Introducing Wyze Battery Cam Pro - 8/1/2023

Make sure the Camera Status light in the Advanced Settings is turned on.

You’ll see a more useful indicator on the Home Page, or the Group view page showing a more accurate percentage. It will also send you a push notification when it get low.

I saw that in the Quick Start Guide, but as I said there is no charging light coming on while the battery is in the camera and plugged in to charge. I only see lights showing a charge on the battery itself, if I take it out and plug it in.

So I reinstalled the battery into the camera and plugged it in. Now it blinked green a few times and then the light went out. I still don’t think it’s charging the battery while it’s in the camera. Anyone else seeing this on their camera?

It charges mine. Give it a few hours. Wyze has set these up to charge slowly…it is supposed to take like 9 hours to fully charge, so you won’t see a quick difference.

From the AMA:

What would you say is the main benefit of using the Battery charging dock over just plugging a USB-C cord into the battery instead?

As the charging time using the charging dock and plugging in a USB-C cord is roughly the same at 9 hours, the main benefit is to charge two at a time. If you have only one extra battery, you don’t have to get a charging dock. -u/Bitter-Painter-3661

9 hours seems like a significant charging time. Why was Rapid Power Delivery not incorporated? Why is recharging so slow?

The battery uses slow charge to protect the health of the battery though it has the ability to be rapid charged with a rapid charge dock. This is something we’re still considering. -u/Bitter-Painter-3661

But I should see the light on the camera showing it charging, right? I also noticed I won’t see the charging lights while in the camera using the solar panel either. But the solar panel does charge the battery when it’s plugged directly into the battery. Just read another thread where others are having this same issue. I’m watching the charger % on the app Home Screen and if it is charging but very slowly, it should still get the charging indicator light on the camera and it’s not.

UPDATE: It does appear to be slowly charging as you said, yet still no lights on the camera indicating it’s charging. Are you seeing the charging lights on your camera?

Why do we have one more step to get to the live view? On all my other camera’s when I tap on them on the Home page they open right up with live view and the speaker is on. But with the Cam Pro tapping it on the Home page I have to tap again to start the livestream and the speaker is muted, so I have to tap that as well. So you end up doing two taps to get to the same thing all my other cameras do with one tap. What’s the logic to this?

Power Saving Mode toggle has a bug:

I had Power Saving Mode toggled on, so I unchecked it and Live View came right up after picking the camera from the Home page. So that seems to be functional now, this is with camera firmware 1.3.16.1420. But the muted mic thing is still there.

Yep, it’s working when not grouped, not working when grouped.

If the cam is not in a group, you can go straight to screen play. But in the group it has an issue they’re working on.
As for the charging on the camera. Mine does the same thing. Plugged into the outlet it comes on green on the front of the camera and then turns off. When my batteries are in the camera. They don’t show anything until I move it. Connected to the solar panels they don’t show as charging anywhere but they do keep the percentage up so I know they are working.

It would have been nice if Wzye explained this in the instructions, instead of leaving us thinking our camera is defective. I’m sure some contacted Wyze for a replacement, thinking it wasn’t charging and of course customer support isn’t knowledgeable enough to know that it was.

Now all of a sudden my camera battery indicator light is continuously blinking green when in Live View. Is that normal?

Is the lens exposed like on the V3 or is there a clear cover over it?
I have had so many V3’s fail due to water getting in the lens I wouldn’t spend the extra money on this product unless the issue had been rectified. I have other brands of cameras that have a plastic cover protecting the lens, these have an IP66 rating and have survived with no issues.

Is there an ETA for continuous recording on SD Card? I didn’t realize it was available yet. Just got my new Battery CAM Pro with Samsung Pro Endurance 256gb SD card. Spent a lot of time looking through settings to turn on recording.

I’m noticing that it takes way longer to get a live view with the Battery Cam Pro than all V2 and V3 cameras. Don’t understand why this would happen but hope Wyze is aware of it and working on it. Even YouTubers reviewing this camera commented on it. How is it that Wyze didn’t catch this during their testing?

It will always take longer for the Battery Cam Pro to get a live view than the wired v2 and v3. It is due to many things shutting down to conserve battery. They take a few seconds longer than the Wyze Cam Outddor and Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 also because Battery Cam Pro does not rely on a base station.

And yet my older Reolink Argus battery cameras get to live view way faster than this latest battery camera from Wyze. And the Argus doesn’t have a base station.

From what I am reading on the Reolink Argus battery cameras, it looks like Reolink has decided to sacrifice battery life for speed, so for example, the Argus 2E battery only lasts up to 8 weeks in standby mode (even with a 5200mAh battery), or the Argus 3Pro battery can only go up to 4 weeks with normal usage (even though it has a 6000mAh battery). By comparison, Wyze has a 6200mAh that can go up to 6 months with normal use of 10-20 event videos a day.

So it sounds like Reolink keeps the camera mostly online, draining the battery much faster so they can have faster response time, while Wyze’s batteries can last much longer in certain use cases as they were aiming for. I can see a benefit for both ways. If I’m using a solar panel, then I’d prefer to have quicker response time because the sun will recharge the battery before it drains anyway. But if I’m not using a solar panel and have a very low traffic area, then I’d prefer the battery to last longer so I don’t have to swap it out as often.

It would be great if they could set it up to allow us to choose if we want deep standby state to be on, off or automatic so that users could select their personal preferences. Someone could add that to the wishlist and see how popular the demand is for it.

I have the original Argus when they sold the crowd funding. But as you know battery life is never what anyone publishes, so I always use a one month time table before charging them back up. And the battery life icons are not accurate, you really have to put the batteries in a charger to see where they are at.

And I could just connect a solar panel to my Argus just like with the Wyze Battery Cam Pro. My Argus cameras do go into sleep mode and not mostly not on, could be they changed that with the later versions. All I know is that a 7 second start up time is forever when someone is breaking into your back door. This time really does need to be shortened.

I agree. It would be nice if there was an option for faster response faster battery draining when the camera is connected to a power source including a solar panel.

Is there an ETA for continuous recording on SD Card? I didn’t realize it was available yet. Just got my new Battery CAM Pro with Samsung Pro Endurance 256gb SD card. Spent a lot of time looking through settings to turn on recording.

I asked about this in the AMA for this device. The Product Manager replied:

…we’ll support microSD card playback (continuous/event-only) in September or October software updates. Please note that this timeline may be pushed if we need to adjust some more code before release.
