Constant Notifications from Active Area Wyze Cam V4

I have a new Wyze Cam V4 set up in my garage. When one of us are in the garage the camera continuously sends notifications about once every 10 seconds and I can’t find a way to reduce the frequency of these. I don’t want to turn the notifications off because I want to know if there is activity that isn’t us. Is there some way to reduce the frequency of notifications? I can’t find a setting for this (FYI, I’m subscribed to Cam Unlimited).

What have you attempted so far? I’m thinking here of things like adjusting Motion Detection Sensitivity for the camera and hitting the on the upper-right corner of the app’s Home screen to temporarily disable notifications for the times you expect activity in the garage (this allows you to set a custom “off” period for notifications, and then they’ll turn on again when that time is up). One potential problem with using the bell is that it’s a global on/off setting, so it’ll affect all your cameras if you have more than the one Cam v4. You could also create Shortcut Automations to enable/disable the notifications for that camera and set these as Favorites for easy access, but then you have to remember to turn the notifications back on again at some point (or create a Schedule Automation to do that for you).

Then there’s the new NBD Filter, but that might be overkill for what you’re attempting to do with a single camera.

I bet his issue is about the parked cars being flagged all the time. That’s a common complaint here.

I’m aware of the common complaint about parked car “Vehicle Detected” notifications, but @MikeM indicated a desire to reduce notification frequency when people are known/expected to be in the garage, so I think that’s a separate issue.

I don’t think there’s anything to be done here shortly from disabling notifications. It’s the nature of Cam Plus. It’s such a closed quarters that nothing will help. I get that on all my cameras and I’ve tried everything. If you set the sensitivity to low you miss important events. Learn to live with it.

Oh, I get that. That’s why I think the easiest solution (even though it’s a global notifications setting) is probably hitting the bell to essentially “mute” or “snooze” the notifications when they get to be too much, though reportedly the new NBD thing is pretty impressive…for a price.

Also, for Android users, it’s possible to set up third-party notification interceptors, so using something like that at will for a single camera would be another potential option here.

What I’ve done is created shortcut rules to mute notifications on certain cameras, for example when I do yard work or just having a beer on the deck. As I said, you learn to live with shortcomings of Cam Plus.

Thanks for all the informative responses. I was hoping there was some way to add a cool-down period to this camera so the notifications don’t keep coming one after another but apparently this goes away with Can Unlimited. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

Yeah, that was something else I suggested above, though my problem with that solution is that it’s likely my brain will move on to other thoughts and not remember to re-enable the notifications when I should later. I like the bell thing because with that notifications will turn on again after a user-selected time, but a potential downside there is that it affects all Wyze notifications, so maybe someday they’ll get around to implementing this Wishlist request:

Since we already have a global feature for that, I interpret this request as a way to disable notifications (using an Automation) on a single camera or group of selected cameras, potentially, which would be cool because then you could do it with a single Shortcut with no need to manually enable notifications again at a later time.

You can group cameras and create automation shortcut for the group, that’s what I’ve done and it’s been working for me.

There is a new "Snooze Notification for… " Automation Rule.

If you use contact sensors, you could make it “Snooze Notification for 10 minutes” when Garage Entry is opened.

I am doing a similar thing that if my Front Door Unlocks, I turn off all notifications on the front of my house off for short time.

When the lock is locked, they get turned back on.

A few ways to do it, none of them perfect… but you can certainly curb 97% of the onslaught of notifications with a little bit of tweaking.

I guess “new” = “buggy”? When I first tick the box for that Action, “Snooze notification for” changes to “Snooze notification for 5 minutes” and the control to select the time appears, but the lowest amount it shows is “10min”. I’m nuot sure why there’s an apparent mismatch, but it seems on par for Wyze.

It is a cool idea, though, and I hadn’t noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out! :+1:

I thought the same.

MikeM - I’m using a method that SlabSlayer suggested in Jan 2023. See his post below. It requires the use of a Wyze smart plug. If you have Alexa, you just tell Alexa to turn off the Wyze notifications for X number of minutes or until X time, and Alexa says OK. At the end of the time, Alexa turns the notifications back on automatically.

I use this all the time. Sometimes I just need the garage camera muted and sometimes I’m working in the yard and I need all the cameras muted. I mute all camera notifications with the rule. Otherwise, I would need a separate smart plug for each camera. I put the smart plug next to my bed so I can see if the blue light is on (notifications not muted) when I go to bed.

Credit goes to SlabSlayer for this great idea. Here’s his post.

"Although the feature is not native to the Wyze App, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

I have a Wyze Plug installed that I named “Notifications”. I don’t have anything plugged into this plug. It is just sitting there plugged in waiting to act as a relay messenger to my Wyze app.

I programmed 2 Rules for this plug. When the plug turns off, Mute Notifications. When the plug turns on, Unmute Notifications.

Since I have my Wyze Skill enabled in my Alexa App and I have Dots in the house, all I have to do is to say “Alexa, turn off Notifications for 10 minutes”.

Alexa turns the plug off, gives me voice confirmation, the notifications go on mute, 10 minutes later she turns the Notifications Plug back on and the Push Notifications UnMute."

Is this still needed with a rule that allows the Snoozing of Notifications now?

Is there a Wyze voice command to snooze notifications?

Is there a Wyze Voice Command to do anything? If so, please share.

There is not a Wyze voice command to do anything I know of. That’s why this method MIGHT be useful to some folks.

The hidden trick is to use a smart plug.

Turn the plug on >>> Make Wyze Snooze notification for 5 minutes.
The plug has been on for 15 minutes??? >>>> Lock the front door.

The plug is turned off >>> Turn Cameras off
The plugs is off for 15 min >>> Turn cameras on.

or something like that.

Then use your voice to turn plug on or off.

Is it possible for you to move the v4 to a different part of your garage? You might be able to still monitor the important parts of your garage but aim the v4 so your family causes fewer Notifications.
