I’ve recently purchased an installed the Duo Cam. I want to be alerted via my Alexa devices when the doorbell is pressed. However, it’s not working.
Alexa is showing the device. Both Wyze and Alexa are set-up to do the alerts. I’ve done all of the usual advise in terms of removing and resetting up.. All of the firmware is up-to-date etc etc.
How do you have Duo Cam Doorbell configured in the Alexa app’s settings? With the Duo Cam Doorbell I’m currently using, I have Person Detection Announcements and Package Detection Announcements enabled, and that works reliably for me. I hear announcements on a couple of Echo devices, so I know that’s working. I see on that Settings screen in the Alexa app that there’s also a Doorbell Press Notifications that I have enabled, and I think that I hear a chime (I have “Default” selected under Doorbell Sound below that option) when the doorbell button is pressed, but I use other things for chimes and typically pay more attention to the person announcements instead, so I’d have to test this to be sure. Do you have Doorbell Press Notifications enabled? Also, do you have your Echos (or whatever Alexa devices you’re using) selected as Announcement Devices on this same Settings screen?
That looks right to me, especially the middle screenshot. I don’t know if the routine is necessary or would interfere. I might have to recruit someone to help with some testing on my end and try to confirm what’s working for me.
You’re welcome. I just tried both with and without the Alexa routine and heard the expected sounds from a nearby Echo. I even changed the Doorbell Sound setting to something else (temporarily set it to “Birds Chirping”) and heard that when I pressed the button.
Have you tried re-linking the Wyze skill in Alexa or toggling Doorbell Press Notifications off and back on to see if that has any effect?
What happens if you check the Activity for your Alexa “WyzeBell is pressed” Routine when it’s been enabled and you’ve pressed the button? Do you see any indication that Alexa is even detecting the button press? If you just select the Duo Cam Doorbell from your devices in the Alexa app, then are you able to see the device’s live view?
I’m trying to figure out if any information is getting from the device itself to Alexa. Do you have other Wyze devices, and, if so, then are they working with Alexa?
I’m scratching my head here and trying to come up with other ideas. I think @fmills1d uses both Duo Cam Doorbell (× 2) and Alexa, so maybe he has some ideas about what I’m missing.
Yes. I’m an Amazon Prime member.. although I haven’t opted in for Alexa+ (and I don’t believe I should need to for this… it worked fine when I had a Ring doorbell and a Nest doorbell). I have selected three devices, two Echo Dots and a 2nd Generation Echo… Thanks
Amazon did make changes and I am of the opinion that Alexa+ is now needed for some announcements. What generation are the echo dots? I have echo dots 5 that supports the changes and opted into Alexa+ which was free for prime member with an annual subscription. Was the 3rd device a 2nd generation echo show? It was cut off before the Thanks.
I get the announcements without the need for a routine, just activating doorbell press in settings for the doorbell in Alexa.
I just tested the doorbell and an announcement was made on my echo dot 5 for someone at the doorbell when I pressed the doorbell button. No routine setup necessary. This is in addition to the chime I selected to ring on the dot.
Do you get the person detection announcement for the doorbell with a chime on your echo dot?
Would the screenshots above indicate this? I don’t think the options shown would be available without an active subscription and Wyze account link to Alexa, or at least that’s how I interpreted the images.
It never hurts to ask for information and clarification. Doing that can maybe prevent some other headaches down the line. I think you’re asking the right questions. I’m just kind of stumped with what we know about this situation so far.
While I’m waiting to see if @adam10 answers the previous questions, I also wonder if all of the Echo devices in question have Announcements and Communications enabled (each individual Echo’s Device Settings ➜ Communications (Enabled ) ➜ Announcements ➜ Enabled ).[1] If so, then are announcements from other devices within the Alexa environment working as expected?
