Exactly the same setup I use, plus 2 Wyze light bulbs that turn on when the camera detects motion! However since I have issues with the Nexx unit I would love to see one that works better and gets rid of another app on my phone!

A garage door opener really only needs a relay so it could literally just be a wyze plug but with the relay exposed instead of passing through live wall voltage

I would like to see a simple garage door controller. Much like the door lock, it could use gps to open garage on approach.

Is there a rule to have your bulbs turn off after a certain number of minutes after they come on due to motion detected?

This is a post about asking wyze for a garage door opener

Is there a rule to have your bulbs turn off after a certain number of minutes after they come on due to motion detected?

While you are waiting on Wyze to develop your idea into a product my I suggest what I did.

  1. Picked up a Sonoff Basic for $7.00 and followed this Youtube hack to convert it into a GDO.
Turn Sonoff Basic to garage door opener with eWeLink - YouTube There’s a bunch of these videos on the Sonoff Basic GDO, so just go search.
This also allows me to use the app, Alexa and/or Google Asst to open the door.

  2. I am currently replacing the Basic with the R2 version of the same because it supports RF433 so, I can also use a button or remote to open and close. I can mount that button or more than one in many places.

  3. And added two Wyze V2 cameras in my garage with the car and door in sight of the camera. Now I can see the status of the door and time.

  4. Was using a Samsung sensor, not using a Yolink garage sensor to trigger an Alexa routine and send the Wyze camera’s view to an Alexa show 8 in the living room.

Most GDO’s or even the current version of Homelink simply send a ~1-2 second signal to the GDO receiver. If its closed it opens. If its open, it closes. Unless you add an accessory such as a pair of magnets that some GDO’s support or more complex devices like MyQ, there’s no sensor to relay to you the door’s status. I used the Nexx GDO for a while and it often reported false positive. I thought the door was closed when it was open - and it used the switch/magnet method.

Simply putting one or two Wyze cameras in your garage facing the big door is a sure fire method to get an accurate status. I say two because it nice to repurpose some of those V2 so you have deeper security in case one goes offline.

Sam,
Thanks for the tips. When this all started, I punted quickly. For $26, I bought a

Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener Wireless Garage Door Remote, Open and Close Garage Door from Anywhere, Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant

It works great, also compatible with Smart Life and Siri. That’s when I said to myself, Wyze could do this and it would be a perfect compliment to their other home security product line.

Thanks again for your input,

  1. Wireless Garage door opener!

Tons of people don’t have garage door clickers in their vehicles or a keypad! Now with the use of the Wyze front door lock. Sometimes I find myself wishing to re-enter the home through the garage. I would love to be able to open the garage with my phone or to add and external keypad with garage control! Even an auto open feature to open my garage when I pull up in my vehicle would be extremely convenient!

I would like to suggest that you sell a garage door sensor that can tell me if the door is open or closed . . .
AND a device that will allow me to open or close my garage doors.
.
Your current door sensors work . . . but not perfectly . . . and I want to be able to open or close my doors !!

There are existing mechanisms that meet your requirements, e.g. Chamberlain’s newer garage door opener that works with MyQ app.

My situation is to have a door pad that I can remotely change the code to open/close the garage door, just like the Wyze door lock’s pad. I’m running a short-term rental and I would like to change code remotely.

The Chamberlain isn’t compatible with older garage openers, since you can’t connect it via wires. This is why I prefer solutions like the Meross.

I use the chamberlain myQ. I would just prefer to do all through one app… is there a way for Wyze to become compatible with MyQ? A lot of other companies have cross compatibility with MyQ

Answer to your question is no, you are not going to see Wyze app pull in your MyQ GDO. But if you have an Alexa device, you will find you can blend many capabitities into Alexa Routines and execute them with sensors as triggers or even voice commands. You can have replies from Alexa to give you a status as the commands occur. For instance, I have a sensor on my garage door, it triggers an Alexa routine to turn on a smart wifi switch for garage lights, turns on Wyze bulbs on my porch, then after 90 seconds turns the garage lights off and “she” tells me she’s closing the garage door and turning off the garage lights, (even though I can see the lights are out).

I want a device that works with my Alexa. Chamberlain is being stingy and you can only work with IFTTT and that ONLY closes your garage door.

This is what I use. Turn Sonoff Basic to garage door opener with eWeLink - YouTube

Triggered with voice commands and Alexa routines, and an app from anywhere.
I added a couple of Wyze cams in my garage and I can see when the door is open or closed anytime. Beats relying on an announcement or alert in an app too.

I would love to see you guys come out with a garage door opener like the MyQ for Chamberlain. MyQ does not work with Alexa and if Chamberlain has it’s way it won’t for quite awhile.
