try the standard scheme first.

Assuming you have a mechanical chime with the three terminals I mentioned above, I'd do this (click/tap to expand):
  1. Remove the wire from the FRONT terminal and connect it to your first Chime Controller’s black wire with a wire nut.
  2. Connect that Chime Controller’s white wire to the chime’s FRONT terminal.
  3. Remove the wire from the REAR terminal and connect it to your second Chime Controller’s black wire with a wire nut.
  4. Connect that (second) Chime Controller’s white wire to the chime’s REAR terminal.
  5. Connect BOTH Chime Controllers’ red wires to the TRANS terminal, leaving the existing TRANS wire in place (so you’ll have 3 wires connected to the TRANS terminal at the end).

I hope this helps!

Anyone else have poor battery life? I went from full to zero in under 2 weeks.

Also when I opened the case there was a little water near the reset button and wiring terminals. this might be a problem if I had it connected to power.

Anyone else experiencing water near the top of the camera, expecially near the terminals?

At 2 weeks I was at about 50%. And that’s with a fairly active front door/front of the house.

I installed both controllers that came with the vdb.v2’s I have for front and back. I am leaving those in place for the db duos I have yet to install. Waiting for the 3.2.5 update, which was released yesterday but not yet in the Play Store, to fix missing mechanical chime option in Android. I believe there is a YouTube video for controller installation for the vdb v2 that should work for the duo. My transformer is 24/40 and with the battery in place for the duo, should activate, I hope, my mechanical chimes.
