Events tab changed - doesn't save selected cameras

Using version (3.1.0 (564)) on Android. Latest update shows events from ALL my cameras instead of which ones I have selected. After the update, it doesn’t even remember which caneras I selected I want updates from.

Also, it no longer allows the “dark screen” match of my phone apparently.

welcome @suekingwi

Can you post a screen shot of your filter and the resulting page?

also the Dark mode setting is in App Settings and not the about page.

As you will see, I have no cameras selected for “events”. I previously selected the cameras I want to see events from and the selections are not saved.

Here you will see it’s giving me all events from ALL cameras

Previously as in before you updated the app? Or previously when you had the app open? Have you tried reselecting the filters?

Previously, meaning earlier today, which is after the app update, I had selected cameras for events and it did not save. I also did so last night, and those settings were not saved then, either which is why I selected them again

If it isn’t saving the ones you check off, try uninstall and reinstall of the app. You could try just clearing the cache within the app settings (and/or within android settings) first if you want too, that may be enough.

If it is saving them but not applying, I’ve found it does that sometimes if I go to the events tab too soon after opening the app, but not in any sort of consistent way. Refreshing the favorites page would fix it in those cases.

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say they’re working on Events tab features backstage

I did have to re-apply my filter after this recent update but it saved fine even after exiting the app. Though I’m just using a simple one to only show certain cams and I don’t have any subscriptions.

Yeah, these may or may not be related but I’ve/we’ve been here before and we’re not given a heads-up when they start dicking around with stuff backstage that begins to cause stuff like this onstage - even after it becomes ‘widespread’ and apparent. (I even ASKED for them to give us a heads-up in the future so we wouldn’t be troubleshooting ghosts.) I’m being precipitant I expect but I need to blow off some steam.

In the old app, sometimes it would say “failed to update device list” and that’s when I knew my filter would be temporarily gone until I refreshed the main page. The new app no longer gives that error but sometimes doesn’t filter until I go to the favorites page and refresh it (so obviously still has the same error but doesn’t display it). If that stops happening with this update I’ll be happy, but I suspect it still will from time to time.

I have lost not the ability but the will to do what you just did there - explain something like that calmly and clearly. If I don’t have the will I have a poor ability, it’s like dragging a mattress around.

What you said reminds me of the old IN-OUT-IN w/respect to settings

IN: Settings screen
OUT: Livestream Cam screen or Home tab
IN: Settings screen

to make sure the changes ‘took.’

Have you ever told a regular person they have to do this even if it seems unreasonable even ridiculous? The common reaction makes me laugh but I have a sense of the absurd.

If I was to write a primer it would be titled:

Five Unreasonable Things You Must Do If You Want This Stuff To Work

It would be one page long in big print.

If people were daunted by it they could go do something else and be happy.

Step 1 - Work for a massive global company for 18+ years
Step 2 - Make sure it is a publicly traded one (they have an uncanny knack for cost cutting to make the current quarter numbers at the expense of future quarters, at which point they cost cut even more in a vicious cycle).
Step 3 - Watch huge, critical multi-million dollar corporate clients experience major service issues
Step 4 - Drive yourself crazy trying to get them to acknowledge and fix the problems
Step 5 - Watch said problems fester and get kicked around for months while the customer gets more and more pissed, get aggravated and stressed out yourself at the lack of progress
Step 6 - Remember that AA saying about accepting the things you cannot change
Step 7 - Stop taking it personally, live a happier and healthier life.

If I do make a job change before I retire (would probably only be one more) it will be a medium sized, privately owned (not Venture Capital or Private Equity) company that actually gives a crap about more than the current quarter’s numbers. Not that they’re immune, but having worked for one in the past it is night and day.

But at least it has taught me to roll with the punches and accept the way of the world when it comes to this stuff.

From what I discovered whenever that message pops up it means the app can’t call home for whatever the reason. You are correct, the message doesn’t show up anymore but the issue is still there.

Interesting term.

I had to google that. Learned something new.

I’ll follow @peepeep’s good example and apologize in advance to @suekingwi for this off-topic comment:

Since he mentioned AA in his previous post, I’m a little disappointed that @dave27 didn’t stretch out his process to a full 12 steps.

Me, too. I’ll crawl back into my :hole: now.

Yeah that was my assumption too, and it was always paired with a second error that I don’t recall where it would not update the still pictures in the device list. It definitely still happens since the filter won’t be applied to the events when it does, and refreshing the “favorites” still fixes it. It just doesn’t tell you anymore. It is pretty rare in my case so not going to lose sleep over it.

I can’t even blame autocorrect as I was on the laptop. Apparently some malfunction in my couch-to-keyboard interface. But I managed to get a real word (though I can’t find even a vague way to pretend it was intentional and somehow applies).
