I have it currently on event recording only. Is this to mean if it is on continuous recording there is no cool down?
So, I don’t have the chime controller installed that is sold with the Wired Video Doorbell V2. This is reportedly required for Duo Cam Doorbell to trigger mechanical doorbell. However, after selecting mechanical doorbell in the app settings, my mechanical doorbell rings upon press of Duo Cam Button.
Anyone else experiencing this? Can someone explain how or why this is happening? I’m not mad about it, unless i’m at risk of frying something.
Yes. The cooldown is only for notifications and cloud events in the events tab.
Continuous recording and event recording to the SD card are totally independent from any cooldown and will still record even when a notification/cloud-event-tab cooldown is in effect.
So, you may not get a notification about all the recorded events, but they will still be there in the SD card.
If you do continuous recording then everything will be recorded 24/7. If you do event recording only while it is wired, then should record as long as it detects motion (but this will not have a cool down affecting what is recorded or not).
If it is on battery, then it will have a cooldown for events too, but usually you can change the cooldown to as low as like 1minute.
I like @carverofchoice’s explanation, and that’s what I do: All of my Wyze cameras have microSD cards set to continuous recording. Even though I might miss notifications if a couple of motion events happen within five minutes of one another, I still have that unbroken timeline of recording in case I need to review something (until it ages out and gets overwritten by newer recordings).
I appreciate your reporting this, because it’s what I suspected might be possible, and I wondered if/when someone would try it and share the results here.
I haven’t yet seen other reports of this with Duo Cam Doorbell, but you can certainly find reports in the Forum of other community members resorting to wiring their Video Doorbell v2s without the Chime Controller as a last resort (after reportedly trying multiple other wiring configurations) and experiencing no ill effect. While I haven’t seen this configuration officially supported by Wyze, apparently it does work for people, and that makes sense, because in the end you’re still physically closing a switch and completing a circuit by pressing a doorbell button, just as you would with a “dumb” doorbell button; however, Wyze’s guidance (at least where the Video Doorbell v2 is concerned) is to use the Chime Controller for surge protection even if your home’s mechanical chime doesn’t work.
In the absence of an actual Chime Controller, I imagine you could get similar protection for your Duo Cam Doorbell by wiring a fuse into the circuit, putting it between the wire coming from your doorbell and the FRONT terminal (on a typical mechanical chime), though I’m not sure what would be the recommended rating or specifications for something like that. I’m just thinking out loud.
Since Duo Cam Doorbell requires a battery for operation, then I wonder if there’s something involved in the circuitry there that’s already isolating the new doorbell from a potential power surge to some extent, and maybe it’s actually “safer” to operate the Duo Cam Doorbell (compared to Video Doorbell v2) without the Chime Controller. I really don’t know and am just speculating at this point.
In any case, it’s cool to see that someone has confirmed it works without the Chime Controller! I imagine you won’t be the last Wyze user to try this.
Got the Duo Cam Yesterday. Good Doorbell. Like the simultaneous ringing of the chime and cameras all at once. Lower camera is good. Nice night vision.
I am getting a weird behavior with notifications. I have “Smart Detections” setup for People, Packages, Pets. Which works… but every now and again, I get an accompanying alert for “Complete Motion” detected that comes along with a person being detected (as an example). It doesn’t always happen.
I “Reset Services” on the Doorbell and then rebooted it. Still does it occassionaly. Just curious if others have seen it?
I have been getting vehicle notifications, even though the detection zone is set to exclude anywhere that a vehicle may be. Is there a bug in the detection zone setting?
I got a package today (I can see it now!!!) but the doorbell is going off every five minutes to tell me about the package. Tried resetting services, turning detections / notifications off, then back on… still going nuts.
It’s raining today so it’s probably that. Going to turn on the motion tagging to see what it’s seeing.
I ordered the Duo on the first day. It missed the scheduled delivery date by a day. After that, Wyze has been emailing, about 4 times now on succeeding days to expect delivery.
The one thing I’m unsure of is your description of the issue as intermittent, so I don’t know if this provides the solution or not, but it seems like a reasonable thing to check.
I did this. I will report back if anything else is off. My last issue is the Chime won’t update the firmware to 1.0.0.39 from 1.0.0.37. Keeps failing. Factory Reset and deleted in App. Still no good.
I ordered the Doorbell Duo this past Thursday the 24th of Oct. I received a shipping notice Friday evening with a tracking number. When tracking with USPS it states “Shipping Label Created” and still not pickup or followup scan of the package. It’s been like that since this past Friday. Has anyone else had a delay in shipping or experienced something similar? I contacted Wyze and they said it was in a shipping queue and should update yesterday or today but still nothing. Just wanted to see if anyone else had any issues. Thanks!
Same here. The “free economy” shipping is 8-14 business days.which I didn’t pay attention to when I ordered. It’s frustrating as Wyze has previously used Amazon as their distribution and previously I’ve gotten orders in 2 days. It says shipping label created Carteret NJ but as stuff gets shuffled to different shipping partners these days, that doesn’t mean much as to where it actually enters the USPS system. I’ve had stuff go from shipping label to “at regional sort” and delivered the next day. I wouldn’t hold my breath and expect slow boat delivery this time though tbh.
They likely generated and printed all the labels days before shipping them, probably to make the shipping process faster/easier for them when the supply arrived in their warehouses instead of printing order labels on demand. Mine sat in label created for several days before it was ever picked up.
Well a week and a day and still no movement. Every other order I’ve had from Wyze has gone out a day or two after the shipment notification. Disappointed in the shipping on this one. Maybe I’ll eventually get an update that it’s been picked up. Will keep waiting and watching. Thanks.
Those items were in the Amazon distribution system, Which is what Wyze normally uses, they warehouse and ship via Amazon, just like many other companies do. Amazon handles all the logistics. I’ve ordered from Wyze and Wyze on Amazon and typically it’s next or day after. It seems the “free” shipping option of the Wyze Week items went to the bottom of the food chain shipping partner. Mine says economy 8-14 business day shipping. They did charge the $1.90 “shipping insurance.
