I’ve got several Wyze cameras. The notifications are absolutely ridiculous! In a minute I can get a dozen plus from the same camera! Why is there not a cooldown period setting for notifications? I understand that for cloud recording they stop after there’s no motion but why can’t there be a setting to not have notifications for 1 min, 3 mins whatever after a triggered event. Do I need to know when the mailman got there and when he left 20 seconds later? Probably not, one notification is probably enough!
First world problem.
I’m joking. Welcome to the forum.
It’s gotten so bad for me that I have turned off the Notifications on my phone for them. Most of the time they are recording things they aren’t supposed to anyway.
What steps have you attempted to reduce notifications? I agree that there’s a lot of extraneous noise, especially when using the cameras without subscriptions. Sometimes reducing sensitivity and/or setting appropriate Detection Zones can be helpful.
My understanding is that the new NBD Filter is supposed to eliminate a lot of this notification overload, but that requires a premium subscription.
There are also some existing Wishlist items that might be relevant:
You can visit those topics, hit the Vote button above the initial posts, and share your ideas and use cases in the comments to show your support.
Wyze also introduced a “Snooze notification for” action in a fairly recent update, and it looks like the lower limit for that one is 10 minutes, so you could potentially create a Device & Service Trigger Automation, something like this:
- IF
- Mailbox Camera
- Detects motion
- Mailbox Camera
- DO
- Mailbox Camera
- Snooze notification for 10 minutes
- Mailbox Camera
Something like that might be worth trying. I think you have a lot of options for reducing your frustration—and I totally understand the frustration—though it may involve some time and tinkering on your part. Let us know what works!
Welcome to the Forum, @mbogart77!
Man, that’s a kick ass response. @mbogart77 owes you a for that one.
Dunno about that, but thanks! I’m just tryin’ to help, yo.
Maybe later, though. ’ll do ’er for now.
That’s a $20 response, minimum. Someone told me that’s what cocktails cost now, yo.
Actually, there is more notifications with subscription than without as there is no 5 minute cooldown between events.
I understand what you’re saying, and I think it depends on what settings are selected. With a subscription, someone could eliminate the generic motion detections and select only Person or Pet, for instance. That could actually reduce a lot of noise.
Not necessary, I have my cameras set for person only and I get barraged by notifications if I only stand in view of the camera.
